Review from Melissa C.

I've come here twice now. Both times with a LivingSocial deal. First time my boyfriend and I rented the pedalboat. It was a sturdy and really fun way to pedal your way around Deer Lake and maneuver around the lily pads and ducks! There's enough room to bring a backpack too, so I wish we packed some food because it would have been a perfect idea to have a pedalboat picnic!
The second time I was here the service was AAA+++! The guy taking care of our 20 something person birthday group was amazing! My boyfriend and I came a little late but he was super quick and accommodating, we got our waivers signed and paid in no time, despite the fact that they were already swamped and busy with other customers lining up!
The majority of us wanted double kayaks and he did an awesome job finding and dragging at least 10 double kayaks to fit us all in. From there we were off into the sparkling waters doning our personal floatations devices and paddles.
This area also has free parking, a few pinic tables, benches, washrooms and change rooms, mini playground with a swing and a walking/jogging path to the side of the lake. Lots of geese and ducks too - so watch out for that poo! -

Lake wasn't that clean, but it was fun to paddle-boat with the family. Kinda expensive too.

A place to rent kayaks, canoes, row boats, or pedal boats, right at Deer Lake. There's no need to reserve, unless you have a group of 10 of more people.
On a perfect summer day, we rented a 2 person pedal boats for $17/hour, this includes life jackets and paddles. They even have a 4 person pedal boat! It was very stable, so no need to worry about flipping or anything. It was very fun too!
There's all sorts of wildlife along the shores of the lake. A great relaxing activity to soak up the sun, enjoy the serenity and savour some beer, I mean, drinks, while you're at it.Listed in: For the Love of Paddling.

It's really hard to provide a proper review of this place because the obvious comparison is Eco Kayak at Granville Island / Deep Cove / Jericho.
On the one hand, this place is about half the price. It's very serene. You're guaranteed to see lots of wildlife, including geese (by the dozens - possibly more than in Stanley Park), bald eagles, and herons.
On the other hand, you're in a fairly small lake. When you go ocean kayaking you're going to see seals, and the scenery is generally much more beautiful.
It's hard, and probably unfair to Deer Lake Boat Rentals, to compare the two. However, if you're looking for an activity that involves sitting in a boat, you really have to compare the two.
Essentially, if you're looking for cheap, a place to drink without the coast guard coming up on you, and a place that isn't super strict about when a boat is returned, and want the option of paddle boating, go to Deer Lake Boat Rentals.
If you want a more outdoorsey experience or better scenery, and are ok with playing almost double the price, I'd recommend ocean kayaking. -

Yesterday I went here with a whole slew of yelpers and non (and I think a few of them are now converts) and we had a great time. The whole thing started because Lukas Y. was wishing he could go canoeing, so one thing led to another and there we were!
There were 19 of us, so we got the group rate - $7 for 1.5 hour - and everyone piled into kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats, helped by the friendly and accomodating staff. It would have been nice to get the canoe made out of kevlar or something (apparently) but I just enjoyed being propelled by my human canoe motor in the back. The lake itself was beautiful if small. Where else can you see a row of high rises on one side and a bald eagle nest on the other? And speaking of birds, there were eagles, canada geese, and ducks, and I thnk I saw something jump up among the lily pads.
When we went to check our boats back in, I got some sort of rewards stamp card, and I will definately be back soon to get the two free drinks with the next visit.
