Review from Nyssa R.
I agree with Johnson's review, the service can be pretty hit or miss here. Some of the staff are really good and remember you, and some (especially if you have to deal with the Albert's staff) are really bad.
Let me explain the Albert's staff comment. It's one big area, but the kitchen both cooks Albert's Family Restaurant as well as dim sum. But they have different front of house staff, the same payment system, and I'm not sure if the kitchen staff is the same or different. Interesting set up. Again, it would definitely be classified as a hole in the wall, you go through two back doors (including one connected to the kitchen) to get into it.
The dim sum is great here though, and the prices are really good. Exceptional for Edmonton, really. On special I think all dishes are $3.00 per dish, and their sui mai (pork dumplings with shrimp and roe on top) are gigantic and not as fatty as most places. Their hand made soup dumplings - not the best, but that's the only one I'd say isn't the best. They have a really great vegetable dish, even the anti-vegetarians would love - you have got to try the pea tips (probably not on the white menu so you should definitely ask for this if you can). The noodle wrapped dishes are also good, especially the Chinese doughnut wrapped in noodle (so crispy!). Their bean curd wraps - both vegetarian and meat filled - are very tasty. Their pork ribs (pi gwut) are actually way better than anywhere else I've tried - usually they come with so much fat that half the dish is thrown out. This one is actually all meat.
Very good authentic Asian food (also obvious when you see that most people that go here are Asian, unlike some very Westernized Asian places that Asian people would never go to). Definitely worth a try , don't be discouraged by the set up. -

I don't know how I always find myself in hole in the wall kind of places.
This restaurant is kind of in the lobby of a Howard Johnson Hotel which is definitely a surprising to place to find the best Dim Sum that I have ever had. There Pork Dumplings and Shrimp Dumplings are painfully delicious. The prices on everything are inexpensive and fair. The menu for non-Chinese readers is a little bit of a struggle to understand but you just mark on the photocopied sheet and wait for your waitress to come.
The atmosphere is bustling on a Saturday or Sunday and with the food and prices, deservedly so. The area is just a bunch of tables and chairs until you get to the back which looks like a Denny's from the 1970s. The service is definitely challenging because the restaurant is a barebones kind of a fair, it tends to run disorganized between the two sections (They've lost my order a couple times.) and slow.
I hope whoever runs Delicious Delicious finds a place worthy of the food that they deliver instead of part of a hallway and breakfast restaurant.
It's rare for me to say "don't let the service get you down" but the food really is that good.
