Review from Sarah O.
Vancouver, BC
I love the new David's tea location which offers more lounge space than just a retail front for endless teas. David's teas get a lot of small but very important details right:
cups that don't require sleeves. the extra thick cup holds well in my hand. slightly hotter than with a sleeve but not too hot that it burns my hand. good job with the marketing David's tea.
agave sweetener. the kits community is continually on some sort of cleanse and/or trying to eliminate sugar from one's diet. the light agave sweetener is a great alternative.
a minimalist space to relax and linger. never doubt the important of the 3rd space (thank you Howard Schultz). plus free wifi to do some "work" as you sip your organic cleanse.
i wonder where the next location will be... -

This place is trendy and cool and centrally located but I don't know why anyone would drink the tea considering that Granville Island Tea Company is just a short walk away and their versions of the teas are generally always better. Davids, to my pallet, tend to be not as flavorful, and what flavors they do have tend to be note as pleasant or relaxing, and just as important they don't have as nice aromas as most other tea places I have tried.
It's disappointing really. To be fair there's a lot of tea I still haven't tried here, but that's likely because I always find myself going elsewhere.Listed in: Tea, not Coffee

Holy crap, I love this place!
It's like a candy store that is full of healthy leaves and sweeteners instead of teeth-rotting junk.
I have always liked tea, but Davids Tea made me fall head over heels in love with it.
The service is pretty chill and friendly, and the staff are more than happy to yank down a bunch of canisters for you to smell, or bring you a sample of their daily brewings (steepings?).
Favourites so far...
Birthday Cake: It smells like a freakin' BIRTHDAY CAKE! No joke! And there are sprinkles in it!
Love Potion for Her: Sexy chocolate tea to get ladies In The Mood.
Gold Rush: Coconut and mulberries...it smells like caramel! If my life were a cartoon, I would have a Money Bin like Scrooge McDuck and swim around in this tea.
Organic Super Chocolate: I would like to take a bath in this stuff.
Goji Pop: A sweet-tart blend with dried fruit that has the magic fruit that superpowers are made of. Think of it as the tea version of that eagle's egg from Nacho Libre.
Their latest spring collection sampler box is nifty, too. Lots of fresh, fruity, flowery smells.
The fill-able tea bags are great, as well as compostable and biodegradable, which is great, because the tea balls and pincers are affordable but unreliable. They let tea leaf bits fall out the sides and into your cup, and the chain on one of our tea balls broke, on maybe the second use. The only reason we keep using it is because I become The Chain Whisperer when a pair of needle-nose pliers are around.
Come to Davids Tea and grab some serenity in a cup! There is no posessive apostrophe, and in the back of my mind, that's a little bothersome, but I feel like it's a fun visit to The Apple Store, but with drink Geniuses.Listed in: Surefires

Review from Pamela L.
My favourite tea joint. The first time I tried David's Tea was at a Lululemon yoga class and they popped by to serve us some of their wonderful elixirs. I have at least 12 different types of David's Tea. My favourites are the following:
-Green Tea Pear Sencha - this one is very mild and has bits of pear in it so it's very fragrant. It's light and great chilled for the summer with a small splash of agave syrup
-Opposites attract - this is a oolong tea with mint in it. Pretty strong, somewhat grassy in flavour. It has a deep flavour with a nice refreshing end to it.
-Read my Lips - this is one of my favorites. It's a black tea (i think) with chocolate bits, candied lips, mint, and red peppercorns. It's delightful, sweet, and spicy all at the same time. Ask them for a sample or just take s quick sniff and you'll be sold. I'd say it is medium in flavour.
-Saigon Chai - oh... this one is so so so fragrant. It's infused with Saigon Cinnamon and so has stronger tones of sweet spice rather than a pungent spice. It's less clove-y than Indian Chai. Full pods of Cardamon, the aroma just freshens up my home for the entire day. Like most chai tea, this is very full bodied in flavour and I'm the type of gall who puts three tea bags in one cup. My mom, who doesn't rally like non-Asian Teas, is a huge fan.
There's such a large selection of teas it can get overwhelming but don't be shy! Chat with the knowledgeable staff and they'll help you find the right one to enjoy. -

They opened the doors to their new location last Saturday, but I really miss its previous floor-to-ceiling storefront.
This new location does have more floor space but the storefront just blends in with the other shops, like the Subway next to it. I was looking for it when I literally walked past it and had to back track.
Also, not being able to take photos inside the store for Yelp left a bad taste in my mouth. They were concerned that people might try to copy the look and feel of the David's Tea if it were posted on Yelp....uh, how can that even make any sense when there are photos of its stores posted all on so many websites, including their own FB account?
But, never mind. I'm there for the tea. And oh I miss breathing in its intoxicating aromas...Listed in: From Kitchen to Table

I first tried David's Tea while waiting for a friend who was trying on clothes at the shop beside David's. They kept offering me different teas in tiny glasses and I couldn't resist any of them. I think I must have swigged more than my share of samples that day!
I did find the selection to be overwhelming, though. And they all tasted so good, I wanted to take home the lot. I have reactions to artificial ingredients and didn't have problems with the ones I tried.
That was a couple years ago. Now I'm surrounded by DT lovers and they are such addicts, that their collections are growing weekly, it seems. Since I don't use caffeine, my own use is limited to their herb tea collection. -

Every time I step foot inside this place, it feels like I've entered another realm.
Davids Tea, specifically this location, will sweep you off your feet with all its scents, aromas and tastes. The staff are extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable and willing to introduce you to the latest and most innovative in the world of teas.
Regardless of what mood you're in, there's guaranteed to be a tea fit for you! Might I suggest the 'Creme Caramel Rooibos"?
I can't keep track of how many tea options they have on their wall since they keep coming up with new ones. If you're indecisive (like how I usually am), ask a staff member politely and they will pull any can you request off the shelf and let you inhale its essence/musk/aroma or even provide you with a small sample.
Cheers! -

I'm a coffee gal at heart. But recently a friend was visiting and wanted to go to Davids Tea. And there I found it....Chocolate tea!! Now they're speaking my language. The girl was incredibly helpful. Had me smell probably 10 different kinds of tea before I settled on the Chocolate Rocket, Read My Lips and Mint Chocolate Rooibos. Great staff and great teas!

Great place for tea, hands down. They only let you sample the tea that they serve as a "welcome" at the door. I can do some serious damage to my budget here! Best tea I have had so far? Cream of Earl Grey. It is worth buying a tin and refilling over and over again. I'm pretty sure this place has wifi but it doesn't really give me the "hang out on my computer" vibe.
*Bring your own Tea container to save when buying more than a few servings worth. -

Came here for the first time with a friend who is a Davids Tea lover. This place reminded me of a tea shop in Edmonton that I used to frequent. Tons of large containers with different kinds of tea that can easily be opened to take a whiff. There was no pressure to purchase each kind we smelled and our staff member was super helpful when we chose just a cup of tea.
I understand that there are discounts if you bring back your tins and I like how they offer sampler packs that would be perfect as presents. Check out the store if you're in need of a gift either for yourself or a friend! -

Dear David's Tea,
I keep you in my cupboard and I always stop by when I'm near. The Chai Pumpkin Spice makes my life sparkle. The Cafe Mocha warms me with the fragrant aroma of coffee without the gut rot post beverage consumption. The Cream Earl Grey is absolutely a vanilla & bergamot delight!
I will be by again soon to try something new and take you home. You like that, big guy? *wink*

Holy smoke! This is some serious Tea shop. The perfect metal Tea boxes all lined up on the wall shelf gleam at you and demand brand attention. On the counter open boxes lure you in nose first. Samples are set that turn on your taste buds. You think OMG! I have GOT to buy this tea! I must share this with friends, give it as gifts!
With unusual flavours like Creme Caramel Rooibos, Shanti Ayurvedic and Earl Grey Suavé this is no ordinary Tea Apothecary, heck no.
In the back of the shop is, well... another shop? Clothing. I know this is the new thing. Pairing shops, sharing spaces. Cool for them, I think this one is odd.
Personally I though it was a bit too brightly lit inside, -Im not kidding. I mean, if it were any brighter in there they could see through your clothing. Don't go in there if you have a headache.
I actually came out with one. I think I'll shop by day. -

After doing some searching for fine tea I decided to venture to David's Tea in search of a Cream of Earl Grey tea. The store itself is very modern and the service is friendly and helpful. My friend and I were immediately given a couple of sample teas. When I told the employee what I was looking for she brought over a very bergamot-y Cream of Earl Grey and a couple of other teas to compare it with. She asked some great questions in order to pinpoint what we were looking for.
Ordering was easy as you can get tea in any amount, including a refillable tin that keeps your tea up to a year. Prices are great and cheaper than what I saw on their website. -

After being WOW'ed beyond belief at David's Toronto location, I just had to check out my local one!
It was pretty fantastic - the service was impeccable! And I got to stock up on some of my favorites without having to worry about carrying them in my luggage.
That day's sample was Cream of Earl Grey - not my favorite but it had nice subtle hints of Vanilla in it. I also learned that they changed the name of one of my favorite teas, formerly Glitter and Gold. It was updated to coincide with the Olympics and is now called, "Go for Gold" - same great flavor though! -

What an exotica and unusual selection of teas and tea blends! Everything smells so good it's hard to pick. They do tea lates and have soy milk too. It's all so yummy and flavourful, the teas really taste as good as they smell!

Wow this place is heavenly, and opens into a clothes store! Very random but super interesting. A little overwhelming actually. I settled on some Aruvedic tea suited for my body type in an iced version. Super happy and creative. Love it.

I wanted to update my review with my most recent experience, which was awesome. The manager there is super friendly and very patient (as I'm one of those slow people that take forever to make decisions). "We just want our customers to be happy," she said. Wow! It's so rare that businesses care about this very important aspect anymore. Big smile, she seemed very genuine. Customer service highly influences my opinion of a place. She let me return something I wasn't fully happy with even though I had no receipt. Now if that isn't awesome customer service, I don't know what is. Most places, especially smaller businesses, won't do this.
I tend to like T's teas a bit more than David's, but as T seems to be leaning more and more towards making money (upping the prices, not offering premium teas in-house/to-go anymore) than satisfying customers, I'm slowly swaying back to David's Tea, which was my original love since I was turned into a tea girl by their Toronto location.
Some great teas, not the best out there, but a good experience overall, especially if you talk to the manager (as she's more helpful and seems to have more patience than some of the other staff).
Check out my previous reviews of David's Tea for a more detailed review that goes more into teas (I don't want to repeat myself in this review).Listed in: Classy Caffeine Fix…

This place is friggin' heaven for someone like me.
That is someone who only, very occasionally drinks coffee and would WAY prefer an awesome tea. Who has awesome tea though? Very, very few. Even in my hometown Vic, we have Silk Road (which is fabulous), but does not nearly provide a selection I crave and few exciting decaf options.
How did I discover such a treasure? When I recently picked up the only remotely readable magazine at the gym, which happened to be some Canadian home mag of some sort, I figured I was in for a boring 30 minutes on the stairmaster. Boy was I wrong. The detailed article tantalized my senses as it referred to the most incredible sounding teas. Creme caramel rooibos? Mint chocolate?! Coco chai!!!?
These are teas that speak to me.
So I went on their website.
And I discovered the Montreal based David had a shop in Van.
And I made a list of incredible tea flavours.
Then I went to Vancouver and made my way (quite out of my way actually) to Kits. I must say I love David's branding. A really bold blue and white scheme. Very chic. The girl assisting me was super chatty and awesome and seemingly genuinely pleased we made it to the shop. I chose, very carefully, three aromatic teas. And then got a cup of Super Chocolate to go. Which tasted like chocolate cake. No need for sugar here.
So there are dozens upon dozens of amazing sounding teas and even my boyfriend (who sticks to capps) was thoroughly impressed with David's offerings. I could've spent a small fortune here.
And the best part is, the tea smells like what it sounds like and tastes like how it smells.
This is very big my friends. Can you tell I'm in love? -

Found my favorite place for tea!!
Well, my other favorite place requires a special occasion or a sponsor... (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) though they do sell loose tea as well. Davids is more my groove.
DavidsTea has a few tables, too, but I don't think they serve food. It's more a boutique of tea leaves. They have canisters of each tea lining the wall. They take any you are interested in, and let you smell them.
I happened to walk in a few days before the Fall 2010 Collection went on sale. I got two Summer ones! A watermelon one and berries/cherry one.
I also learned what "Maté" is! It's a herbal tea from South America packed with a stimulant, but not caffeine. I can't drink coffee because it makes me sleepy after about half an hour. Maté didn't do that!! I got the Chocolate Mint Maté (regular collection). Yummy. -

I was suffering through a cold so couldn't smell much but needed something cold to drink. Tada! There was the David's Tea. Since I wanted something quick to quench my thirst, I went wirh what the store recommended. It was something like electrifying lemon? I might be completely out of whack with the name. But I loved it! It was $2.50? Which is very good price I think. I would love to come back when I have my ability to smell a difference between earl grey and darjeeling returns.

My friend told me about this place... she started telling me about the teas she had bought and my mouth was watering .. so on the weekend I dragged my bf on 4th and told him we were not having coffee today and instead getting David's (wow... sounds like Jared's the jeweller!)
I walked in and before I even got to look at the counter, a nice lady handed me a sample of Cream of Earl Grey Sample... I don't like earl grey tea.. but this was not REGULAR earl grey - it was aromatic and vanilla-y.
Then another lady behind the counter starts bringing off the shelves all these containers of tea for me to smell.... tin after tin, I wanted to drink all of it - Tiramisu, Chai something something, lover's that... etc etc.. banana chocolate.. and the list goes on and on and on.... I can't eat chocolate at the moment but wanted to Tiramisu sooooo badly.... and almost went with the Creme brulee ... yes I am still talking about TEA.
BUT... the last tin she let me smell was a Caramel Pear Rooibis... SOLD SOLD SOLD... the smell of pear was sooo strong that I instantly didn't care about creme brulee anymore.
Your milk options are 1% milk and soy - I suggest you get half and half... the soy is unsweetened but the teas are sweetened by Agave Nectar (vegans approve :)).
We sat on the two stools on one side of the window (there were two on the other side)... took one sip and my eyes brightened........ I don't even know how to explain it... it was absolutely mind blowing. I was blown away at all the flavours, the strength of the tea and just how delicious it was. Even bf thought mine was better than his tiramisu (but I cannot comment on that because no chocolate for me).
For $6.50 / 50g, you can get approx 25 cups of tea.... that's probably the low end of the scale and it can go up depending on what you're buying, whether it's seasonal etc...
They also have brochures on how to make martinis with teas, iced teas and all that cool stuff I'm going to implement for my next get together. WHOOHOO!
OMG THERE IS A LOCATION IN TORONTO!!!!!!! -

F I N A L L Y ! A hot-drink alternative to the many coffee shops that line West Fourth Avenue! If you haven't been to David's Tea yet ... GO! Tons of teas to choose from - and usually a free (and, in a shot glass, generous) sample of the piping-hot flavour of the day to welcome you. Tonight I got a yummy creme brulee-tasting tea - so good with sticky, sweet and syrupy agave sweetener! Over 99 loose-leaf tea concoctions, kept in silver tin cans lining the back wall and divided by category with the help of colour-coded labels. Take your pick of black, green, white, rooibos, mate, oolong, herbal, pu'erh and ayurvedic (for balancing out your earth, fire and air dosha elements) tea; there are even such fun flavours as Nutty Monkey, Gunpowder Taffy, Chocolate Mint Mate (After Eight fans, this one's for you) and Bourbon Street Vanilla! But if you're into the traditional stuff, Davids' got Earl Grey on hand, too.
The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, so ask anything you like. And the loose leaves look as good (lots of bright colors) as they smell and taste. Tea-related paraphernalia -- think travel presses and cool-looking steepers -- are also up for sale, as well as raw vegan goodies from local company Gorilla Foods.Listed in: Give Good Gift!

My roommate and I are completely unable to let a Saturday morning pass us by without a trip up the street to DavidsTea. It is the perfect weekend morning beginning and they might have to start paying me soon for the amount of word of mouth promotions I'm doing for them lately.
They have all the usual suspects: regular to premium green/black teas, red teas, white teas, etc. But, personally, their specialty blends are what I keep going back for every week. Also, I'm dying for an excuse to buy one of their hand rolled tea leaf creations that look absolutely beautiful.
The service is very friendly, not to mention patient, allowing customers to sniff tea after tea after tea after.. you get the idea. (This is also the reason I gave them 4/5 stars vs. 5/5 because sometimes you do have to wait a short while to be attended to. There are lots of sniffers!)
Every time I've gone in I've been offered a free sample right away, which is always a nice touch. They also give you 10% off on takeaway tea if you bring your own mug. Teas are, mostly, sold by weight and can get a bit expensive, but I generally buy a sample pack (26g) for around 6$ and it lasts me a couple weeks. I believe you can bring back your empty packets and reuse them, something I'm all too happy to do.
They also sell a decent variety of accessories: tea pots, sweeteners, travel tea mugs, gift packs.
While I'm sure all the teas are delicious, the ones I would suggest are Three Wishes (gr/bl tea with jasmine & rose water), Earl Grey Suave (flavour you'd expect from Earl Grey with pomegranate and floral bits), and Read My Lips, a tea that is basically as good as desert and just ridiculously good (gr/bl tea with chocolate pieces, peppermint, vanilla, and pepper).
I used to drink multiple coffees a day, but no more! -
