    i love dedutch!

it's been years since i've been here, but there are several locations in the lower mainland. it's simple, good.

i recall telling a dutch friend of mine (from the netherlands) about a popular dutch pancake house, and she thought it was hilarious! "dutch people don't eat pancakes for breakfast. those pancakes are like a light snack!"

little do we know. still amazing though!

Food was fine, but way too expensive for what it is! Staff was a total of 2, so we waited a while for things we asked for, they came and some items never did.

What can I say, I love me a good breakfast. So when my girlfriend suggested we go here and that they had these things called pannekoeken that were essentially thin pancakes, I was curious.

I ordered the strawberry and whipped cream pannekoek and I rather enjoyed it. It simple and and just plain good. Service was friendly and the place has the air of a local breakfast cafe which I admittedly prefer for my breakfast restaurants over being pretentious.

Just be warned: the OJ is rather expensive. Makes me want to smuggle it in a flask like some prohibition drunkard who needs his mimosa in the morning.

Everytime I visit Vancouver, I ALWAYS have to stop into this place for a breakfast.

The place has a small, cozy feel. Not that many tables, but great for breakfast, or a brunch. Excellent service, and excellent food.

Get there early-ish if you want breakfast, or you'll be in the lineup!

With all the construction, it might be hard to get to right now. We ended up having breakfast there on Sunday morning before trying to go to Pride... we had to park in the neighborhood and walk a bit.

There were lots of tables that morning. Odd because this place is usually packed. We sat beneath a window or something that was blowing cold air. It wasn't that warm that morning, so I was really cold. But I was also hungry, so you make do.

We tried really hard to wait for our fourth, we really did. We ended up ordering about 10 mins before she got there. Once she came, she ordered and her food was up the same time ours was. That was very nice of the server and the cooks to time it that way!

I had the Canadian Pannekoek. I wanted to have the eggs benny, but I am going to this place for a reason--- the Pannekoek. The egg yolks were bright orange (I need to start buying nicer eggs) and the "de pork" was so good... salty, but not fatty. My pannekoek was slightly crisp and good for dipping in the eggs. Then I hit it with some maple syrup and it was scrumpdidlyumptious.

The coffee was good and refilled many times. I really like the service here. The server was really friendly and accommodating.

the food was good. i had an eggs bene with ham, and my guy had one of those super large pancakes with ham and he subbed something for hash browns. he also got an oj at the waitresses suggestion and lots of coffee refills. we thought it was good while we were eating but then when it came time to pay all the good memories we just made fizzled. our bill came to over $40, which i think is freakin ridiculous. the waitress couldve warned us that the concentrate-tasting oj she suggested was made of gold and the coffee refills werent free.
with price smart across the street we realized we couldve spent that over $40 on groceries for 3 days!
    never again...

We tried this pancake house after our BC friend recommended it. The place itself looks nice, decorated in Dutch style. I ordered veggie pancake. It arrived after lengthy waiting. For more than $10 I was expecting something different than just plain big pancake with few veggies inside... But actually it tasted pretty good. Bathroom was dirty and cold. Service was so so.
I wont go back for that price!!! I can make yummier pancakes at home.

I love this place! The restaurant looks gloomy outside, but don't let it fool you. The decor is in yellow and blue (very happy colour for rainy Vancouver). Friendly server to help you with the selection and willing to put the toppings on the side (if you are like myself, indecisive about what I want on my pannekoek). It's a nice cozy quiet restaurant, tables are a little tight (but it is not busy, so no elbow fighting). This is more expensive than IHOP for the amount of food that you get. If you like more varieties such as all wheat pancake or nutty grain pancake, and booth seating in a louder environment, then IHOP is your place. If you like a nice quiet place to have breakfast/brunch next to a fireplace, then De Dutch it is. I would go back here for breakfast again!

As a relative newbie to Vancouver, I didn't know that De Dutch Pannekoek House was a BC chain. I'd noticed a few around town and today, as we walked by the one on Knight Street curiosity got the better of us and we had to taste for ourselves.

I had a really hard time deciding what to order since they have quite an extensive menu. I finally decided to go with the Hash Pannekoek. I was a little skeptical about what a hash with hollandaise sauce on a pancake would taste like. It was really good. My wife had the strawberry and whipped cream pannekoek and that was good too.

A few things of note: Orange juice - good. Coffee - bad. Also, this location is in a tiny space. Lots of people = several degrees too warm. Wear layers.

teeny little pannekoek house in a smaller complex.  still has the same feel and design like all the other bigger locations.

was here for breakfast today with a friend..never been to this particular location.  cute and cozy is the best way to describe it.  full of families, old friends, and some couples.  i like the feel, kinda like going to grandma's house by the country for a family reunion of members you never see..

we both had eggs benedict.  mine was spinach & shrimp bennies - soo good.  don't know what it is about the hollandaise sauce...just hits the spot.  we both cleaned out our plates.  with a side of hash browns (perfectly cut teeny tiny squares) and mixed salad, it was a nicely balanced meal.

my day started off very well indeed!

The place is nice and cozy, packed with tables and patrons. A good sign in the beginning. Then service came and I realized why it was packed. There was minimal transitioning and the majority of the people were sitting around waiting for their food.

Service in the beginning was attentive and the unlimited coffee refills are a nice touch. However, service definitely waned after the initial order and food was extremely slow to arrive. Even the tables that were there before us did not get their food for a noticeable amount of time. Coffee never came around again for another refill and the wait staff were mostly hiding behind the cashiering counter near the back. To no real fault of theirs, I think the food was just very slow to come by.

My sister ordered the ham benedict. Last time I checked, eggs benedicts came with poached eggs, not fried over-easy eggs. The english muffin or bread underneath was overly dry it just crumbled. The hollandaise was not memorable and the hash were pre-packaged cubes that were simply unentertaining.
I ordered the granola pankeoke that had granola baked into the batter. It came with cinnamony apples and honey. I understand that it is a breakfast place so shouldn't the honey be in something other than prepackaged individual rip-open containers from the store? The pankoeke itself was pretty tasty, hence the one extra star for the experience. The soft apples were sprinkled with cinnamon and that went well with the pankoeke.
I also ordered a side order of scrambled eggs. The eggs were cooked brown, dry, and flat. For $2.95, it was a very low point in the meal. Scrambles are supposed to be light, fluffy, and moist.
The rest of the meal was very expensive. Our breakfast came out to be $35 including tip. Very pricey for mediocre to disappointing food quality.

Service was one of the slowest I've seen in any brunch/breakfast place. Food took around 15-20 minutes to come. After we were done, we sat around waiting for someone to come by so we can get the check and pack our left-overs. No one came by so I had to hail someone down. Wait staff was genuinely nice but lofty, inattentive, and missing.
