I am a full on loose leaf tea junkie.

Rooibos, black, herbal, green - I love it all. And that's great, because there's a lot to choose from. And what's even better is that they have a staff that knows pretty much everything, and are really eager to share their knowledge.

The seasonal teas are always fantastic, and the iced version is the perfect treat for summer. Try swampwater on ice - it'll look like you're drinking something out of the harbour, but don't worry - it's delicious.

I love going to Davids Tea whenever I'm on Spring Garden and I love this location.

Just like the Mic Mac Mall location the staff are extremely kind and very informative, so if you have any questions and/or are curious about any tea, they'll gladly bring it down and allow you to smell it and give you info on it.

Stop by and order a great tasting tea whenever you're around. You will NOT be disappointed.

I love tea. No, that's an understatement. Tea is in my blood. I come from a VERY long line of tea drinkers - we're talking generations here. Feeling under the weather? Tea. Long gruelling day at work? Tea. Need something to help you celebrate? Tea. Tired? Hungry? Happy? Cold? Tea, tea, tea, tea. It's just what we do. So when this place opened up (actually I think it was the Mumford location that opened first) I was overjoyed. And everyone I knew was suddenly a loose leaf tea convert. *Nevermind that I'd been trying to convert them all since I was six and they were all still stuck on milk and cookies.*

The staff at this location are great. Helpful, very knowledgeable and generally friendly. Just don't ask them to pronounce the names of the tea leaves themselves - the word butchering come to mind.  The tea itself is a pretty good quality for the price (it is a chain!) and lots of interesting blends to chose from. Keep in mind though that these are mostly blend teas, and they actually offer very few pure teas. They have a fair amount of organic options, but as far as I know very little (if at all) fair trade. They have samples (although staff sometimes forget to offer them to you) and you can smell any tea you like. They also offer discounts for reusing their tins and have lots of cute teapots and random tea merchandise. This is not the kind of place you sit and sip your tea though. There is almost no seating and often what is there is taken up by friends of the staff.  But that's fine because for the most part it isn't a one cup of tea kind of place. In fact the tea they do make there isn't great (not properly steeped at all). So just buy your tea for later then go home or to work and make that for your everyday cup-o-something. If, however,  you are looking for a place to hangout and have a good (properly brewed) cup of tea head to the World Tea House instead.

Overall, I think its a good place to introduce yourself to the world of loose leaf tea. Stock up on a few varieties for different occasions and brew yourself a nice cup!

Dear David: You are the best thing since sliced bread. You are the other love of my life. Dramatic? Yes. Granted? Double yes.

I can't help it! I've walked by David's Tea on Spring Garden several times and always wondered when I was going to get the chance to stop in. While playing hooky from work, I popped in and immediately fell in love. The smells, the samples, and the colors: amazing. It truly is an experience, not just a cup of tea. The entire wall is color coated from white to green to oolong to black to pu'erh to mate to rooibos to herbals. The staff knows everything! They can tell you that secret weapon (my fav white tea) is packed with vitamin C and goji berries and is pumped with antioxidants. What better than to drink something delicious while decreasing the effects of aging. See ya later wrinkles, I'm going to enjoy my tea now.

No but seriously. Amazing service, the staff are always there to let you sample the tea of the day and to sniff the occasional canister.  I've literally tried almost 50% of their iced teas this past summer. There wasn't one that I could complain about! Some favs: secret weapon,  white tiger, blazing strawberry, citron oolong, jumpy monkey, read my lips, and exotica. I've been to both the Spring Garden and Halifax Shopping Center locations and both are great! The new fall flavors are out and I have a huge obsession with the pumpkin chai. Toasted walnut, copbanana, and mom's apple pie aren't far behind.

If you haven't been here yet, go. It is a little bit pricier for a cup of tea. You are looking at about 5.75$ for two cups. Keep in mind its loose tea and great quality. I harass my facebook and twitter with David's updates all the time. Might as well harass you.

What?! A David's Tea in Halifax? How exciting! (What I am realizing now though, is how did I not notice this place when I visited in March?)

I was quite happy to find this little place while I was out wandering for Christmas gifts a couple weeks ago.  I'm a little obsessed with loose leaf teas right now and like to try new types all of the time.  Plus, little bags of these teas make great stocking stuffers.

The place was a little busy when I went in, but it didn't take too long to get service.  I was able to ask some questions about the tea and to smell the ones I was interested in.  The gal helping me even gave me a suggestion for another tea when one of the ones I wanted was sold out.  Overall, it was a nice visit, even with it being a bit crazy a couple days before Christmas.  One point though, if you are looking for a more intimate tea house, than this is not the place - but, it is good for people watching on Spring Garden!

I'm not sure how the other tea shops will survive because David's Tea is taking Halifax by STORM!

They have tons of selections and even ones that help remedy colds. The customer service is superb. I remember the first time I went to the Spring Garden location... Not gonna lie, the girl really made my day. She was extremely informative, patient and gave off really good energy. She seemed to really enjoy her job, which made me even happier. :))

I will admit I've never been to the Spring Garden Rd location, I frequent the Shopping Ctr location as it is closer to home for me.  In any case...

David's Tea has a GREAT thing going!  Fabulous tea selection.  Stellar customer service.  Their people know their stuff, and know it well, and are more than happy to help, answer questions, let you sniff the canisters of their wonderful tea, offer suggestions....the list goes on.  They're pretty fantastic!

I'm a coffee lover, I will admit.  However, I'm also a tea lover.  David's Tea has converted me from the grocery store bagged tea to the wonderful deliciousness of loose leaf tea.  I can tell you, I won't go back to bagged.

I love their tea accessories as well.  I have purchased a few travel mugs and tea cups.

In short:  I heart David's Tea!

I just can't seem to get enough of David's Tea. Both locations (Spring Garden & HFX Shopping Centre) are fantastic and amazing and awesome annnnnnnnnnnnnd you should probably go there right now.

This location has a very small seating area, which is a nice little addition to the space. Although I would never consider David's Tea a place to sit and relax, it's nice to see a small option for this type of setting inside a retail store.

I can't say enough about the staff at David's. They make sure you have a sample tea in your hand as quickly as possible, and if it doesn't immediately wow you (enough to purchase some for home) they'll be quickly assessing something that suits you better. The folks here love talking tea, so get ready for a conversation, if you're willing to have one.

David's is like an education experience that smells delicious. You'll learn and shop, all at the same time. It's a nerdy culinary shopper's dream. And, if you haven't tried it yet, try Forever Nuts. It's AMAZING.

David's is the new downtown haven for tea lovers. Those who like it loose, varied and less than ordinary can stop into this Canadian owned chain for its wall of opportunity.

White, green, black, herbal and all thats between--- its provided in color coded tins and with a staff to show you the way. Perhaps a connoisseur of the tea lands? My visits have been sided with sample tastings, expert service and the general uplifting of healthful remedies.

The tea list is phenomenal. Rosemary and peppermint makes a tea titled "Romance". "The Skinny Tea" combines chamomile and lemon ginseng to aid digestion, boost metabolism and increase energy levels. The lime green tea is divine, and I was more than excited to see the Ayurvedic teas available according to the 3 doshas. (*Ayurveda: an ancient healing system of a holistic platform) Whether its sweet, spicy or simple, David's has me excited about hot bevies.

Its a smaller space, but filled with easy 'n' breezy lightness. Tables and thick wicker chairs align beside the garage-style windows that open up onto the street. There are tons of top-notch tea accessories to peruse, and moderately priced at that. (Some more expensive than others) And while there is currently no food option to accompany a fix, the spot is shopping around for the right fit.

Selling fair trade, a Canadian company, kind and knowledgeable staffers, extensive botanical opportunity-- all signs point to YES. The variety is fresh, inspired and ahead of the game. Tea lovas will rejoice while java drinkers can quench as well. (Try the "Jumpy Monkey" for a coffee kick.)

I was sceptical at first of a tea house making it on Spring Garden Road, but I've been put in my place, and have found my new favourite caffeine fixation location.

Three steps in the door and I was handed a free tea sample, which are brewed around the clock and handed out non-stop. The baristas (is that what they're still called in a tea house?) are knowledgeable and SUPER SUPER SUPER friendly. Between handing you samples and samples, they pull down canisters of tea (you don't even have to ask, they just do it!) so you can smell the different teas, and hear about the ingredients and how it's made and why it's special and what it will do for you. Anything they can tell you, they do. I almost felt serenaded.

Then I chose a Christmas black tea that had pieces of CANDY CANE chopped up in it. What a delight!

And if you like chilling out, the place smells like everything girls are made of, and offers trendy comfy couches to lounge in, right next to large windows displaying a non-stop catwalk of spring garden shoppers.

    GO GO GO GO GO!

I love DavidsTea. In fact, I love DavidsTea so much, I would wear a t-shirt proclaiming my love.

Easily my newest favourite store in Halifax, David's is a Canadian company that sells over 100 kinds of premium tea. This is a place that takes tea seriously. There are all varieties of teas--black, green, white, rooibos, etc. The names of the teas alone are enough to convert any coffee drinker to tea. Lemon Cream Pie, Three Wishes, and Lover's Leap are just a few.

A single cup of delicious tea will run you $2.88, a bit pricier than a standard coffee. Every day there is a tea or two of the day which you can sample for free. If you really like a tea you can buy it in bulk. Bulk buying will also give you more value. 100g in an adorable tin runs about $13.50 giving you at least twenty cups of tea.

The staff is more than knowledgeable and helpful, leaping to grab canisters off the shelf so you can smell and see all the premium goodness. You can specify what you are looking for, herbal, Earl Grey, vanilla, etc., and they are happy to suggest possibilities. I find their level of knowledge astounding. And not only do they know about products, I had a briefing on the history of tea and why it is important to heat your cup or mug before preparing tea.

The minimalist white setting allows for no distractions when it comes to tea. One downside is the limited seating. Seems the tea is mostly meant to be enjoyed as 'to-go," not an issue when the weather is warm but in the winter it would be nice to linger. Also, I'm not sure if their cups are compostable.

In addition to the tea, Davids offers a full range of tea accoutrements. I just bought a very cool glass mug complete with a stainless steel infuser and a heat insulating lid. My tea will never be the same.

David's Tea has a great selection of tea blends, service is always great, the staff are friendly and extremely helpful...free samples don't hurt in helping make a selection. My only complaint is that I purchased a $35.00 to go cup a few weeks ago that advertised $1.00 tea of the day fills. Today, I stopped into the Halifax Shopping Center location and brought my very expensive mug for a tea. Only to find out the promotion ended Sept 13 and my tea was $2.50 saving me a whooping .39 cents. I guess I'll have suck this one up and accept that fact I have one of the most expensive to go mugs in the city.

First off we have to make clear that David's Tea is a tea retailer, not a tea house.  To compare them to other tea houses is not quite fair.  You have to view them as a retail store, not a food service.  Comparing them to a tea house is like comparing Empire Cinemas to Neptune Theatre.
The store is brightly lit and the walls are lined with large canisters of tea and teaware.  Very clean and bright.  Very little seating, so taking your tea to go is popular here.
Tea blends are the popular items here.  Not many of the "pure" teas to choose from, but Ohhhh... the blends they come up with are exquisite.  If you're looking for a single estate first flush Darjeeling... not the place for you.  If you want a ginger/lemon/green/etc blend... they have plenty to choose from.
They offer a small organic selection and not really any fair trade that I noted.
The thing that turned me off David's tea is the "smelling".  They used to allow customers to smell the same teas from the same canisters they served from.  Gross.  Now in some David's Tea stores they have a small compartment on top of the canister that customers smell and serve from a separate larger chamber.
The sales staff are a bit aggressive, but they know their teas!  They seem to have the same business model that you would see in the US with Teavana.  Sales based.  Ask to smell a tea and you'll likely end up with a counter of teas to smell.
    No wi-fi, accessible by wheelchair.

I am a big fan of this teashop. For tea, locally, it doesn't get any better.
There is a tea for everyone here, including coffee lovers (such as Jumpy Monkey.) I have come here many times and always find a new tea to enjoy out of the 70+ blends.
The interior is bright and clean , in stark contrast to most coffee shops.
There is limited seating due to the small size of the outlet but the seats are very comfortable.
The prices are also very reasonable. A similar teashop chain in the United States charges ~4-5$ for an iced tea, while at DavidsTea, it costs around 2-3$.
Most of the staff is very friendly, although there are some who will throw you out soon as it approaches closing time, and others will allow you to linger somewhat longer.
The only problem I have with DavidsTea, is their hours. Closing most days at ~7:30 and opening at 9:30 is not always the most convenient for a student on the go.
My favourite place in the city for a caffeine fix or to tell a story.
