Da Tandoor is not a perfect restaurant, but it's endearing and satisfying. And unlike India Curry House, Da Tandoor is open on Sundays. I'm thankful for its existence in Victoria.
Some highlights:
*The naan - fresh, delicious, and plentiful
*The chickpea masala dish we always order - is super-delicious
*The portions - with one curry and one bread per person, it's rare to go home hungry
*The samosas are large and flavourful
*The complimentary papadom is light, crispy, fresh, delicious, and served with a variety of chutneys prior to your meal
Some lowlights:
*The malai kofta is too dry and pales in comparison to that most Vancouver curry joints.
*the decor hasn't been updated since the restaurant opened, but this is potentially part of its charm. -

We went to Da Tandoor because a friend recommended the place. The servers were impolite and very slow. To top it off, the chef doesn't know how to cook Baigan Bhartha, we got some cut up eggplant. Butter Chicken an Shahi Paneer had virtually the same gravy. The prices are unreasonable as well. The atmosphere is nonexistent. A place to avoid. Also, I am Indian so I know a few things about this cuisine.

I don't eat AT Da Tandoor, but have gotten take out every 2 months or more for 20 years. I'm no expert, but I have not found their addicting red curry sauce any where else- mostly all yellow and usually at other restaurants too harsh and acid tasting. Their red sauce is sweet. The food is consistent and their estimation for pic-up is right on every time. At the end of the day, it's personal preference, but i've been eating this food a long time and i can't find any where else that tastes as good.

The service is fairly slow but polite. The food is decent, on par with some of the indian buffets in South Vancouver but not really amazing. I found the sauce in several of our dishes was exactly the same, a few things were a little too salty. The prawns were surprisingly good (not over-cooked). I would do this again as there are few other good options for Indian food in Victoria but it's not at the top of my list for where to eat here.

Of the Indian restaurants in Victoria this is the best! The shrimp masala is excellent as well as the garlic naan bread! Downfall-there is no parking so you have to find parking on the street! You should make a reservation!
