How does one describe the space that is DaDe? Cool, hip, eclectic, its got such a funky vibe. Funky isn't even the right word to use, it's not "cool enough." DaDe feels ahead of funky. Is there even a word for it yet? I've always recognized DaDe by the wooden/vine horses out front. Those life-sized intertwined pieces of branch are hard to miss. Branch isn't the right word for them, really, you should just go check them out yourself. You'll see what I mean.

The space is split into two sides. Once side works as a gallery/event space and the other houses all kinds of art pieces and imported furniture. The gallery side has two huge garage doors on either end that slide up. They're actually my favourite part about the space. This must've been an old mechanic's garage or something similar in a past life.

Right now, there are some fun couches and chairs that rock in all different directions and have pieces that fold up and down, creating first a chair, then an ottoman, and whatever else you can fold them into.

The exhibit up right now is by Danielle Bartlette. The paintings are a colourful mixture of abstract and icons from a bar she once worked at. I love icons, and I love that they've found their way into her art pieces. I also love that, though the furniture is imported from elsewhere, the artwork is all from local artists.

Go spend some time at DaDe, you can help but walk out just feeling cooler for being there.

I went in around November, and was pleasantly surprised when I was offered a glass of wine by the staff (what service!) ... I was then overwhelmed by the variety of treasures available here.  From the unique and inspired work of modern artists, to gorgeously-restored antiques (some of which are 300+ years old).

Personally, the antiques were the draw.  So I wandered over to the other half of the gallery, and instantly, I fell in love with an apothecary cabinet imported from China and wonderfully restored -- the rich, dark wood worn silky-smooth by time.

Thankfully, my man noticed me admiring the piece.  It appeared in my living room for Christmas.  By far my most prized possession, it now sits regally in the room like an old friend, its presence golden and warm.

(I plan to go back and find some friends for it in over next few years.)

I'm not sure what to say other than if I had some serious coin to drop, I may have bought half of the items in this store during my first visit.  Even the website is cool.  Paying a visit to DaDe is worth your time if you appreciate viewing unique and stylish furniture and art.  If you have extra money to spend on home decor, even better!

By the way, I'm excited to announce that this is my 100th review!  I love Yelp.  :-)

    Holy Gallery space Batman!

Great new showroom idea pairing art and glass pieces with furniture and featuring it all in a gallery space.

This is a very nice location with floor to ceiling windows, cement floors and a nice huge showroom where you can see all the pieces very easily.

The paintings here are mostly abstract works in many format sizes; however I wasn't that interested in them, but what really blew me away was the furniture pieces, especially the natural wooden cabinets.

According to Greg the General Manager of the Lab these pieces were designed by he and the owner and the wood is elm that is over 200 years old. I believe he said that the architectural pieces are from reclaimed older villages in northern Beijing and they have been left outside by their craftsman for 2 years to become cured.  This ensures a very resilient piece of wood that has withstood all kinds of weather.

These pieces are so beautiful, they are like art pieces in themselves, and their natural finished look is so clean and nostalgic with a slight Japanese feel.

They have really nice loungers and sofas sets from Germany here as well in great geometric shapes that would accent any home very nicely.

The highlight of Dade for me are the handmade glass pieces, these are done by a group of glass artists that work form their garage studio here in Calgary. So many of these pieces are super organic looking, and would sparkle nicely as a table or coffee table centerpiece.

One month into the new space, I was really impressed with Dade's new shopping concept and experience; the selection here is of impeccable taste and will surely please that modern urban collector.

Love this gallery, been there a few times and it's one of the unique spots to go to in Inglewood. They always have cool pieces (furniture, wall art, sculptures) and owners are very welcoming and good to chat with.  Definitely recommended.
