I almost don't want to review this place to keep it a secret.

People in my line of work know of it because it's the best place to get field gear.  All your waterproof paper, flagging tape, field vests and clinometers can be found here.  But it is also a great place to find some stellar deals on outdoor clothing.

My latest visit was fruitful, but also a little disappointing.  They used to have bigger sales and more stock.  But, I did walk away with a nice Mountain Hardware (such nice stuff) rain jacket for $57 including taxes.  Yeah, that was 70% off.  So, if you are an odd size, sometimes you can luck out (or for ladies, buy men's small!).  This winter they have a huge assortment of snowshoes, but they didn't seem to be on sale.  Not that I need another pair.  North Face, Mountain Hardware, Salomon, Keen, and Helly Hansen seem to be their major brands.  You can get some other stuff too, like Dakine and Burton, I think.  There are often really nice looking boarding jackets, but I'm no expert on those things.

I have a friend who insists on visiting this store every time she comes from England.  She always buys something!

It may seem odd at first, that this high end outdoor gear store also sells art supplies but there is some connection, let me explain; these art supplies are industry related.
I'll describe the two halves of the store:

One half, (the more obvious of the inventory), is that of products similar to MEC; Rain gear, boots, hats, jackets rain pants, etc. Camping gear; sleep pads, sleeping bags cook wear, utensils, pots...
Hiking boots and running shoes, backpacks and warmies, etc.

On the other half of the store, (where were led behind and past the counter.)  On a side shelf, I saw water colour pencils and various vellum and paper pads, and architectural measurement tools, and I was thinking; *wait, art supplies?*
Then as you turn the corner and enter what appears to be a storage room of outdoor industrial essentials like water proof safety vests and heavy duty work boots, lots of tool belts and other construction worker needs, it becomes more clear.

So, overall a pretty interesting place. Prices are on the high end, as they do carry North Face and Mountain Hardware and the likes.
At the back of the first half, there are two sale racks with 50% off and I came so close to scoring some MHW rain pants (sized too small damit!)
The store advertises sales regularly with signs out front on Powel and there is a second shop on the north shore.
