UMMMMm decisions decisions. It is so hard to chose when I get there from all the tasty treats. I remember going to DQ as a kid and you thought that the dilly bar was all that. Now you go and it is like OMG!
Not only does DQ have one of the best cheeseburgers in town for me that is I like that it is char grilled it is delicious. Even though I am a lover of the big "H" they do not beat DG for the cheeseburger. Now as for the fries never really fussy on those at all.
Normally when we go we sometimes either split a banana split with no pineapple or I get a medium dipped cone YUM. It is dangerous when they have that special. 2 for $4 or 3 for $5.eeekkk
Summertime at DG on SGR is always packed. This location is not a big one but it does have some table and booths so that you can sit and enjoy your meal or that cold treat. -

Finding a DQ
in an unexpected place
is always an unexpected
treat
Scream in the snow. Doesn't get much better than that. I've eaten Dairy Queen in many places but never up here. Never occurred to me that Canada even had DQ's. What a pleasant surprise.
I've devoured many a DQ treat and if nothing else I've found it to be remarkable consistent. With very rare exceptions one blizzard is just like all the rest. I was curious to see if the DQ's in Halifax were any different and just had to do some "research".
It was about 25 degrees F, that's -3.9 C for those that persist in using the metric system, with a howling wind and light snow but the store was quite crowded. A little cold and snow wasn't stopping these folks from their fix of scream. So I took my place in line and got a chocolate dipped cone and a small blizzard.
Yep, it was indistinguishable from the multitude of other DQ treats I've eaten. Different country but same ol' DQ.
The store itself looked a little different from the ones I'm used to. A bit older perhaps with different advertisements but clean and large enough so a herd of people could easily find a cozy spot inside out of the cold. Everyone was very nice and friendly and the young ladies behind the counter were exceptionally amiable and courteous. Sometimes it doesn't matter where you go, you never really leave.

Just keep an eye on the employees and you will get what you ordered.
This DQ isn't that much different from other DQ's. Although I found other DQ's have more reliable staff which is why this one only gets three stars.
Here are two occassions where I learned that one must watch the staff in order to get exactly what you ordered.
Situation #1
I ordered a mushroom melt burger. I saw the guy take his time putting it together which doesn't work well with my natural impatient tendencies. But I couldn't see the part where he put the burger into the bun. So once I got the bag with my food in it, I pulled out the supposed burger in order to inspect it and found that in fact the burger wasn't in there. It was just mushrooms and cheese between a bun. So I showed it to the girl behind the counter who then informed the cook that a burger must go in there.
Situation #2
I love their choclate dipped cones. However if I ask for chocolate ice cream and am not watching them, I'd say 70% of the time they go straight for vanilla.
So this particular DQ store needs to have its staff watched or the Manager needs to remind his/her staff that they need to remember the orders from the time they take it to the time they make it. And in my humble opinion, it isn't that hard to stay focused and remember orders in a fast food ice cream and burger shop. Try being in a high class restaurant serving a table of fifteen. Point is, that part of the job isn't too hard. I'm sure there are other demanding parts to this work, but I'd love to not have to manage the staff while I am in the position of customer.
So the staff are the reason two stars are missing but this is a solid three star rating. I love DQ's new menu pricing selection, their ice cream and sometimes their burgers. That is when there is meat in them. This is definitely a great place for guilty pleasures. -

This is the best DQ location around these party. The retro green vinyl booths, the neon lights - what more can you ask for from the queen of ice cream?
I swung into this locale on Sunday; after some other funny Halifax indulgences, this seemed like the cherry on top.
Andrew and I opted to share a banana split. I don't think I've ever ordered one before and was hesitant about the decision. It turned out that my initial uncertainty was spot on - it was a pretty boring treat.
There wasn't much ice cream or toppings for that matter, plus the weird pineapple compote was a little icky. Also, the ice cream seemed greasier than ever before - can I assert that it's loaded with corn syrup? I think I will.
So the treat wasn't all that, but it was a fun time. I'll go back, especially when I'm having a summertime strawberry sundae craving. I will advise that you don't indulge in DQ's offerings with frequency - it's pretty unhealthy stuff made with low quality ingredients (I surmise), but once in awhile, it's fun and tasty! -

This DQ carries a retro vibe amongst the times of mass corporate renovations. Its got a wholesomeness about it that embraces fast food of the early days more than now... which is nice! Avoiding sleek interior updates and patronized employees, my impression of our Spring Garden Dairy Queen is respectable.
Service is sweet. Employees are youngens who are eager to please. Its nice to have such delightful treat makers at your service. Can't say I mind it!
The last time I was in, I purchased an ice cream cake and it was all quite friendly. Although the penmanship on the cake could've been better... I was very pleased with the cute and accommodating customer service.
Solid spot for cold treats. Hot eats... but cool treats more likely. I hope this place doesn't renovate. Its the only spot where I'd embrace neon lighting. -

Here's my thing: I like chocolate soft ice cream, and this is one of the few Dairy Queen locations that tends to have it. On occasion, unfortunately, even this location's chocolate soft machine goes on the fritz, and I am left ordering a peanut buster parfait with plain old vanilla ice cream. Boooo!
But why is chocolate soft so scarce? Dairy Queen needs to sort out their chocolate issues, people! I think I need to start a Facebook group. -

It is undeniable that my serious sweet tooth was inherited directly from my mother. She's a lovely lady, but she's also the reason I have a real hard time saying no to a chocolate dipped cone from DQ. Is it good ice cream? No. Is it good chocolate? No, it's more like chocolate wax. But does it remind me of my momma? Yessir, and so I love it.
I avoid it most of the time, but occasionally my nostalgic taste buds get the better of me and I pop in for a cone.
