The Daily Grind has become a regular part of my morning routine!
Great coffee, great price ($2.46 for a large) and attentive staff who remembers who you are and what you take! I haven't tried out their food yet but every time I'm there I'm tempted by the choice of sandwiches, salads and pastries. Give this little independent coffee shop a chance and I guarantee you won't regret it! One large dark roast to go please! -

Aside from Atlantic News, this is the best spot to go magazine hunting in the city. 'Daily Grind' has all manner of magazines including a pretty extensive political/current affairs section.
Once you've stocked up on the magazines, there's also a cute little coffee/tea shop in the back of this store. Not especially homey, but more convenient than anything else. Nice selection of fresh tea as well.
The staff at 'Daily Grind' do an exceptional job as well. Don't let this seemingly sterile environment fool you! If magazine selection and coffee/tea are your bent then you'll love this little café! -

If you're downtown and need to kill some time, the Daily Grind is a pretty good choice because you can buy some reading material up front, and then relax with a coffee or a sweet or a sandwich in the back. I say "relax" somewhat guardedly, because with its wooden tables and chairs, it's not exactly the comfiest spot in town. Still, it's usually pretty quiet and you can count on not being disturbed by a lot of other hoo-ha happening around you.
The store's magazine selection is excellent, and they seem to have one of the largest selections of "guy-mags" around, by which I mean not just porn but all those other things boys like to read about involving engines and sports gear and such. -

I'm unsure how I've gone so long without so much as noticing the Daily Grind, but I find comfort in my recent awakening. Its yet another downtown plethora of print that makes it easy to keep up with all your favourite subjects.
Travel, art, design, health-- the list goes on, and the Daily Grind has it all. Not quite as thorough as Atlantic News, and slightly lacking in subject labeling, the space stretches way back and does offer a whole lotta reads.
The real kicker is the sandwich bar at the back. Somewhat secluded from the rest of the shop, customers can sit down with a smoothie, panini, wrap, sweet treat or hot bevie and get it on with some written word. Its a perfect pairing, and with the utter YUM of the Daily Grind Smoothie... (strawberry banana is my pick!) I know this is a stop I will make again soon. -

While the stock and selection at Daily Grind can be rivalled at some of the other magazine and new stands, the homey feel inside, which is due in part to the little cafe in the corner, is unique.
None of the staff seem to care how long you take to browse through the stock, I'm sure they work at the Daily Grind for a reason and when no one is in the store they read magazines cover to cover like I do. The store is open and roomy, which the previously mentioned cafe at the rear that sells treats and quick meals.
This is a great place to pick up reading material if you have a long bus ride (the number 1 stops right across the street) or are planning a day to sit and read on a park bench in the neighbouring Public Gardens. -

Need a magazine?
The Daily Grind Newstand has the largest magazine collection in downtown Halifax. They have every expected subject for magazines and a few extras. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Daily Grind also has a Cafe section. It has a nice tea selection and its muffin's are alright. But lets just say I'm not crazy about it. Firstly it is in the back of the Newstand. Given the fact that the majority of the cafe's in downtown Halifax have a great few of the city street, the Daily Grind's cafe section already loses a few points. But if you wanted to pick up a magazine and buy a tea the same time, you can.
I go to the Daily Grind for the huge magazine collection. I always have a relaxing and fun experience when I go there. I could take or leave the Cafe section but its nice to have as an option. If you need a magazine and don't know where to go, the Daily Grind will be the best bet to have exactly what you're looking for. -

The Daily Grind is a great cafe/magazine stand on Spring Garden Road. If you have an interest, The Daily Grind has a magazine that covers it. From art to sports, music to day time television, the magazines are clearly organized and easily accessible.
Best of all, the staff are usually pretty cool about killing time reading a few magazines. I don't recommend spending an afternoon browsing all your interests for free, but sampling is generally accepted here.
Past the Newstand is a small cafe that is very convenient and affordable. The atmosphere will not excite you, but it's a great spot to grab a bagel on your morning commute or to read your purchased magazines over a light snack.
As I mentioned, staff are friendly and very helpful with offering suggestions and updating you on your favorite magazines (these days, this usually involves breaking the bad news that your favorite magazine has folded). While I have occasionally been misinformed about the fate of my regular reads, they are generally on the ball.
If you're looking for a spot to have a light read and a light snack around our fair city, The Daily Grind is the place for you! -

The Daily Grind is one of those independent coffee shops that sadly seem to be falling by the wayside in the wake of chain stores moving in.
Small but quaint, The Daily Grind's coffee area is tucked behind a newsagent shop that stocks hard-to-find and international publishings. If you want to read it, The Daily Grind has it - or will get it for you. After you've made your selection, wander back to the café area and order yourself a house blend coffee. Pick out a pastry or, if it's near lunch, try one of their fantastic sandwiches or salads.
The Daily Grind is quiet; the perfect place to get lost in a new newspaper or periodical. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, which is a must for any coffee shop.
Considering there are at least five other coffee shops within two blocks, The Daily Grind has been doing something right in order to stick around when faced with competition. If you ask me, The Daily Grind does everything right. Good coffee, good food, good reading material - what else is there in life?! -

This place is Queen of the magazines - from yoga, music to porn, there is something for every reader at The Daily Grind. Plus, they sell corner store goods, like cigarettes and sodas.
In the back, there is a little coffee/tea spot, with lunch goods as well. When I went by today there was a large assortment of food: soups, fresh sammies, bean salads, squares, muffins and bagels.
They also have loose, organic teas as well as lots of java bevies. I didn't get a chance to try anything from the café, as I was there primarily magazine hunting, but it looked like a good spot to grab a quick bite. -

Definitely a good spot to stop if you're looking for a magazine - any magazine, really. They probably have it. The cafe in back, however, is not the greatest, or at least the drinks I've had there in the past have not been. I've had both coffees and Italian sodas, which are a total indulgence for me. (Umm, soda with *cream* in it? Yes, please!) Neither have ever hit the spot. The magazine selection in front, however, will almost always come through. I especially like the regional periodicals they carry, which are hard to find.
