Came here for early dinner with a group of friends and we initially planned to have lunch there. However, they wouldn't take reservation for lunch, but would do it for dinner. So, we ended up there at 5 instead.

I've been to way better places, but for the price it isn't bad as long as you stick to the boats or boxes.

I ordered the Yokohama bento which contains unagi on rice, chicken terriyaki, beansprouts, dynamite roll, tempura, and goma ae.

Unagi: The best part of the bento. There were two thin slices and they were nicely cooked. The rice however seemed meh like it was a bit old.

Chicken Terriyaki: It was ok. Personally, I think they put too much sauce it and it was a bit too thick for my liking.

Beansprouts: I hate beansprouts in general and I only ate a bit. The beansprouts had terriyaki sauce on them because the chicken was on top of the beansprouts so

6 Dynamite rolls: They were ok, not the best, but not the worst and with 6 pieces, you really can't complain.

Tempura: Three shrimps, one yam, and a cucumber I think it was? They were ok, but the batter could've been better. It wasn't as crunchy as it could've been.

Goma ae: Too much dressing, making the spinach way too soggy.

The service: Service was pretty good. Our waitress was pretty attentive and was kind to leave two large jugs of hot green tea on the table for us so we can pour the tea ourselves. The food came out pretty quickly considering there were about 8 people at the table.

The Yokohama bento was $16.95 plus tax so it wasn't too bad considering there were a lot of stuff in it. I'll probably come back if there's a big group and we need something relatively in-expensive.

Yeah, this place has gone downhill.  I went a few weeks ago with a large group of friends since Sushi Garden was packed as usual.  Probably should have just stayed and waited at Sushi Garden instead.

The sushi boats at Daimasu look great in the pictures in the menu but when they come to the table, you realize that the slices of fish are cut a little on the thin side, especially compared to their competition in the area.  Also, the quality and freshness is suspect.  I felt like the fish had a whiff of ammonia which isn't a good thing when it comes to sushi.

If you really have to eat here, I would recommend staying away from the raw stuff, and order the beef teriyaki or chicken teriyaki bowls.  When those came out, it looked pretty good, and at least you don't have to worry about food poisoning.

Went sushi hunting and ended up here. This is one of the few Japanese places that are open Sundays for lunch.  There are piles of other Japanese places along this stretch of Kingsway, but interestingly enough, they're all closed during this part of the week.

Parking is plentiful thanks to the restaurant being part of Station Square.

Inside is the typical wooden decor you'd find at other izakaya-type places.  Service is friendly but they don't quite check often enough.

Their menu selection is strangely a little lacking.  They had sushi rolls and nigiri but most were bunched under Weekday Lunch Specials.  Not sure if you can get them on weekends but I didn't try.

The sashimi here is served in nice thick pieces (more like slabs).  The salmon isn't farmed, and most of the seafood was quite fresh.  The raw shrimp was a bit fishy though, but that was only noticeable towards the end of the meal.

I also had the chance to eat the katsu don.  Some people may not like this, but there is a generous portion of rice.  I personally like this fact because it means I won't leave hungry.  The katsu was nice and crunchy.

    Overall, I left happy.

Not a whole lot of sushi options, and it almost seemed like they didn't want my business as they were very clear about there being a last call at 2:45ish (they close at 3 before re-opening for dinner) even though it was only 2:30.
I had the ramen which was ok but it took them 15 minutes to make it, leaving me with about 10 minutes to gulp it down...

Our goal the other night, #1 daughter and I, was to eat somewhere new.  Japanese was what I was craving, and she is a vegetarian, so we decided we'd go here.  Daughter had been before for the miso ramen but it was new for me.

Very nicely decorated.  Seems very authentic and traditional until you realize that some of the art on the walls is Star Wars.  It seems to blend in so well with the other silk flags hanging on the walls or in frames.  Very cute.

Daughter's miso ramen was hot and looked delicious and she assured me that it was very good.  We shared a yam tempura roll - it was decent.  I ordered a bento box, which was ultimately a LOT of food.

Price was moderate, it definitely reflected what we ate.  I think next time I return I will order something smaller.

    Garbage service.

The server came up to ask us for drinks. Of the seven of us, she took the order of three people and before I could open my mouth to ask for a coke she walked away.
Ten minutes later she returned and asked for drinks again. As she asked I turned to my friend to see if he wanted to split a pitcher. When I turned back, the server was gone. Another ten min and no drinks later a second server comes to take our order for food. Finally I managed to ask for drinks for the remaining 3 ppl in our group; but instead of writing coke she wrote down rum and coke and it took yet another 10min to figure it out.
Half an hour in, my glass came with a flat, sugary substance that tasted like watered down no name cola with added sugar to compensate and a dirty glass.

When we asked for a menu at the end of our meal to get desert, the server gave us the bill. W.e, I didn't want to eat here anyway

The only reason I give this place 2 stars is the food itself was of reasonable quality and the specialty sushi are memorable. Otherwise, garbage.

This Daimasu has a great location. Its very convenient if you don't have time to walk any further or want to look. Those are really the only two reasons to go here.

The food is ok. I'm not going to sugercoat it. I'm not a big fan. It isn't horrible like some others have claimed. It almost seems like the ownership picks and chooses which items on the menu will be good that day. This is probably the case, actually!

The atmosphere is pretty nice. I feel pretty comfortable here.

Just another ho hum sushi place in Vancouver. The positives of this place is that they have boats, which are like super sized bento boxes, for those of us with larger than bento-sized appetites. Another nice thing was that the waitress was really sweet and friendly, unlike many other sushi joints.

Other than this, the sushi was good, not great, the prices were slightly higher than average, and there was a bit of a delay getting all the food out within a reasonable amount of time between dishes.

I primarily go here just for the late night menu, other than that I would not pay their regular prices. There are far better sushi places around the area. The upside is that they do have a lot of selection in their late night menu, quality of the sushi is debatable, oysters are NOT fresh. Ordered it the last I was there and never again! Not even for just $1 an Oyster.

The service is TERRIBLE. The servers were slow and rude, the only friendly ones were the host/hostess. They've always gotten our orders wrong or have forgotten them entirely. I've gotten into an argument with a server because my friend's order never came. She gave a rude reply and said "ITS COMING!" in a raised tone. I yelled back and said "NO ITS NOT! This is our 3rd time asking, go check our order!" .... it came 5 minutes later when all of us were done eating.

I'm surprised I even gave this place 2 stars, all thanks to the cheap late night menu, which btw went up a little!! WOAH?!?!?! Why do I come back here????

It's a decorative, quiet and quaint place. Definitely sets the mood if you're looking for authentic Japanese. I'm never left disappointed with the service, the servers always check on you in a timely manner. Their combo deals are a steal if you have a huge party, but even their single courses are pretty cheap too. Overall their food is great, it's worth checking out!

The service is horribly slow and inattentive. It'll take you forever to get more tea or even the bill.

However one comes here mainly out of proximity sake. If you happen to be in the area the sushi here is decent. It's typical sushi you'd find at any other Chinese run Japanese restaurant. The decor is the basic booths and table s that look like every other Daimasu.

Pricing wise it isn't that bad and the pieces of sushi are large enough to satisfy most.  The combo meals are probably the best deals.

    Eww.

I hadn't been here in a while, but we were lazy after seeing a movie at Metro and decided to come here. It was about 9:30 on a Tuesday night. Plus my friends were so excited about the $1 oysters.

It was not busy at all, but it was late, so that's understandable. We got to choose from the late night menu that has considerably lower prices than their regular menu. I chose one of the meals that came with rice, rolls, chicken karrage, salad and tempura. I love the salad dressing. No one makes it like they do. Seriously. The rest of it was passable.

Here's something that irked me: my friends ordered eight oysters. They were given a platter that had six. When they told the server, she picked up the platter and traded it with another table because she had given them the wrong plate. Eww. Who knows what the other table did to the platter? My friends had moved them around when they were counting. Gross.

There are so many other sushi places I would rather go to...

The former dominant Dai Masu chain of restaurants, and now down to this one (unless you know of any others around town). A Chinese run Japanese restaurant (how many there are in this city!), you definately are not coming here for the quality of the sushi, but more for the value of the meal. They have certain combo sets for a real good deal.

The last time I was here I had a big bowl of ramen and also a glass of coke, all for $5.99, and it was filling. The also serve some pretty big rolls, that are sometimes not put well together. Come for the late night special as I mentioned above, and just remember, your not paying much so do not expect much. They do not open too late, up to around 11:30 PM on a Friday.

The service is a little slow here, especially getting the bill, unless you flag them down, expect to wait. The decor here I do not think has changed over the last 10 years, with the wooden japanese looking booths. At least they have a number of tv's so you can watch sports highlights while you eat!

I like the location and pricing of this place. The service is hit or miss but my husband and I go here every few weeks. The volcano roll/alaska rolls here are amazing! The mochi dessert is very well done here.

Best known for it combo variety, this place is a solid sushi joint.

Lots of bento boxes, sushi boats with combinations to please any taste. You could eat a different combo everyday for a month I'd imagine.

Quality is standard fare, and service can be slow and unattentive at times, but a respectable place to grab a quick sushi bite while shopping at metrotown mall.

Since when is it acceptable for a restaurant to have DUCK TAPE repaired seats? If you are looking for awesome sushi in the Metrotown area avoid Daimasu like the plague and go to Sushi Garden across the road on Kingsway instead. Diamsasu hidden away next to the Metrotown Mall is old, tired, & mediocre at best. They have a Tokyo Combo that came with limp, overcooked beanshoots and the smallest fattiest & nastiest chicken teriyaki I have ever seen in the lower mainland area! Order a cosmopolitan martini and it is made completely wrong and comes with ice.  Judging by the other posts this is a restaurant that many years ago was a great place & needs to wake up. Overpriced, tired and mediocre!
