Review from Eric K.
Oh Demitasse I think you've passed up Mo:le as my favorite brunch spot in Victoria. I've been here two times now, most recently this morning for brunch.
I just wanted something light so I got the energizing breakfast. Which is homemade Demitasse maple granola (loaded with dried fruits, nuts, and seeds), layered with plain yogurt and fruit compote.
I did enjoy the granola but felt there could have been a bit more yogurt on it. Just like my recent trip to Mo:le two days ago the fruit was definitely not in season but much better than what I had at Mo:le.
Strangely enough we haven't had any wait at Demitasse either time we have come here even though today was mother's day. Although I am sad I don't seem to like Mo:le as much lately I'm glad to see Demitasse taking its place.Listed in: Victoria May 2010

What should have been a great experience here was unfortunately ruined by terrible service. We came here after rejecting the line up at another place which we were told was "the most popular brunch spot in Victoria", because we were hungry, limited in time and had been given other recommendations (ie., this café).
My meal was great. I had an omelet with smoked salmon, brie cheese and onions which came served with a huge portion of fresh fruit. This was a bonus for me because usually omelets come served with bread, which I can't eat, or potatoes, which I don't particularly like, and I have to argue with the server or pay more for a substitute. Moreover if they do bring you "fruit" it is often not an overly big portion because it is expensive.
Unfortunately my friend did not have such a great experience, meal-wise. She ordered eggs benedict and asked to substitute cheddar for blue cheese on the top. It took three tries for the kitchen to get this seemingly simple request right, by which time we were very frustrated and the food was cold. When she was finally brought the correct meal, my friend did not enjoy the eggs nor the potatoes on the side at all. The server was nice but was not terribly proactive in solving the problem. The manager gave my friend a minor discount, but given the amount of time and number of tries it took to fix the mistake, it seemed that she should not have had to pay for a meal which she disliked so thoroughly.
Based solely on my meal, I would go back, although considering my friend's experience and the service, I would rather try one of the many other great brunch places in Victoria.Listed in: Best of Victoria

Okay so they are reaaallly nice here. Just the type of people you'd want greeting you and serving you food if you're hungover.
Plus they make a delicious veggie benny with tomato, feta and spinach. Simple, but splendid. And I do thoroughly enjoy their yummy, seemingly healthy whole wheat french toast topped with granola and maple syrup.
I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. The location is not quite in the thick of things downtown and from the outside they look more like a cafe than a killer breakfast spot. I walked by for years before realizing what I'd been missing out on. Definitely a top 5 breakfast spot in Victoria. -

Now, I've never been here before this and I was just visiting Victoria when this place was recommended to us by our host.
However, I wonder if our host had been here recently. It was obvious that there was a change in ownership of the place. The woman who seemed to be the owner didn't quite know what she was doing. I had some questions about switching out the bleu cheese in my benny for another kind and then asked for recommendations and she had no idea how to answer the question. Our actual server came by and she was like, "oh he can answer your questions" and left him to it. Our server was actually really cool. I think he was also frustrated from working there though, not that he said anything. But it was apparent...
The real problem came when I ordered the short ribs benny and it did come with blue cheese. So our server had them remake it. No problem there. And in the mean while he offered a free croissant or muffin since my friend's food had arrived (*oh so nice of them!*). However, the croissant was ultra stale, hard and costco-style. I would have rather received nothing... that was a little insulting. And then when they remade the benny, it had no cheese on it all... so again it went back and they sprinkled on some shredded cheddar (the kind you get in the bulk bags--the cheap stuff). So whatever, I tried to eat it.
The flavours of the short ribs and the truffled-hollandaise (in which they literally doused the whole dish--"where's my egg??") were way too strong to complement each other. I tried to at least finish the rib meat.... but this was no Cafe Medina cassoulet.
The owner, after the second send back, did apologize and offered me a discount, so i was somewhat content (thinking it would be around 20-50% off--) until she rang my bill up. The discount was only 10%. And after tip and HST, my breakfast bill came to $18.52. A bit much for a terrible breakfast. And while I appreciate the gesture, 10% is a little insulting--+/-$1.62 isn't going to make a huge difference to my experience there. -

I remember going to the Demitasse when I was in University. I loved the fluffy eggs with brie on a delightful croissant. This became my bellweather for the Demitasse and other breakfast joint. I have recently been back twice with the same results. The brie has bee subsituted with processed swiss, the eggs are heavy and over power the cheese and the side of home cut potatoes was bland. I was one of 3 tables and had to grab my own menu.
Redeeming quality was the pleasant manner of the server. I am not likley to go back again. -

This is a pretty cool coffee shop.
A good selection of sandwiches and people working there are friendly.
I like how they display their sandwiches. -

My friends and I were visiting Victoria and staying at the Ocean Island Hostel when we walked by Demitasse. It was closed at the time, but I knew instantly that it would be a great place for coffee and brunch. And it didn't disappoint! We didn't have the coffee (mimosas instead!), but the food was A-mazing. They have wonderful granola served with yogurt and jam, and great breakfast sandwiches (available in a croissant!). The service was great and the music even better.

Good atmosphere and service, not crowded and food came pretty quickly. I ordered the omelette special which probably would have been good except that it was way over-cooked and kind of rubbery. Tasty hashbrowns and coffee.

Not the same since James sold the place. I'll make the effort to go to the Broad street location for lunch.
