I've eaten at Dae-Ji downtown and also at their branch in Lougheed several times. For less than $10 you can have a warm, very filling, delicious meal (albeit laden with calories). Every time I go I always take 1 cutlet home and have it for dinner or even lunch the next day because the portions are so huge!
I recommend The pork cutlet with curry and also the pork with gravy and cheese. I've always gone with friends (Korean, Japanese and Canadian) an everyone agrees it's a hit! (Especially for those of us who are strapped for cash).
The interior and washrooms could do with a bit of renovation but it's a cheap and cheerful place and the staff are always pleasant. We'll be back. -

So rumour had it here Dae-Ji makes a decent cutlet, so there was only 1 way to find out.
Parking is all metered here, which is bad. However, there may be a loading bay or two in the area.
The interior looked a little worn down, but it felt nice and bright. Mostly because of the orange walls. The restuarant was almost completely full.. of Koreans. Authenticity test - check. The tables are all small. The largest group you can fit comfortably here is probably 5.
Staff were pretty friendly. The eating area was quite narrow. The staff kept bumping into me. I was sitting at the end of a table though.
Their classic Dae-Ji cutlet is 2 pieces of breaded pork, crispy on the outside but nice and tender on the inside, and covered in gravy. The dishes come with salad (shredded lettuce with dressing), a bit of macaroni + cheese sauce, corn, and rice. It tasted like comfort food. Portion size was decent, and everything tasted good, including the rice. I also tried some of the spicy cutlet. This is the same cutlet, but covered with mozzarella cheese and a bit of spicy sauce. Also tasty.
One thing I noticed while eating here was that a lot of the other (Korean) customers were going for the fried chicken. Maybe someone can chime in on this one.
Overall, my friends and I left happy. -

No doubt a hearty meal, because c'mon, we're talking generous portions of carbs and deep fried stuff here! However, my overall impression was how bland everything was.
I had today's special of Chicken Cutlet Curry on Rice + miso soup ($7.99). The soup was more salty than it was miso-y; and I didn't appreciate the dried green onions - it was more decorative, no flavour.
The chicken cutlet was deep fried (duh) and smothered with Asian style curry. The chicken was tender, but I could taste the grease - too oily; and something about either the chicken or the batter or the oil tasted off. And I swear I had better curry out of a Glico box! I don't know how to describe it - it was so bland (probably diluted down with corn starch?!). The potato pieces in the curry were nice and mushy. Rice is rice. Slaw was fresh, but not a fan of the mayo based dressing.
Paying almost $10 after tax and tips for cheap carbs and cheap quality - will not return.
Cash and debit only. -

I drove up to Vancouver, Canada to check out this other country.
I was browsing around downtown with the dude to find something to eat. We saw this sign that said PORK CUTLET. I thought instantly .. WHAT THE??!?? The dude wanted to try it out.
We entered the spot, pretty small. We ordered 2 rice plates. The menu was very simple.. but the food was so good! I ordered the curry chicken cutlet with rice and this spicy kind of macaroni. Everything down to the sauce was simple yet delicious.
I dont know if I can find something similar in San Francisco, but man, what a meal to welcome me to Canada. -

Dae-Ji is the place for me when I'm looking for quick and filling food near my studio.
These boys fry up a mean Kimchi Fried Rice with enough left-overs to sate a rumbling tummy for hours and hours and hours.
They also provide plenty of cutletted meat with accompaniments of rice, veggies, hot saucyness, curries and the best playmates to any meal, eggs! -

In town for business from San Diego and dropped by here late...it was AWESOME. Great food, person behind counter spoke very little English but wow! We had a great exchange and both laughed ... Nice place.

3.5 for a simple hole in the wall Korean restaurant.
I've eaten here 4 times and usually for lunch. This place is pretty busy during lunch time so if I am eating here, I try to stop by around 11AM.
The portions are a good size and the price is very affordable. When I feel like a heavier meal, I'd order one of their lunch specials or the kimchi fried rice. It depends on the day, but my dishes are usually a little oily but overall satisfying.Listed in: Budget Dining Downtown

This place is always full during lunch time. The people here are great, and the food portions are just incredible. Its a great place to get lunch for around $8 bucks, however it can feed two people (you and a mini version of you).
I usually eat the whole thing, and drowse off in class, but atleast i have a smile on my belly.
They are known for their pork cutlets, but seriously all their food is good. Also they are very sanitary, which you wouldnt think based on the look of their sign board, but have no fear. The open kitchen allows you to see whats going on. Try this hidden gem, its tiny. -

I was on my way to Japadog and it was way too packed so I remembered I wanted to go back to Dae-Ji. Tried the kimchi fried rice with miso soup. A+ meal. The miso soup is probably the best I have had from any takeout spot and believe me, I'm like the king of takeout. The rice is fiery red and full of flavor. It also has some bits of pork in it.
The side dishes, salad and pickled something again were very good.
While not the prettiest restaurant, the food hits the spot. If you haven't been here yet, go now.
I'm off to brush my teeth, I smell like kimchi.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Great little fried cutlet joint. Chicken, Pork, Fish, deep fried with some kind of sauce on it. Rice and Salad and Miso soup on the side. Everything under $10. I love the "do just one thing and do it well" mentality. There's not much else here, except for the kimchi fried rice with egg, which is also a great vegetarian option.

I'm a big fan of Japanese tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), so I was intrigued when I saw a Korean pork cutlet place. It was great! I had the kimchi roll pork cutlet: kimchi wrapped in pork and fried. The sauce looked a bit dodgy but was delicious. Spicy pickles and salad on the side with rice made for a great dinner.
