Great little coffee shop perfect for those lazy sundays and a book.
The atmosphere is great. Very warm and inviting, feels like that typical coffee shop that you can spend hours in getting lost in a book or work while sipping a great drip.
The mocha here was one of the better I have had in the city, not the best but it is on the top scale of the list.
I would definitely go again to enjoy the atmosphere and try another drink! -

There's nothing like a coffee shop where you can sit at a little table on the patio with your piping hot java, a delectable treat and your pooch by your side. You can get all of this and so much more at a little coffee shop called Delany's.
While I have to admit the coffee and goodies at Delany's might not be the BEST in the city, it's still pretty good.
So why the 4 stars?
The atmosphere and the service. It's super laid back and for some reason, people seem to become just a bit more friendlier after they walk through the doors.True story.
The staff is also amazing. I love the service here.
Oh! And the people watching potential is top notch.
Delany's is quickly becoming a weekend favourite for me.... and Maslow (my dog). -

Drinks are good (but naturally a bit on the pricy side). The pastries look delicious.

Lovely latte, extremely creamy :) Very friendly service, prompt, and very cozy surroundings (space to park your bike one shop down too!). Lots of local newspapers to browse through.
One of the workers has some amazing tattoos ;D -

Delaney's is a microcosm of the West End: it's still quite popular, and it has a quaint charm, but its core demographic hasn't changed in years, and its best days are behind it.
Though it's still my "home" café, my initial enthusiasm for it has waned in the two years I've been coming here. While there was a time when I would have given it four stars, over time my impression of the place has been ground down, like so many coffee beans, towards the centre. (Perhaps this would be true of any place I visited so frequently; I suppose that is the unfair fate of those subjected to more business, and more scrutiny).
My main, purely gastronomic criticism: the coffee is too acidic. This goes for both the drip and the espresso. Not sure if it's an issue with the roast or bean quality, or the preparation method, but their brew is just a bit too harsh to be considered excellent (sort of like Starbucks).
In fact, for this and other similarities, this place is essentially a Starbucks for people who don't go to Starbucks. The differentiator, then, is the food (and the atmosphere).
Of particular note is the cinnamon bun, one of the best in the city (second only to Solly's, IMO). All of the baking is in the fresh, homemade style - though I'm not sure it's actually prepared on site.
This is a local mini-chain, after all, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were going for some economy of scale in their food production. But unlike other mini-chains such as JJ Bean or Caffe Artigiano, they just don't take their coffee that seriously, focusing instead, it would appear, on food, setting, and service.
Personally, I find the atmosphere a bit stand-off-ish, but maybe that's just me. At any rate, it's not often that you can get a seat here, at least on the weekends. It's popular among the grey hairs, gay men, joggers, youngish couples, and other groups that comprise the West End. If that's you, then this is your coffee shop. If not, there's always a Starbucks down the street.Listed in: Coffee time

I had a truly amazing mocha here. It was not too coffee-y or too chocolatey; The perfect smoothness we all desire. They also make this mouth-watering chocolate whipped cream that I'm actually having craving withdrawals from right now. Maybe you're in the mood for chai? Another great drink that is noticeably better than from other coffee shops. There are so many places for you to get your caffeine fix from in this area, but I'm really glad I stopped at Delany's. With wifi, locals-only feel, and quality products, I know I'll be back!

Default, fall back, can't-think-of-anywhere-else-to-go-when-I-need-my- fix kind of place, I often happen upon Delany's when I'm crashing, mid afternoon.
Drink and food wise, it does what it needs to do: jolts me awake with caffeine and perks me up with a day-old tasting, sugar laden snack.
But why I really come is for the friendly and cool peeps who ask for my name and then say "you're welcome Crystal" when I thank them for making my coffee; the jazzy tunes; the steamed up windows in the wintertime; random business people talking about their businesses; the street side people watching tables; listening to people's conversations; and the ample bar stools at the front where I can peck away at my computer and write this review ;-) -

I'm almost a regular at this Delany's and the one on the north shore, and I can honestly say that the customer service is great!
I had one barista explaining the differences between Cappuccino and Machiato for me in detail and with no attitude either, just a simple explanation.
The drinks are made well and to my taste. Be warned though, their espresso is strong so you may want to choose something like a mocha or a latte to cut it a bit.
I always find a seat out front and everyone is friendly and there are so many happy dogs to pet :-)
Still....... Dulcinea beckons across the street.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have to ask where they get their coffee, as I cannot recall who roasts, or what the composition of their espresso is. I have heard a horror story by a friend who had a 12-14 oz. drink handed to him here when he asked for a double macchiato. Outside of that piece of testimony, I have only had pleasant gastrointestinal experiences at Delany's. Straight espresso is rarely recommended by this cat, yet Delany's on Denman preps it as well as they can. I have testimony by a friend who recommends you by dessert-snacks here, though I have yet to experiment. The espresso passes the double/triple/quad test. The americano style is fine, and the espresso cafe au lait is yummy. Given the surprising dearth of properly roasted/prepared coffee in Vancouver this fall (the opposite tendency of quality compared to seven months ago), Delany's on Denman is worth the (awesome and wonderful) walk it takes to get there. Enjoy the view!

I love Delany's coffee! I have yet to find a better latte in Vancouver... and an extra shot for no additional cost. YES PLEASE. Bang for your buck, great latte's, great barrista's and close proximity to the beach. Done and done! Thank you Delany's. I also like your nanaimo bars!

Yummy coffee with lots of love! I assume it is locally owned and to me that makes all the difference. If you are in the West End and hankering for some coffee bypass that Starbuck's and head on over to Delany's on Denman they will be happy to see you and you will be happy you took my advise!

I grabbed coffee and a muffin here - which had a local feel and decent coffee. The muffin was good - a low fat berry which had good flavor, especially for being low fat. The latte was good as well. Nothing phenomenal, but tasty.

I'm rating Delaney's only two stars because of the acoustics. Yes, acoustics. Most coffee joints have good enough coffee as far as I'm concerned. I want a place where I can have a conversation with friends and Delaney's is just too noisy. Tile walls and large plate glass windows just echo everything, plus loud rock music -- not for me. Once I asked the server if she'd turn down the music and she looked at me as if I was crazy. The coffee IS good, though.

I like Delany's, and i have always liked Delany's. I can't really say anything bad about them or there coffee. It's good, but not amazing. What i actually love about this place is getting a hot cocoa in the winter with there chocolate whipped cream. Such a simple thing yet so so good. I like the location, and the setting is relaxed. Great place to grab a treat (they have a big selection) and chill out, or wander down to the beach instead.

Always loved getting coffee from Delany's when I used to live a block away from the place. Really good ambiance, and good tasting coffee to boot.

Pretty standard coffee house in west end. Has a good feel to it and the latte I ordered was pretty good. The service was prompt and the sizes are quite big. A grande kept me satisfied for a long time. If you are trying to avoid Starbuck's (good luck in Vancouver) then Delany's is a great spot. The free wifi was quick enough for a coffee house.

Coffee was fine. The dessert was pretty awful.
