Daimasu is part of a long standing chain of Japanese restaurants. I haven't been in years but went recently for lunch.

This review is about the value lunch special: For $9.95 you can choose any three items on their lunch menu (drink and miso soup included). What stood out to me the most was the variey of items on the menu. Usually with these super value meals the choices can be quite limited but there was sashimi, rice bowls, noodles, tempera, nigiri and a large selection of rolls (even chopped scallop, negitoro, salmon and cream cheese, mango california). You can also choose from a variety of appetizer type dishes and I'd recommend the sashimi salad which was a decent size with a decent portion of sashimi.
The quality of sushi was good, especially for the price.

If you're in the Richmond area and looking for a cheap eats meal this is probably the best personalized "bento box" that I know of.

Ordering from Diamasu is like getting hit by Raffi Torres; Expect dIrty cuts, cheap shots, and a potentially career ending knock out. Not my style of play.

Monday, in my mind,  is the best time to come to Daimasu. Their special is a 15 pc. sashimi boat for around 14.85 (around that). Add that to their large menu selection can definitely supply anything you want or need. The sashimi is fresh and delicious. The nigiri is served in a generous portion. If you are a roll person than you have come to the right place. The menu has many of these to choose from and they are all delicious.

The restaurant is pretty big. We have been here many times and have never seen it even remotely full. It may be large in sq ft...but it is cozy so don't get me wrong. It is a great place to sit down and relax. The staff is not so prompt or even remotely fast. But, they are quite friendly and try to help you out when you need it. Overall, I think it deserves 3.5 stars...

Fresh ingredients, friendly attentive staff and fair prices and a Gundam robot guarding the cash register.

They have this thing called thunder fries, which I find hilarious. It's basically just yam tempura cut into fry shapes and deep fried with the tempura batter. They serve it with ketchup, mayo and plum sauce which just adds to how funny the item is.

The restaurant is huge, I came on a week day and it was nowhere near capacity but it'd be interesting to see it on a busy bustling weekend.

I've been here twice, and both times my experience was not very good. It's not terrible, but if you're in a hurry I would definitely stay away.

The service is extremely slow and servers tend to ignore you even if you are staring them in the eye and waving at them if they're busy. They really need to hire more servers. Today, it took over fifteen minutes for them to give us our check, take the credit card, and give back the card. It took almost five minutes of actively waving them down for them to take our order, and when we had decided to order the special, the waitress gleefully repeated the price ($29.95) at us several times, as if she couldn't believe it. Our table was covered in empty plates almost the entire time, except for when it was, y'know, empty, because we were either waiting for the food or waiting for them to take our order. Customers seem to do more waiting than the waiters.

Most of their food is decent, but in my experience the udon is atrocious. Stay far, far away from it. The first time I had chicken udon, and the second time I had beef udon. Some of the stringiest, toughest meat I have seen in my life was in there. Their sushi and sashimi are fresh, and the tempura was also well done. I have had better agedashi tofu though. For the price, we got a lot of food.

If you have a lot of time to spare and the patience of a saint, decent food for a good price can be found here. Otherwise, try somewhere else.

I have always enjoyed my experiences here. Although there are a few locations of this restaurant I found this one to have consistently good food and service. In other locations the food was lacking.

The atmosphere is nice, and good for groups. Plus the menu is quite extensive and everything I have tried has been great.

Something interesting was their take on the yam tempura, it was served like long fries in a cup with some great dip.

I came here for a business lunch meeting and it was... okay. The woman at the counter acknowledged us right away while dealing with the bills for two customers but she couldn't get the attention of the two men who were meant to seat us. Not a big deal but if you're going to have an in depth business discussion, perhaps the front counter isn't the best place for it.

The food was about average, it was a little annoying that I couldn't substitute something on a boat I wanted and the rest of the service was spotty in their attentiveness. Considering the number of options for sushi, especially in Richmond, I would probably choose to go somewhere else.
