Being that I come to the Fox pretty regularly I've always walked by here with much curiosity. Was finally able to try it out post Sesame Street live over the weekend. It's a little pricier, sure, but I really enjoyed my meal and found it comparable in quality to other Italian joints of similar price points in the area.
Started things out with a bread basket. Now, I usually don't mention the bread but holy cow this bread was good. Warm, crusty french bread and really good butter. I could have eaten the whole bread basket for dinner and been happy. But of course I ordered an entree, a great plate of fettucini bolognese. The pasta was fresh, the sauce had great flavor and wasn't super meaty (I actually like that in a bolognese). It was the perfect light dish that I was hoping for when I sat down. It also came with a great tossed salad of mixed greens and some other veggies with an italian dressing. A fantastic start to the meal.
Everyone else at my table was equally thrilled with their meals. I tried my aunt's salmon with lobster sauce and that was really good. My mom got the cannelloni da Edoardoand which I tried and it was really good, although she did say it got very salty towards the end and having tried it I can see how that would be the case. I didn't try my uncle's veal saltimboca but he cleaned his plate and said it was excellent. Even my little cousin ate up all her salad and loved her spaghetti.
Speaking of the kid, this isn't a very kid friendly place but they were still accommodating towards her. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and the hostess managed to squeeze us in within 10 minutes even though we didn't have a reservation (I would definitely recommend a reservation. We just decided to go there on a whim).
All in all a great spot to grab a bite before or after a show at the Fox, or if you're downtown for any other reason. Looking forward to my return visit already!Listed in: Detroit Delights, Italiano!, Special Occasions!

My wife and I went yesterday (Tuesday evening). At 6: 30 pm there were only 3 other tables be used. So we got right in. At 7:30 pm we were the only people in the place. No game in town that night or Fox show. They do say it gets busy, but sure was not when we were there. Personally I believe it is a little overpriced. My wife though loved the Salmon with Lobster sauce. Cooked well and the sauce was delicious. I had the Americana Pizza. A thin crust pizza a tad overdone. Not my favorite, but it was OK. We had a bottle of the Merlot house wine which was good, but not worth the $30.00.
Service was good. Waitress was very nice. Only spotted three people in the whole restaurant working. Chef, waitress, and looked like a dishwasher. If they would have had more people come in it would have been crazy. They I assume knew they where not going to be busy.
We did get a table right by the window that looked to Comerica Park. Of course no game and nothing really to see on Woodward.
We did not have an appetizer because they seemed very pricey.
I may go back, but would definitely want a coupon or know that they have a special. I would not feel I got my monies worth if I would have paid full price. We did have a $50.00 groupon coupon that we bought for for $25.00
We did love the Italian music.
Very nice atmosphere for talking to others. -

I recently went to Fox Town with the GF, her brother and his GF for dinner. We pass this place almost every time we come downtown and am sorry to say that after our experience we'll probably continue to overlook it.
Fox Town's issue is their price points versus the quality of what you're getting on the plate. We started off with two appetizers, the sausage and peppers alongside an order of their calamari. It's really hard to mess up sausage and peppers (unless you use low quality sausage) but at $11 this app is pricey. The calamari was very good and a better value versus the portion size for $14, very fresh and lite!
Looking over their menu nothing really jumped out at me so i decided to lean on my guilty pleasure and order the Veal Saltimboca which was priced at $27. Generally if I am at a restaurant that claims to be Italian, I expect them to hit it out of the park with their veal dishes. The veal was a lil rough and a you definitely had to go at it a bit with your knife. The flavours were subdued and just nothing to write home about.
The service was just ok, it's a smaller dining room but once again at this price point I do not expect to have servers hitting the back of my chair multiple time.
All in all I would have to say this is one to pass on.
The restaurant is in need of a shake up: menu, service plus layout. Overall competition at this price point has picked up in Detroit over the last couple of years, Fox Town needs to adjust otherwise they will slip into mediocrity... -

Was not worth over $120 for 2 pepole. I had the veal parm it was tough and not pasta side it came with mashed potatoes. My husband had steak which was overcooked and flavorless. Will not go back. And the restroom was filthy and down a lot of stairs where the employees hide and smoke...

Kinda surprised that this spot has yet to be reviewed. I used to do a lot of catering from this spot for work, as well as a bunch of work events here, as well as a number of dates....
It didnt take me long to realize that this was one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit.
I first gotta say, in addition to being a wingoligist and a riboligist, I am also a calarmarioligist....so pretty much every new dining experience I test out the calamari, to simply see if it is better than the calamari at FoxTown---5 years later...NOBODY has been able to touch them. Literally the best calamari I have ever had. Ive seen this calamari make people that had never tried, or simply didnt like calamari become believers....
Its fried with a light batter and and sits in a butter sauce with banana peppers...I cant do this place justice with my words on this screen, but trust this...I am headed back to Detroit in a month or so, and this spot will be among the first that I hit.
Aside from the calamari, there are a bunch of great things about the restaurant.
The location is kind of a gift and a curse, it sits right next to the historic Fox Theatre, and right across the street from Comerica Park (where the Tigers play), and so while it gets a lot of traffic passing by, its ackward position makes it difficult for folks to quickly make the turn to head in the parking lot.
The windows are huge, so on a Friday night you get a front and center view of "Woodward street" and the foolishness that comes with the city dwellers...I like it, it gives the place a bit of character.
This is a white linen spot, but not fancy to the point where you feel uncomfortable, more so "nice" to the point where you might say, "damn, I am really feeling this place"...
The service has always been outstanding, and they did a great job of taking care of clients as well as dates...but i spent so much damn money in this spot, I guess I kinda deserved it?
Their 'meat bolganese" ( i know i am butchering the name/spelling) is phenomenal. They do a chicken dish that has lemon/capers..that is absolutely amazing.
Lasagna, anytype of pizza, and most notably their salads are extremely impressive. The house dressing is so phenomenal that it makes you wonder why you arent a vegetarian....(that is until you taste the grilled chicken that they sit right on top of those greens..smirk).
I love this place. No really like I love this place so much I want to marry it...
I could keep on, but I think the best thing for you to do is just experience this for yourself....weirdly, its still a hidden jewel in the city.. -

I have a soft spot in my heart cause this was a first date spot for my husband and I. But the food has always been wonderful and the service decent...
Okay for the Detroit area pretty damn good. But the town seems to lack happy people that want to give you great service...
Go figure they have some troubles.
The prices are a bit high for what they serve, but there are not many options around. It is a prime location...
Esspically when going to the Fox, State, Gem Theatre... or a Tigers game
But I eat hot dogs at games.... so //
Do call to see if they are open, we have had times of weird hours and left hungry. -

On the night of the Kid Rock concert, the husband and I foolishly thought we could have dinner downtown before the show. We walked into several places and it was pure chaos everywhere we went. Duh!
We landed at DaEdoardo Fox Town Grille. The wait was initially 40 minutes. There were 2 other groups ahead of us, a table for 2 and 3. The manager got creative and offered to put all 5 of them at a table for 6. He told them they had separate tables to seat them if they'd like, but suggested the bigger table as well. They went for it, which meant our wait ended up being about 10 minutes. Awesome!
The place was hoppin' with a big birthday party, and lots of people hanging out at the bar. I was really impressed with our waiter. There was no doubt that he was busting his ass and doing a great job handling the birthday party and his other tables. On a night like this, we totally understood waiting a little longer than usual for drinks and food. Despite any delay, he always made eye contact with us and acknowledged that he was on his way with whatever we ordered (drinks, food, etc). I ordered a glass of wine. He brought over a wine glass with a mini-carafe of wine. He noticed that there was something on the glass and immediately went back to get a new one. When he returned, he had another mini-carafe of wine. So, I was given 2 glasses of wine. That was pretty awesome! I certainly didn't expect to receive a free glass of wine because there was a spec on the glass, but I definitely won't turn it down!
I ordered the Chilean Seabass with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. OOOO.MMMM.GGGG. The Seabass melted in my mouth. It was heavenly. The mashed potatoes were room temperature, but I love potatoes and understood that they were slammed. It wasn't worth mentioning. They were still very good. The asparagus was cooked perfectly.
The husband ordered the Filet Mignon, which came with mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. He liked the Filet, but felt like it needed a little more flavor. I think if he ate the mushrooms, it would've added some flavor. I ate them instead, and they were delicious.
My only disappointment was the bathroom. It was totally trashed and really gross. The floors were nasty, toilet paper out and all over the place. I was really surprised to see the bathroom in this condition at a high-end, high-dollar restaurant. This is definitely a time when having a bathroom attendant would've been very beneficial! I'm hoping it was just a result of a crazy dinner crowd.
This wasn't the meal we thought we were going to have, and definitely didn't plan on spending so much! ha! As the husband said, "I guess this is date night!" We really enjoyed our meals and the service was really good in light of the chaos. We're both happy that we this is where we landed and enjoyed a great meal. -

Not only was the food awesome, but this spot has a great ambiance created by the soft lighting and music. It was an oasis from the craziness outside as the theatre prepared for a show, the Tigers game got started, and Detroit was bustling. Not the typical over the top Italian decor that accompanies such a menu. Modern, clean lines....awesome.
Reasonably priced, delicious drinks. Great wine list.
Portabello mushroom appetizer seasoned just right with rosemary, garlic & balsamic vinegar was a hit. When the mushrooms were gone, dipping the fresh, warm bread into the remaining sauce was brilliant.
Fresh side salad had a delicious light Italian dressing.
Americana pizza....BEST crust ever. Big perfect mushrooms.
The tortellini "Marcella Hazan" was rich and flavorful. Huge portion.
All around reasonably priced, great meal. -

Our experience at the Foxtown Grilled was a mixed bag. The food was delicious but quite pricey, and the waiter was terrible. There were literally 4 tables with guests while we were there, but our server was slow and inattentive. He was slow to refill our drinks, slow to remove empty dishes from the table, and slow to respond to requests.
Also, I wanted to have a Caesar side salad instead of mixed greens, which he said was fine but there was an additional charge. What he did not say, however, was that the additional charge was $8 for that change! It would have been nice to have that charge detailed out; I was expecting perhaps $1 or $2 for the substitution.
Also, their wine list is fairly extensive, but only if you want to buy it by the bottle.
All in all, probably wouldn't recommend it based on the poor service and pricing. -

Without the pull of Fox Theatre or a Tiger game to bring people to this area on Woodward Avenue midweek, it is a ghost town by 6:30 p.m. With that said, my son and I were the only ones present in the restaurant. The calamari was worth the trip downtown. The best in the city. My meal was mediocre at best. Whole wheat penne with shrimp and overcooked/limpy asparagus. Did I actually pay $27 for it? My son enjoyed his filet/mashed potatoes and beautifully prepared thick stalked asparagus. I know this place bustles when an event is happening but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

We had dinner at DaEdoardo Fox Town Grille before attending a performance at the Opera House. We were able to park the car at the opera house and walk to DaEdoardo's which was only a few blocks away. We were a little concerned about the restaurant from some of the previous reviews we had read, but all four of us (one of whom was Italian) were pleasantly surprised with the outcome of our meal. We started with soup, the minestrone was fabulous, along with the warm bread we could have stopped there and we would have been satisfied, but then ordered the salmon and a chicken dish with a white wine sauce which were both delicious as well. We were filled to the rim, but decided we had a little more room in our dessert tube, so Linda, our very pleasant waitress who gave great recommendations, suggested we order the carrot cake. It came warm and had a delicious caramel sauce drizzled on top which was delectable. We wanted to share one piece among four of us, but were all fighting over the last morsels of crumbs. This meal was a great start to a very pleasant evening and we wanted to share our experience with others.
