2 reviews for Days Inn & Suites By the Falls
All Reviews
You could do a lot worse than this hotel; it's a good value. The location is great: right by Clifton Hill (but not too close) and within walking distance of Casino Niagara and the falls.
My only two (very minor) quibbles are that the continental breakfast can get crowded and the layout can be confusing.
One of the other reviewers is right--you can do a lot worse than this hotel. For example, you could sleep in a tee shirt and shorts next to Niagara Falls in the winter...or you could sleep in the middle of Clifton Hill.
You can do a lot better, though...one block away on Victoria Avenue is a Days Inn that is light years ahead of this one. For some reason, that Days Inn used to be inexpensive. Unfortunately, the price has gone up recently, so that's how we wound up here.
The fact that the layout is confusing is an understatement; it took us a long time to find our room, and we didn't have much luggage. I have no idea why they just didn't arrange it like every other hotel in the free world, but they didn't.
If Candid Camera ever makes a comeback, they should definitely plant cameras in each room to film the guests' struggles with the heating\cooling system. It is incredibly difficult to figure out how to work this--one would think that the dot indicates the level of heat\cool, but nope, it's the other side of the lever. When we got to the room, it was frigid, and we had to run the heater for hours to get it at a decent temperature. The system may not have worked properly all the time, but I don't want to say that it definitely didn't work properly since it was so hard to use.
The continental breakfast was decent, but they were out of filtered water in the dining area! I used to work for an organization at which many balls were dropped, but somehow, we always managed to have clean water. I am shocked that someone on the staff didn't see this coming--probably because they were trying to direct lost guests to their rooms before bedtime--and put in a call to the distributor ahead of time. When my wife told me that they were out of water, I was incredulous! Anyhow, people on other sites say the selection is a bit small, and while it might be, it's FREE! Seriously, criticizing a free continental breakfast makes Scrooge look like Imelda Marcos in a shoe store. I bet those same people would whine if there were no breakfast at all either!
Both the room and the bathroom were a bit small. Also, while it is nice to be near Clifton Hill, the close proximity means a bit of noise. I was lulled to sleep by a nice techno beat; I love techno, so it was nice. If you don't like techno, you might want to crank up the fan to drown it out.
To their credit, this Days Inn had some advantages over the Days Inn on Victoria Ave. The TV worked better than the TV at the other Days Inn and they have pay-per-view movies. The wireless Internet was great too--it was nice and fast and steady. The parking lot was much bigger as well. Lastly, the front desk was relatively hospitable--anytime I asked for something, I received it ASAP.
All in all, it did the job, but when you go on vacation to get away and relax in the middle of law school, you want something a bit more than that, ya know? I doubt we'll stay here again.
