There's a very good reason that the Peanut Butter Burger has won the "Best Burger" award from The Coast for a bunch of years in a row.  I think they're to the point where one more win and The Coast will be retiring the award and giving it to Darrell's indefinitely.
My only complaint is that I didn't know about this place when I was in university, and that it's too far from downtown to make it up and back on lunch.  This would have been the perfect place to run down to during those 2-hour breaks between classes to grab something to eat, but it's too far to go to make it here and back on lunch now that I'm working.
We've been here a number of times now, even make a specific trip from Dartmouth a couple times, and it's never disappointed.  The staff is good, the service is quick, and the food can't be beat.

I've had Darrell's take-out a few times but yesterday was the first time I was in the actual restaurant. I went downstairs to their "sports bar" section. It's not really a sports bar at all, I mean it has a bar, and there were sports on the TV, but.... You know what I mean! It's just like an average dive restaurant. The upstairs looked nicer, but it was pretty busy up there.

Regardless of the restaurant itself, the food is great! Of course I got the infamous peanut butter burger, that's why I went! I took a PBB newbie with me too, and he seemed to like it! The burger was huge... I couldn't even eat it all! But it was as delicious as ever! I really like the buns they use. I feel like the bun really makes the burger. For my side I got their garden salad with honey Dijon dressing, which was actually pretty good; it was like a shredded salad almost, if that makes any sense!

Our two servers, one was training, were super nice and attentive! I love great service!

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day and after a nice drive, my husband and I decided to stop into Darrell's for a burger and poutine.

Our server was very pleasant and he kept a good eye on his tables. There was a sign referencing renovations, but we experienced no inconvenience or disruptions. Their bathrooms have been updated with modern sinks, felt a bit cramped and could use a coat/purse hook but were clean and bright.

We sat in the upstairs area, which was filled to capacity.

My husband ordered the pepper burger which came with out it's jalapeños. Our server was quick to correct that with a small dish filled with yummy jalapeño peppers!

I was very pleased by their veggie burger. I am by no means a vegetarian, but really enjoy a hot, well made veggie burger and I very much enjoyed Darrell's version. it was cooked well, crispy around the edges and tender in the middle.

We substituted our sides of fries for a shared poutine. There were sufficient curds and the dark beef gravy was tasty. We did find the fries a bit soggy, but we still (I still) finished the whole dish.

It has been a few years since our last visit to Darrell's, and I'm glad we stopped back in.

My father in law is a big fan of their peanut butter burger, and I should try that on my next visit.

    Pretty good place,
usually very busy during the summer.

    Can get very cramped inside.

The food is unique and good, the burgers are delicious.
    Reasonable price.

I have been here many times and never had a bad meal!

Nothing says vegan like a nice juicy hamburger with cheese and bacon!  That is what I told myself as I was looking for a place to grab some grub before I headed to the showing of Vegucate.

I had heard great things about Darrell's.  Best burgers according to The Coast people, although they have steered me wrong before with some of the best of winners.  This time they done did well.  I don't know if I would say it was the best, I am rather fond of The Brooklyn Burger at Brooklyn Warehouse, but it was pretty darn tasty.

I opted for their peanut butter burger.  I am not even a big peanut butter fan, but could not resist this oddity.  The burger itself was delicious with lovely condiments and the peanut butter worked with it.  I don't know I would be be a regular convert to it, but it was much tastier then I imagined.  Think of how peanut sauce is used in Thai cooking apposed to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  It is much easier to wrap your head around how peanut butter works with something like a burger.

I decided to upgrade my fries to a poutine which was probably the best I have had in Halifax so far.  A little skimpy on the cheese curds, but a lovely peppery gravy and nice fries.  I often after taking a bite of most poutines have to salt them and then usually decide to cover it up with ketchup as the flavour is not good enough, with this one it didn't need a thing, just perfect as it was.

I found the service a little lacking, my waiter seemed to have other things on the go which distracted him somewhat, but nothing serious.  All in all just a wonderful little spot and a place I will certainly be back to try out more of the menu!

I've been by Darrell's so many times when I lived in Halifax, but never actually went in until the Peanut Butter Pilgrimage.

First thing I picked up on was that there was two levels, which was great because the upstairs was pretty busy when I got there.

The downstairs has a bit of a sports bar type feel to it, but in a compressed way, meaning it can get crowded fast, but can also make for a good atmosphere for watching the big game.

Having been my first time, I felt pretty much obligated to have their legendary peanut butter burger (With the Darrell fries) and a matching PB & Chocolate shake on the suggestion of some others there with us.

First thing was the fries, which are absolutely amazing.  It isn't often that you really get the crispy outside, soft inside thing just right; but they nailed it here.

Then the shake.  Nice, thick and tons of flavour.  When they serve them up, they even bring you the metal shaker with what was left.  Talk about good to the last drop!

Which leaves the centrepiece, the peanut butter burger.  It's been voted best burger in the city a whopping nine years running, and they continue to show why.  Imagine a juicy, delicious burger, you know, the kind everyone loves.  Now, imagine it with just the right amount of delicious, stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth peanut butter, and you've got the Darrell's peanut butter burger.  I never thought it was possible for the flavours to jive together so nicely, but they did, and it was awesome.

Definitely a spot you won't want to miss and one of the city's best kept secrets!

After the peanut butter event hosted by Yelp at Darrells, I am hooked on the famous burger.

Since the bus strike is in full swing and traffic at 5pm is ridiculous my husband and i decided to visit this spot again.  What an excellent choice!

Menu contains plenty of selection and they have a soup of the day.

He had a strawberry milkshake (which was a hit) and i an iced tea (not too sweet, just right for me-free refills on the tea).  We split an order of mozza sticks which were hot, crisp outside and oozy cheese within.  Had a tasty sour creme based dip which were great.

We both had the peanut butter burger...  His loaded, mine sparse on the condiments (that's another story)...  Served quickly and hot! Here's a tip i learned from Yelp Ben, eat the burger upside down...best way to eat it!!!  may sound ridiculous, but it makes a difference!  The Darrell wedge fries are yum!

Our server was very nice, charming and quick.  Attentive to a good level.

The restaurant is split over two floors and it appears that they use a phone to put the orders in from downstairs (kitchen is up).  Place is clean and capable of hosting larger groups (I saw a group of 15). The decor is simple but really, I am there for the food, I usually don't lick pretty walls!!!

All of this for around $40...  Pretty good for two people.

    Darrell"s Restaurant:
Two of my friends and I were starving to death and were craving something Juicy! The first thing that should pop in anyones head here in Halifax is Darrell"s restaurant.

Instead of going to any Burger fast food restaurant ( would not like to state names but we all know where we go for burgers when you are munching ! :) ) and spend an average $10 dollars for a junk fast food drive thru. Darrell's is all about the speciality well made Variety of Burgers they Provide.

My favourite is the Mushroom burger or the INFAMOUS peanut butter burger, a thick film of peanut butter , slice of molten cheese, and a FAT heavy well cooked Burger. That one meal with Darrell's special fries ( wedges) cooked with their spices and way is good enough for you to be full. ( and trust me, i eat a lot!)

For the first time i decided order an appetizer besides my main meal ( notice i was starving) , so my friends and I ordered an appetizer called M.A.D. A combination of everything they have in the appetizer menu. With Mozza Sticks, Chicken Fingers, Fried Mushrooms, Potato Wedges & spring roll. The is no better way to warm up before the main dish . Not to forget , they give you 4 DIFFERENT Sauces with it ! One drawback is that the M.A.D dish has more Potato wedges than any other side which is just not necessary since you will get more of them in your main dish. so i advice them to throw equal quantities of all.

Finally , you cannot leave the place without trying their specialty MILKSHAKES! chocolate peanut butter might sound "eww" to you but trust me it's mouthgasmicc!. Also Strawberry Milkshakes are amazing.

Holy crow! I cannot believe I have failed to review Darrell's.
I used to live just around the corner and the hearty wraps and burgers were a diet staple.
Never in my life would I have considered peanut butter on a burger, but one experiment at Darrell's and I was hooked. Sometimes I even do it at home, but there's nothing like the big juicy patty there in those green vinyl booths to make it an event. (They'll even make it with a (very tasty) veggie patty)
And I have no success making wedges anywhere near as good as the Darryl's fries.
The time is gone again for this year, but the festive wrap is also an event. Piles of just-roasted turkey, moist stuffing, cranberry sauce, all wrapped up and begging to be devoured? Yes please.
And back when I ate cheese, the turkey-pecan croissant was also a serious contender.
What are you waiting for? It's almost  lunch time!

I have been eating at Darrell's for at least ten years and I've only had one thing there I didn't like (falafel salad -should have known better). Anyway, back to the point yesterday I got my favorite original wrap -no mayo with Darrell's fries and it was awesome! Fresh roasted turkey, bacon, and cheese pita wrap with a side of spicy potato wedges. I love it when I can call in a takeout order on the fly without needing to see a menu. My second favorite is the PB burger, yes your should try it, can't wait to have one with a beer on their sunny patio soon.

3.5 stars. I do like the diner feel of this burger joint but I guess I had my hopes up too high? The service was quite slow and inattentive and only got good at the end of the meal. It took over 5 minutes for someone to greet us and when I asked for another side of ketchup, it never came. I admit, I wasn't ready to try the pb burger, so I opted for the hen den burger. The topping of egg and guac and bacon is a delicious idea and I fully applaud it. However, the burger was a mere patty that seemed of the frozen kind and was nothing special. Sadness-with a real meaty burger these toppings could have made it 5 stars! The wedge fries are pretty good and a nice change of pace from normal fries. Maybe I would have been happier if I had ordered a milkshake...

Having spent a lot of my University days in the south end, Darrell's was the #1 place for my roommate and I to go for food on a lazy Sunday evening.

I have yet to try anything on the menu that disappoints and with a wide variety of items to choose from, you never have to get bored of the same thing. My favorites are the Abrigo Chipotle wrap and the PB burger!

I also love the consistency that you can expect at Darrell's. Whether you're eating in or taking out or whether it's crazy busy or super slow, the food always tastes fresh and deeeeeellllicious!

Always kept hearing about the 'Peanut Burger' and 'Shakes' years before I actually went there. Well, the burger does not disappoint, it's a strange combination but definately works. I now have an egg to go with it and the waitress laughs everytime :). I tried the shake for the first time this year and it's the best I've ever had; very thick and creamy, but not so thick that you lose a lung to get it out.

The service is always spot on.

Like The Economy Shoe Shoppe or Your Father's Moustache, Darrell's belongs to a certain category of Halifax restaurants that are must-eats for anyone visiting the city, regardless of the quality of the food. Luckily, unlike the Moustache or the Shoe Shoppe, the food at Darrell's tends to live up to the restaurant's reputation.

Darrell's is a one-restaurant-fits-all kind of joint that should satisfy anyone you bring along, unless they're looking for something uber-healthy. You can get just about all of your basic fare at this south end restaurant - burgers, salads, wraps, a wide selection of appetizers, nachos, soups (corn chowder!)... the list, much like the beat, goes on!

Somehow, in my first three years of living in Halifax, I failed to notice that there is actually a downstairs dining room at Darrell's. So, although I might have docked points for a tight space upstairs, the downstairs room easily makes up for this.

A review of Darrell's would be blasphemy without a paragraph devoted to the peanut butter burger. It's everything it's supposed to be: very odd, very creative, very tasty. Just trust these guys and order it. They know what they're doing. And get it with Darrell fries (wedge-like slices of deep-fried awesome) and a milkshake. The burger is already going to give you a heart attack - just go for the whole experience.

For the vegetarians amongst us, you can still have the peanut butter burger (just without the bacon). Darrell's has a great veggie patty that can be used as a substitute in all of the restaurant's burgers.

When you need some greasy comfort food, head on down to the south end and indulge. Everyone else in Halifax has done it before.

Where do veggie's go when they live downtown and have a wicked hangover and need a burger and fries? Well, if they're smart, they go to Darrell's. The veggie peanut butter burger with Darrell fries is the greatest hangover lunch you can have if you're vegetarian. If you're not, then just get the regular peanut butter burger :)

Delicious, fast, and reasonably priced. Just the perfect little spot.

I'm not usually one to go nuts over weird food (I'm still stuck in my "But sushi is creepy!" phase). Be that as it may, I am guilty of a little peanut butter experimentation every now and again. Pizza and peanut butter? Only okay. Peanut butter, cheese, ham and salt+vinegar crisps in one sandwich? A+++ Would eat again!

Which brings me quite nicely to Darrell's peanut butter burger -- INSANE. My boyfriend and I paid Darrell's a little visit on a recent trip to Halifax with the intention that at least one of us would get the peanut butter burger. I chickened out because I felt it was way too early in the day for burgers, never mind peanut butter burgers, but I did try a bite.

First off, they use just the right amount of peanut butter. Like really, just the right amount. Think more mustard-on-a-sandwich as opposed to Nutella-on-french-bread. A thin layer on the top bun. In my opinion, the whole flavour was a little ruined by the presence of the relish (it just didn't work for me), but it was still amazing. Like the 3 second rule; dropping it doesn't really affect the foodgasm, but you'd rather not have dropped it in the first place. Does that make sense? Whatever.

I had the barbeque chicken pita (it's a wrap, the menu is a lie), which was extremely tasty too, and a side of onion rings. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. So good that I finished them first and had to get half my sammich to go.

Minus one star because the service was a little slow. It took a while for us to get seated and the chef had to tell our server our order was up three times before he came to get the plates. We could see it sitting on the counter getting cold and hear the chef calling out to our server but he just went right on seating people, taking drinks orders etc. We were half tempted to go grab the plates ourselves but on the off chance someone else ordered EXACTLY the same stuff as us, we didn't. He was also slow bringing the bill once we'd asked. Not a problem for us because we weren't in a hurry, but still, I could imagine throwing an internal hissy fit if I was there for lunch during the week and had to get back to work.

Well I had my first experience at Darrell's and the food was amazing. The Darrell fries are to die for and I had the pita club which is better than any other pita I've had before.

I don't know what it is but I absolutely love the restaurant decor. It feels very retro and welcoming; the waitress we had was also pleasant, quick an attentive to our table.

My next trip will involve the infamous peanut butter burger and a strawberry milkshake.

For whatever reason, I tend to forget all about Darrell's. Well, probably because I drank too much in college but still...the point is that I only make it into this south end diner about once or twice a year. After the last visit though, that's about to change.

The fact that my parents still tell me stories about Darrell's from their university days is a true testament to its staying power. Armed with burgers, fries, wedges, and milkshakes, it has lasted year after year, drawing in those brave and hungry souls on a pilgrimage to the ever-famous and all-powerful Peanut Butter Burger.

"Burger what now? Peanut Butter huh? Are you crazy?"

Crazy like a fox, non-believers. Crazy like a fox.

The peanut butter burger is an experience all of its own. If you're going for it, you need to go for it. Shut down your brain before you get there so you don't get caught up in the details before the first incredible bite. It's easy to panic when you see the fresh bun, the juicy patty, the lettuce and tomato, the mayo and relish on the bottom, and the thick smear of peanut butter on top...but trust in those who have come before you. It's absolutely out of this world.

While Crystal H and I worked through ours (mine was made using a veggie patty which they'll do for any of their burger choices - awesome, huh?), we put burger theories to the test:

First, flipping it upside-down DID successfully protect the optimum Bun Ratio throughout the feed.

Second, inadequate napkin reserves required a quick tactical adjustment that led us to just eat the burger straight through before attempting a clean-up.

Third, conversation was mutually halted to provide adequate focus and appreciation of the meal in hand.

Fourth, no judgment was passed on those determined enough to move onto the deliciously spiced Darrell wedges to really guarantee a food coma worth remembering.

Go forth, young grasshoppers, and feast!

I visited Darrell's again this weekend for the umpteenth time and I was shocked to find out I hadn't written a review yet. So here it is. I love Darrell's. It has to be my number one favourite discovery of this year, and it has stolen first place as my favourite restaurant. Although I live in Dartmouth I will gladly cross the harbour for some Darrell's eats. It's worth the trek. I completely regret not knowing about this place when I was in university and extremely close to it.

I've had a few different dishes but I tend to stick with the abrigo chipotle chicken wrap. I dream about this wrap. The chicken is beyond tender, the pita fresh and soft, there is just the right amount of spice and flavour. I love love love the bean cilantro dressing. Apparently a liking or disliking of cilantro is genetic, so if you don't like the flavour don't fret, I usually ask for the wrap with the corn/bean/cilantro dressing on the side. I could eat this meal everyday. I go for the less healthy option and get fries as my side, but you can get a salad instead. The fries are always fantastic, crisp and hot every time. The portions are also perfect and you're not overloaded with food. I always leave feeling full but not gross or greasy inside. Did I mention that I could eat here everyday?

    Peanut butter burger.

Those are the 3 words I've been uttering multiple times daily since experiencing my first on my last Haligonian trip. I can read your mind... you're wondering if I'm crazy... how could peanut butter work so well with a BLT, Cheese + mustard, relish and tomato burger?

But, wait for it, IT DOES.

    Burger Rules:
    1. Pad your pockets, line your loins with linens. Lots and lots of linens.
    2. Don your biggest appetite. This could be your one meal of the day.
    3. Don't bring a first date. It's messy. Very very messy. Unless you don't want to engage in any idle chit chat. Your mouth will be too full of burger and PB!
    4. Order the wedge fries as a side. And make sure you eat a few before you start on the burger. You just might not finish.
    5. Wait for your laundry to be done. Oh, wait, those nooks are just for the laundromat that USED to be in the basement. That makes total sense :p
    6. And even after all of that, it's probably smart to have a direct route to the bathroom - which, FYI, is more modern than the rest of this dinery-dive combined.

Ode to a Peanut Butter Burger, Darrell Fries, and Chocolate Milkshake, Or, How I Found Everything I Never Knew I Wanted For Dinner...

Okay, I'll admit it, I was one of the skeptics.  Peanut butter, something I had previously only ever combined with jam and bread, maybe the occasional cracker, with a hamburger and all the (more traditional) fixings?  Come on, how could that possibly taste good?

    And yet...

    I now believe.

Wow.  The whole meal was like a party in my mouth.  The salty sweetness of the peanut butter played really well off the savouryness (is that a word?) of the meat.  And the Darrel fries were equally good, crispy, slightly spicy, and very tasty.  The crowning glory to the meal was the milkshake, incredibly thick and creamy, and full of chocolate-y goodness.

I have also had their Original Club Pita, which is seven different kinds of delicious in  and of itself.  And their nachos.  Again, wow.  Not *quite* enough cheese for me, but I'm very picky about my tortilla chip to cheese ratio with this dish.  Still, VERY yummy, served hot, with a decent amount of toppings, and fresh, crisp chips.

Service seems quite prompt and friendly, and I enjoy the old-timey diner feel of the place.

So if you haven't already, take a chance and give the ol' PB burger a try!  I bet you won't be disappointed!  And if you are, can I finish what you don't want?

OK, I'm admitting it, I walked by this tucked away gem daily for close to 2 years! Then one glorious, yet hungover, afternoon we stopped in. It felt like Moses split the seas and directed us in!

We choose a table (downstairs), and then quickly ordered something greasy that would ease the pain of the previous night. I ordered their famous club wrap, and from the first bite decided I would never order another thing off the menu. My girlfriend is less stubborn, and has tried several options on the menu and has loved everything equally.  Also, the service is always great, and very casual. You're not pestered, nor are you forgotten.

Darrell's isn't swanky by any standard, and if you're looking for a fine dining experience keep on Yelping. But if you're looking for a place with exceptional food, great service, and something to ease the ache of last night than this is place for you!

Believe it or not, this was my first time at Darrell's. It was great! Unfortunately due to healthy eating issues, I couldn't order the famous peanut butter burger but the salad I had was yummy. Nice size and good price.

The milkshakes my friends ordered were large enough to share. You can get 2 glasses per shake.

The restaurant was smaller than I thought it was. It's like an older style retro diner- I think that's an appropriate description?

I did get to have a bite of the burger and I can't stop thinking about it! The 'Darrell's Fries' were also delish.

I'll be back soon for sure to try out ol' faithful peanut butter burger.

After 5 years in the city, I can't believe it took me so long to get to Darrell's. I have to say, that after all I heard about it I was slightly underwhelmed. I thought about ordering the peanut butter burger, but opted for the mushroom instead. I LOVE mushrooms, and hardly ever eat them at home because my fiance is not a fan. The burger was tasty, but the bun got really soggy and by the end I just chucked the bun and at the patty by itself. The wedges were good, but I was so full I couldn't finish. I think if I had ordered the salad I might have felt differently, but the burger was pretty large and filling and I just felt the whole thing was a bit heavy.

I was very happy to see them promoting Garrison beer - my fave! We had pretty good service from our waitress despite the fact that it was quite busy. I would like to go back to try the peanut butter burger and maybe the milkshakes at some point.

I hadn't been to Darrell's in about 4 years or more... so when I mentioned to friends that I was craving poutine when I got off my flight from Calgary, well, they brought me here.  When I used to visit Darrell's it was for the pita lunches, so I didn't really know that they had good poutine.  It's unfortunate that I haven't tried the famous Peanut Butter Burger yet, but I had poutine on the brain and that's all I wanted!  Which is fine, because it was very tasty and filling.  Yummy gravy and plenty of cheese curds to satisfy your poutine desires!  My friends got the same meal, so I can't say much about the rest of the menu for this trip (but I do remember the pitas used to be very good).

The service was very quick and friendly, which was nice because I'm sure I was telling some bad jokes after my long day of flying!  I had definitely missed being around my fellow Haligonians and our server reminded me how great the people of this city are.  I also quite enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, very comfortable and low key which I like.

It's good when you can say that the service and food are still great in between a long break in visits... I'll definitely be back again when I'm in Halifax with another poutine craving.  I will have to try the Best Burger then - no excuses!

If Darrell's was a real person, he'd be one of your favourite people: friendly, fun, reliable and consistent.

The service is always friendly and attentive. The reasonably priced food is consistently fresh and flavourful--a step above typical diner fare. And even when the place is busy, the food arrives quickly.

While this place is known for its award-winning burgers (perfect hangover food), I always order another signature dish, the Turkey Pita Club. The combination of fresh pita, home-cooked turkey and tasty bacon wins me over every time although on my last few visits I have been tempted by the recent culinary innovation of the Hen Den burger (a massive burger topped with an egg, guacamole and other tasty toppings). The Darrell fries are usually well cooked, making a crispy and tasty side dish. If you're looking for a healthier choice, the house salad is a strong option.

In the drinks department, the milkshakes are awesome. With a whack of flavours to choose from, you get full value as the shakes are served with the extra in the metal container. If you're not into shakes, free refills on pop and coffee should tempt you.

The environment is definitely laidback and casual. You can sit upstairs in one of the comfy booths. If you prefer a little more space or are with a larger group, opt for downstairs where there are traditional tables and chairs. On packed nights, you can grab a seat at the downstairs bar. On both levels, you'll be able to watch sports on a flat screen tv. In the summer, you can sit on the fairly large patio.

The mixture of customers--university students, twenty somethings and young families--shows Darrell's is clearly a favourite neighbour.

    Peanut Butter Burger, indeed !!!!

What a brilliant thing to be know and city wide famous for.  I don't think the paddy itself has peanut butter mixed into it, just a thick layer spread on top like any other garnish.  So simple yet soooooo delicious.

It must be getting close to my tenth visit and this place is consistent, spot on every time with better than average service.

If you are going to brave a milkshake all to yourself, bring your appetite.  I suggest sharing the shake with a friend so you don't risk leaving anything behind on your plate.

If you are here in the summer, ignore the above.  Apply generous amounts of sunscreen, get comfortable on the patio and imbibe.

Fair trade organic java, vegetarian options aplenty, milkshakes and onion rings - this is a sport's bar with a twist, priding themselves on quality and consistency, with a dash of originality to boot.

Have you ever heard of the Darell's famous peanut butter burger? It's all the rage amongst the converted fiends. They consistently win The Coast's 'Best Of' award for both their crazy nutty burger, as well as their juicy meat-free option.

They have a huge menu, with burgers, falafels, pitas, lasagna, nachos and fries, salads and poutine, coming together to create far too many choices for any individuals afflicted by an inability to make decisions!

Their service is friendly and homey, and the space is cozy with ample TV screens for your viewing pleasure. When the sun graces the sky for the short Halifax summer months, this patio is a must visit. It is a lovely wooden space, with botanicals spilling from boxes, on a quiet South End street.

My recommendations for you: Order a vanilla milkshake, some onion rings, and if you're extra hungry, one of their renowned burger options. You'll be as tickled by your meal as you will be by the great service and hospitable atmosphere. Happy scarfing!

This is a classic Halifax restaurant. The peanut butter burger is legendary, and I can't believe it took me five years to work up the courage to order it. They make one of the best milkshakes in town, and I would give anything for them to serve their "Holiday Wrap" year-round. Turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce? That's Christmas and happiness rolled up in a pita.

I must say, I don't really get what all the fuss is about at Darrell's Restaurant. I get that the ambience is funky, with its old time 'burger joint' feel, but my enjoyment of the place pretty much runs full stop there. Correction, the shakes are pretty amazing! Very filling though!

Several months ago we popped into Darrell's having heard about their award winning burgers (and general popularity among The Coasts readership).

The burgers were just ok. I had a particular beef with my peanut butter burger. I must admit, I was expecting lentils, peanut butter, possibly some sprouts and veggies of that sort and instead I received a meat patty with peanut butter spread on top as though it were mustard. I'm not a vegetarian but I was almost dumbfounded that peanut butter spread on a burger is what everyone had been raving about.

Overall, nice ambience- head in for a milkshake but don't be surprised if you can't discern what all the ruckus has been about with regard to the food.

Darrell's is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner even just grab a milkshake on your way by! I love their peanut butter burger, which at first sounds a little off, but once you try it you realize it was a match made in heaven! The peanut butter chocolate milkshake is my favorite, also try it with vanilla!! Darrell's fries are a must, potato wedges cooked to perfection with the best blend of spices.

Guys, it's not a joke. Stop resisting the siren song of the peanut butter burger and just give in to its ooey gooey goodness. And while you're at it, shovel in a hand-full (or 5) of Darrell's fries. Your waistline might regret it, but the rest of you won't.

Darrell's. I did not venture for the PB Burger. But I did take the recommendation of Lacey for the onion rings and milkshake.

Not the healthiest of meals, but it was mighty tasty. This is a spot to go for the summer in my opinion, I love patios and summer is here.

I am sure there are other things on the menu that will appeal to you, I was not in the mood to venture there. Although I like a good burger, the reviews here have not been over the top for the burgers.

The Peanut Butter Burger? Upon a recent reading of The Coast's "Best Of Halifax" categories, my sister dragged me to Darrell's so she could explore the best burger in town. And while burgers aren't my thang, it was also noted that Darrell's was recognized for its "Best" milkshake as well. Milkshake? I can do that...

We took a trip to Fenwick Street, and enjoyed this restaurant's cosy, low-key nature. The menu stated a veggie PB burger option, and I figured I must give it a try. (Saving the milkshake for a later date) It was all its cracked up to be. Big, beautiful, tasty delicious. I couldn't finish the whole thing, but it was one juicy mouthful.

Not sure if I'd order this burg a second time, as it was just a lot to handle. Definitely delicious, and burger fiends will surely find love. But me? Well I was still left with a milkshake curiosity. Looks like I'll have to make a second trip.

One of the things I miss most about living in the south end is the quick walk to Darrell's. I used to love heading down for lunch and occasionally supper. The burgers were delicious and the service was fast and friendly.

Recently I went back to Darrell's. I am happy to report that not much has changed. The food is still delicious and the staff is still friendly. I love the BLTCM and M,R, and K (minus the M and R, of course! yuck!). It's a classic burger served with spices wedges called Darrell Fries. It's very filling and the perfect price for the amount of food you get.

Another great option at Darrell's are the milkshakes, specifically the chocolate one! Have one and you won't be disappointed! For those of you who are supplement soaked, you can add a protein shot from the supplement king for an extra $1.89. It's not for me, but it's kind of nice to have the option I guess.

Overall Darrell's is a great spot to grab a bite on your own or with a group. Also a solid spot for a first date if you're into that sort of thing! Check it out!

I went there at night so it was kinda hard to see how the place would look during the day.  It was darkish but is a good ambiance for dinner.

I had a tuna wrap.  It was a right portion and prepared well.  The dish came with a choice of fries and it was also decent (but all those added calories...).  The pretty server girl was very friendly too, always smiling and taking care of customers at the right time.  Many places these days overlook that sort of factors but it counts in my opinion.

Overall it's a much better experience than eating at a fast-food type restaurant.  I may try other dishes when I allow myself to have greasy kind of food next time.  They actually do have vegetarian burger, etc., as well.
