Walking into the place, it feels like you've just walked into someone's big house. With a cozy atmosphere, and big fireplace in the middle, the dining area was a nice place for a late dinner with co-workers.
I wasn't too impressed with the food. I got the Gnocchi with Gorganzola, and it did not taste one bit like Gorganzola. It was liquidy and didn't have any cheese flavour. Completely not what I expected. My co-worker's penne was alright, but still a little plain.
However, someone else also ordered a pizza, and it looked amazing. And from @DineoutGal's review, seems like something worth a try.
Their steaks are also grilled in a charcoal grill where the grill gets lowered down on the charcoals to adjust for temperature. We only knew this because we saw her turning a big wheel at the back and didn't know what it was for. This could have been advertised more.
The dessert was wonderful. Tiramusu was soft and creamy. And I was told (and it looked like) the gelato was really good.
One random thing I saw was the waitress using a actual cordless iron to iron down the table cloths while setting up other tables. I thought this was odd, and something patrons shouldn't be seeing. It was only 10pm.
The server was really friendly and nice, but our entree took over 20 mins (after appetizers) to get to us. I didn't get apps , so it felt like much longer.Listed in: Winterpeg!

Once a Pasta La Vista, WOW! Hospitality Concepts tries again to unleash the possibility of a true Italian restaurant. I was impressed with the decor, lighting and ambiance. The restaurant was clean and I felt welcome. I was greeted by the server who seemed very knowledgeable and comfortable with the food and its ingredients. Although we did not order wine, the wine list looked extensive primarily emanating from Italy.
Bread - The bread was fresh and consisted of both white and olive inspired slices. It came with an olive oil and/or pesto type sauce. It was of excellent quality.
Starter - Caprese Salad. The salad was simple and fresh. Hard to really make a mistake with this one. Although, I did find the portion a bit small and thus it would be difficult to share.
Entree - Veal Cheeks. The veal cheeks were dry and in a sauce the "basically" stuck to the meat. They were over done and sat on a bed of gnocchi inspired shapes and some spinach. Unfortunately, it was a loser.
A side note....
They have what looks to be an amazing wood-burning oven for pizzas. Something I would most definitely try next time. The downside was the ventilation was poor and thus there were at times a very heavy smoke in the main seating area. If you have smoke-related allergies...stay away! -

I have to say that I like this place better than Pasta la Vista (the restaurant that Dacquisto replaced). If it was possible, I'd give it 2.5 stars - mostly because I had higher expectations of this restaurant since it's operated by WOW! Hospitality.
WOW! did a good job renovating this place, which is located in the middle of the south end suburbia explosion near McGillivray and Kenaston. It's in the middle of this large lot near the Canadian Tire and Co-Op Gas Station. The interior uses darker wood tones. The lounge is pretty cozy to sit in but the dining room is just as nice. I think the tables by the fireplace are the best seats to dine in.
My fav thing to eat here would be their wood-fired pizzas. They're about $10-$13 for a small pizza - good enough to share as an appy, or a light dinner for one.
They use a sourdough crust...I'm not a fan of sourdough normally but in this crust, you can't really taste it so that's good. It does give the crust a more chewier texture. I really liked the roasted chicken pizza and the wild mushroom and Taleggio cheese. The roasted chicken used rosemary and had good flavour. I really liked the wild mushroom and Taleggio as this soft white cheese has a really strong aroma (similar smell to Parmigiano-Reggiano) to it but melts beautifully on the pizza and has a great tang. It gives this otherwise, boring vegetarian pizza a great memorable flavour. Whereas the roasted pepper and artichoke pizza was definitely missing something....I love those toppings but maybe a bit more spice or a different cheese would add some oomph to this very blah pizza.
Tried the seasonal Georgia Strait B.C. "Honey" mussels which is prepared in a different daily sauce. I had these delicious and plump mussels at Terrace Fifty-Five (also owned by WOW!) last month and fell in love with them. I was looking forward to trying these again but have to say that I was very disappointed with the preparation that it came in. It was prepared in the basic, white wine and herb sauce, which is classic and great usually. Except this time, they melted about a pound of butter in the sauce, that is unfortunate because as much as I love butter, this really took away from the beauty of those mussels. The mussels are at market price, but I was surprised that within a month's time, I was charged $14 for a pound of these mussels at Terrace and then $16 at Dacquisto. And I have to add that the portions between the two restaurants varied drastically. These are larger than normal mussels so you're not going to get as much as you would normally, but at Terrace, I comfortably shared with 2 other people whereas at Dacquisto, there were 7 mussels.
You can get many of their pastas in half sizes as well as the regular dinner size. The spaghetti alla carbonara ($15) with pancetta, garlic, egg and Pecorino cheese is a very rich pasta dish...it was very good but it also makes you feel very guilty because this is not a "light" dish by any means.
Chicken & Wild Mushroom Papardelle ($22) has sautéed chicken with wild mushrooms in a pesto cream sauce. Once again, another straight to your hips pasta dish - it was recommended by the server who touted it as one of the most popular pastas on the menu. I can see why, it's rich and creamy, and fairly pedestrian. I didn't find that there was much flavour to the pesto cream sauce or the sauteed chicken; I wouldn't order this again.
As for the entrees, they were okay. The grilled salmon with a citrus pesto ($22) came with tuscan fries or spaghetti pomodoro and seasonal vegetables. I opted for the fries since it sounded so delicious - fried in peanut oil and tossed with fresh herbs, garlic and Parmesan Reggiano...so how can you go wrong with that? Well, first of all it was over fried and bland. I didn't taste any herbs or Parmesan Reggiano. Very disappointing. This was a very under seasoned dish and the fish was slightly overcooked (a sin when it comes to seafood).
Their bread basket is pretty yummy - very soft and addictive bread with extra virgin olive oil to dip in and an olive and cannellini bean tapenade.
This place is open on a Sunday, which is nice since many restaurants are closed on that day. Service is pretty friendly albeit a bit slow on the Sunday.
This place seems to be family friendly as children are welcome. Saw lots of big groups as well as couples dining there. -

Tried this restaurant in part with a gift card from a friend, yes the decor was done well, and I had high expectations of WOW but this restaurant did not deliver. The price was above what we should have paid for the quality and not near what our expectations were, they did not deliver, so we will not be back.
