If I could describe this hotel with one word, it would be quaint. It had a classic and historic feel without managing to be grungy or dirty. The man at the front desk who checked us in (last name was Davies) was very considerate and sweet and made sure we had everything we needed with a hospitable, homey attitude. There was a full coffee shop and complimentary breakfast each morning AND we were able to get 15% off food at The Office, the attached restaurant/bar below, each and every time we went.
The room was exactly what we needed it to be. Not ostentatious or anything, a bed, a dresser, table, sink, mirror and separate toilet and shower room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great, with great pressure and temperature. Maybe it's a bit of vanity, but the only thing I can say negatively about the room was that were was only one mirror.
The Dalton is also in a great location in Victoria, with The Office on one side and a liquor store on the other. Across the street are two movie theatres and its surrounded with shops and restaurants.

Oh, boy. Yes, it's central and relatively cheap, but seriously. The room we had was small, stinky (clearly it used to be a smoking room), the beds were too short for me (I'm 185cm or 6'1''), there was a severe leak in the closet that dripped, the faucet leaked all over the counter and it generally had a dingy and not clean feeling. Add to that keep-closed fire doors that were propped open, a breakfast of stale bagels and bruised fruit and $10/night parking and you have a less than stellar experience.

I've stayed in a lot of crap hotels in my time. This one, unfortunatel, falls in the same category.

The location of the hotel was excellent. The small breakfast buffet was OK. Usually I stay at 1 or 2 star hotels for budget issues, but never had a room so awful. The plumbing was so noisy that i could not sleep at night! Really, it sounded like an explosion each time someone flushed it! The room was stuffy, and the carpets felt like they have not been vacuumed for a long time. I recommend this hotel only if you are a strong sleeper!

I recently went up to Victoria for a girls weekend.  My friend and I stayed here & really enjoyed it.  We got a GREAT deal off of their website and figured for that price we could deal with just about anything.  We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the hotel and the friendliness of their staff.  While it definitely is not a 5 star hotel, for what we paid we felt that we really got a great deal.  The room was tiny but we didn't spend much time there, so it didn't bother us.  The bed was VERY comfortable and the overall decor of the older building was quaint & very inviting.  The walls are thin, and while we could hear people walking and talking during the day, it never kept us awake at night.  Great, central location in Victoria.  I would definitely recommend this hotel & stay here again any time.
