Review from Geneviève A.
Québec, QC
De Blanchet is a small bakery and deli that seems to be here to stay given the constant flow of customers coming to the store, especially around lunch time (knock on wood, I would hate to see it close). Don't be discouraged if there ever is a line at the sandwich counter, it has always moved rather quickly in the past and I never had to wait very long for my food. Their sandwiches are the gourmet kind and as a result are a bit expensive -- around $8 or $9 CAN for many. On the plus side, all that I've tried were tasty and made with their own fresh bread. Curry chicken with apples, pork with brie cheese and white ham with cheese are all great choices. Good to know: the sandwiches are 50% off after 4 pm, but there are usually less choices available.
Where De Blanchet really shines, in my opinion, is dessert. They have many fantastic cakes, from the traditional Opera cake to more unique flavors. They also, in my opinion, sell the best macarons in all Quebec City. They are perfect with a crunchy outer shell and so moist on the inside. They have at least a dozen flavors, including: apple pie, maple, white chocolate, raspberry, lavender, green tea, pistachio and vanilla. A must try!
