The other Deer Garden restaurant opened at Continental mall and much easier to find parking than the other one.
However, this place is much busier than the other and probably need the waiting time fr 15 mins to half an hour.
Well... the menu and food is the same. Of coz, I would say they're the best fish soup noodles in Richmond. -

Like others have already mentioned in their reviews, this Deer Garden is pretty much the same as the original on Alexandra Road, but this one here is at Continental Centre, a busier location, so while there is more parking, the wait for a table is usually longer.
It's a great place for Chinese-style soup noodles, giving you plenty of variety. You get to choose the soup base, type of noodle, and toppings. These "signature" noodle combos also come with a drink (extra $1 for iced drinks). If it's your first time at a Hong Kong style restaurant like this, give the milk tea a try, or the milk tea and coffee, if you are in need of a sugar/caffeine rush! For these combos, you mark down your own order on a form, so it's rare that they get it mixed up. Keep in mind it is not impossible though... happened to me once, they got the toppings right, but got the noodles mixed up with my friend's order. Another thing I love about these do-it-yourself order forms is the option of going without the extras (parsley, mushrooms, etc.) which I usually forget to mention when I am telling a server my order.
Service is decent, but don't expect too much. Proportion of the bowl of noodles is also decent. If you know beforehand that you're not that hungry, I wouldn't recommend getting any of the fish soups because trust me, that does not smell so good when you doggy bag it home. Different kinds of steamed rice and curry dishes available from the menu as well. -

Just like the other Deer Garden Signature Restaurant: BUT newer, and the process of finding Parking is A LOT more friendly!
Original Fish soup & Laksa still my favorites :) -

On my recent visit to Vancouver, this is where my trip began and ended. I rushed off the plane to eat these noodles and I left with 3 frozen orders to take home with me to LA. I. LOVE. DEER GARDEN.
This is the newer location. Decent amount of booths and tables but there is almost always a wait so be prepared. Lots of parking in this lot compared to the Alexandria location!
Soooooooo getting on to the GOOD STUFF!
I always order this specific order of customized bowl of noodles:
Thai Tom Yum Soup - SPICY and hot. Don't expect 100% authentic tom yum soup (as this is't a Thai restaurant...) but it is indeed flavorful and spicy - I would recommend it!
Korean Crystal Noodle - round, chewy and QQ
Beef brisket - tender & fatty - the way it should be! MUST GET THIS!!!
Enoki mushroom - nothing special but my personal favorite
And if I'm really hungry I'll add a side of chicken wings for $1.50 (comes with 3 pieces) and a hot or cold drink! The bowl of noodles definitely always fill me up though.... I almost never finish the whole thing :P
I would say in general most of their soup bases are decent. My friends have ordered the original fish soup, laksa and pumpkin/fish soup with no complaints! I stick to my tom yum though :P I just LOVE the fact that you can CUSTOMIZE your ENTIRE bowl of noodles - AMAZING.
With that said, Deer Garden holds a special love spot in my heart. I love it enough to freeze it away and bring it all the way back to LA so that I can enjoy it without being in Richmond. I literally DREAM about these noodles and miss them. -

How early is early? This place opens at 11a to 11p. I came here with the wife and kids on a Thursday at 11:20a and we got the last table available. The line up started after us and it's packed ever since.
I tried the Peanut and Chilli soup base with sliced beef brisket and it goes well together. The beef tongue in soup, not so much.
The Malay Laksa soup base is pretty good here.
The Parsley and Century Egg soup base, is only ok.
Table sharing is common at this place.Listed in: Family Friendly Places

This place is awesome! If you like Cattle Cafe, you'll like this place as well. Its bigger but there is still a bit of a wait. Not sure if its cuz its a new restaurant or if its cuz its gettin' cold out but there was quite a lot of people waiting for a table.
A bit of self-service as you'll have to fill out a form on how to customize your noodles n soup. Can pick from a variety of soup bases, noodles and add-ons. I usually get the beef balls and spam.....don't say another word ok, I like spam! Comes with a drink but for an extra buck or two you can upgrade to a bubble tea or smoothie. I personally recommend the kumquat lemon green tea its F-bomb awesome!!!
As for sides, I would say yes to all of the following: deep fried wings, deep fried pork chop, fried fish patties and the beef tongue (don't judge until you've tried it).
Great atmosphere, super casual and priced very reasonably.
Love this place! -

The second of the infamous Deer Garden restaurants, serving up the "best fish soup" noodles. Located in a large open space, this location is bigger than the original one.
Specializing in noodle soup combos, this essentially is a create your own bowl of noodle soup with your choice of soup base, toppings, noodles and it also comes with a drink.
I got a gingko and pepper fish soup, with fish filets, Vietnamese ham, and beef tendon as my toppings, and then the rice noodles. We also ordered some appies-the grilled beef tongue, chicken wings, pork cutlet and fish tofu.
The noodles didn't take long to come. A large bowl of goodness. Along with all the toppings, you also get parsley, green onions, cabbage, mushrooms, and bean curd with the soup. My soup was flavourful-and all the fresh ingredients were good. I got a taro smoothie for my drink, and it was surprisingly yummy!
Service was minimal, but that's pretty much expected.
Even on a Tuesday night, there was a bit of a wait at 7pm. It seemed to have die down around 8 or so, but I could see this place being very busy on the weekends. -

Laksa is good.
Everything else is crap. Don't ever get anything rice from this restaurant, just FYI. -

Great! Same as the other place on Alexandra, but more space. Parking is significantly better, so better off coming to this location. Food is fine, nice big portions of soup, which is nicely loaded with veggies. Getting those small side dishes for $1.75 are pretty good value (I always get the chicken wings).

Going as a group: There was a lineup outside the restaurant. We had a group of six which made it difficult for us to be seated quickly. There were limited tables and booths that could accomodate such a large group. The wait for our party end up being about an hour (from 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm) on a Friday night.
Food: You choose your own noodle combo including soup base, topping, noodle type, and drink. Each person fills out a form to check off the items that they want. I liked the fact that the soup base does not have MSG. You can also opt out/in for green onion, parsley, cabbage, bean curd, and mushroom for the soup base. You can select two toppings and extra toppings are an extra $1 each. Noodle types vary from instant noodles, vermicelli, rice nooodles, flat rice noodles, korean style sweet potatoes crystal noodle etc. Coffee or tea is included. $1.00 extra for cold drinks and $2.00 for specialty drinks. Side orders including wings, pan fried pork chop, deep fried fish filet are available.
I had original fish soup, home-made cuttlefish balls, fresh bean curd, vermicelli and a milk tea. My bowl had a lot of noodles but not enough of the topping. I received a total of three cuttlefish balls. I guess I was thinking that more would be provided. Therefore, if one had wanted more cuttlefish balls, one would need to order it as another topping.
Overall, the food came out quickly and was hot. I did not enjoy my bowl as much probably because I do not like noodle bowls in general. However, the people I were with enjoyed the food. Their bowls haf better topping to noodle ratio.
Value: Excellent. Soup base + toppings + noodles + drink for $7.95. THe bowl was large.
Service: Okay. They brought the food and the check when we asked for it in a timely manner.
Ambiance/decor: Slightly more trendy casual Chinese food joint. Washrooms were the standard dirty Chinese restaurant type.
Overall: I did not enjoy the restaurant as much because I am not a noodle bowl fan in general but I see the value that this place providers. Therefore, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to go for a noodle bowls. -

Deer garden is comparable to Cattle Cafe. I actually prefer the noodle soup items here (Cattle Cafe is inconsistent, flavor varies each time I go). The fish soup is flavorful and the Malay Laksa soup is delicious and not too spicy. My friend recommends their curry beef brisket, I personally think it's okay, Mui Garden still has the best curry beef brisket.
