Review from Rick B.
I'm always cautious of any establishment that feels the need to append "Irish Pub" to its name - that raises the spectre of the sort of "Oirish" theme pub once parodied by Al Murray's "Pub Landlord".
But this establishment is a well located venue in downtown Ottawa that doesn't feel as though it has appeared out of the back of the fake-pubs-are-us lorry at all. -

This place is all about location, location, location (fews step from parliarment hill). They have a nice beer selection and some free oysters on Friday. This place is just not for me, the patio is too small and inside it gets crowed and way too noisy. Its no longer for me.

Bought tickets for this place for New Year's as I was visiting friends in Ottawa. It's a pretty nice bar, actually really big if you include the basement. The men's washroom is a pain in the ass to get to, but the staff was good. I thought the drink prices were reasonable, but I'm not that familiar with Ottawa drink prices. The manager did us a solid as someone in our party couldn't make it and he bought back the ticket, which a lot of other places definitely would not have done.
As an aside, downtown Ottawa is pretty dead for New Year's. Was kind of odd I thought. -

On almost any night when Parliament is sitting you'll probably run into either an MP, Senator or journalist at this watering hole.
D'arcy McGee's has the perfect corner staked out -- located along Sparks Street where the pedestrian mall meets Elgin Street and just steps from everything in downtown Ottawa.
It's a great place for a Guinness or whatever you fancy after work but it actually has a really good breakfast too! One of the yummiest omelettes I've ever had was at D'arcy's.
If you go when there's a live band play, which is often, you'll probably find the place quite packed and especially after a late night vote in Parliament. There is seating downstairs so if you walk in and see the place packed, ask if they can seat your crew downstairs.
Food, service and atmosphere are all great and you just can't beat the location. -

I'm generally not a huge fan of Irish themed pubs because I often find them bland, but D'arcy McGee's Pub has several features that make them stand out from the dozens of other Irish bars within a three kilometre radius. First of all, its location neighbours the spot where D'arcy McGee was assassinated as he waited for his landlady to open the door to his building after a late night at Parliament. The location is also fantastic because it sits on the corner of Sparks and Elgin with a fantastic patio that straddles both streets. This is a great location to people watch and look at the many iconic buildings and structures Ottawa has to offer. Finally, if you're a fan of Celtic music, there's a jam session every Wednesday from 9pm to 2am.
The food is also a step above normal pub fare and a step towards authentic Irish cuisine, including Yorkshire pudding, boxtys and bread pudding. The staff has always been very pleasant. -

In the heart of downtown on Sparks and Elgin, D'arcy McGee's might be the most popular establishment' in Ottawa, and certainly among the best.
With live music a common fixture here, along with cheeful outgoing servers and a bustling clientele, McGee's has a positive environment that has a quiet energy about it that is distinctly Ottawa. A popular watering hole for politician's in the Nation's Capital, there are a variety of events that take place every week; such as Wednesday's interactive Celtic Jam session with Ottawa's Folklore festival instructors. At times, with fiddler music and you will forget you're in North America and not in some joint in Dublin!
Ah yes, the food. As far as pub food goes, it's tough to get better than this. Blarney Chips are a must-have for appetizers; warm crisp waffle-cut potatoes that are covered with nippy cheese sauce, Roma tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers.
For the main meal, check out the Guiness Steak and Mushroom Crock, which is braised in, yes you guessed it, Guiness. Also check out their impressive assortment of pie's for dessert. -

I've been there a few times, and this past New Years Eve. Usually busy, but great atmosphere. Tasty food, not overly expensive, just a great place to have a beer, or hang out with a group of friends. I love the Brie App with sliced Apples and Baguettes. New Years was awesome! great band, good food at midnight...although one side of the bar had a different countdown, so it was delayed a few crucial seconds before the other side of the bar rang out. Ah well, still awesome. Prepare to get comfy, its made up of a few rooms and a downstairs level which I've seen used for seating and large parties.

We usually take our out of town friends to Darcy's when they are visiting. it is close to Parliament and the canal locks so it is a great walk around the tourist parts of Ottawa and then a good Irish Pub. The food is not all that great all the time, and when it is busy, the service can be slow. It is a good place to stop though and get a brew.

I think the only thing this place has going for it is location. Its very visible and that just makes you want to try it out. I didn't care for the food and for some reason I found the layout of the interior (or perhaps it was just where we were sat) to be awkward and uninviting. The friend I went with felt the same way. Oh and the service was lousy it took forever for us to even get a drink let alone a meal. I dont plan on going back.
