Review from Charlotte W.

This is my first flight with Delta Airlines and I had such an AMAZING experience (partly biased with the business class automatic upgrade, but it means my membership really works!)
Toronto to Ft. Lauderdale:
Delta for its Gold Medallion members means your own separate check-in counter which is the equivalent of a First/Business check-in counter. I had already checked in online anyways the night before so all I needed to was get my luggage tag. With most American-run airlines, you need to pay for each checked bag, however, with a Gold status, your first two luggages are free. When I had checked in online, I was notified I was 1st in line for an upgrade to business and would be notified when boarding the plane.
Well, no upgrade for me. Economy seats on a Delta flight to Ft. Lauderdale are quite small. Complimentary peanuts, cookies or pretzels are provided along with Coke products, juice, tea/coffee, and water. As w welcoming gift to the Gold status, I was provided 4 coupons for complimentary alcoholic beverages and sandwhiches which I happily used. Otherwise, wine is $7 (exorbitant!) and sandwhiches and little "meals" range from $7-$10.
Luggage came out first as Gold members get priority. All in all, a great flight, great service, and everything went smooth.
Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta to Toronto:
Check-in at Terminal 2
Delta is big in Ft. Lauderdale with many self-check in kiosks along with agent counters. There were separate self-check in kiosks for Gold Members and I was done in 2 minutes. There was an agent who helped me print my luggage tag and whisk it away. As a treat, when I checked in online the night before, I was already notified that I was upgraded to business from the Atlanta, GA to Toronto flight, but I would be on a waiting list for business on the Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta flight.
So, it just happens that as I was boarding the plane, I received a new ticket that said I was going business all the way. It was great. Individual tv screens, free flowing booze, and snacks. Service was great and I got to catch up on How I Met My Mother episodes. There was also Wi-Fi onboard the plane which I thought was so neat!
The automatic upgrades made my day. I didn't have to do any work and I already received an upgrade when checking in online the night before! I am not sure how the system works, but having the Gold status really works! They really do reward their own:
Skymiles Medallion Membership.
Delta has 4 levels: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. I can confidently say the Gold level is already so amazing: 2 free checked luggages (otherwise, the cost for one is $50 roundfare), automatic upgrade to Business, prioritiy checkin counter, and priority boarding (to get the coveted overhead bin space for your carry-on bags). There are so many other benefits and at this level, you are definitely getting your value. I am very happy with my Delta Gold Membership and plan on flying Delta to the States as often as I can.
I am part of the Aeroplan Membership for Air Canada and have NEVER been upgraded to business, whereas, I get the Gold Membership for the first time on Delta, and I am upgraded to Business during the Christmas season. Can't beat that!
