I cannot understand for the life of me why basic notary services in Canada (or at least BC) cost so darn much. $40-50 seems to be about average for someone to spend 2 minutes with you, check your driver's license and watch you sign something, before signing it themselves and affixing a seal they bought for $75. Oh, and you probably need an appointment for this ("We can't get you in this week. How about next Monday?" Are you frickin' kidding me?).
In the US (yep, I'm a yank), banks offer this for their customers for free on a walk-in basis.
Anyhoo, I searched far and wide and finally found Mehta and Associates who, for a mere $25, gave me 3 minutes of friendly service. Highway robbery? Absolutely. But a relative bargain. I'd use their services again, but I hope I don't need to.
