Review from Todd B.
I am finding myself at Cyclops more and more often lately, as a friend lives close by and I couldn't be happier about it. Friendly staff, diverse beer rotation, surprisingly good food and expert service. I like the HH burger and the hummus plate the best. Cyclops stands out in a neighborhood where service and atmosphere are weak at best.
Sometimes, one eye is all you need. -

I had the special omelet which was with basil, goat cheese and zucchini. Tasty! Waiter said I could swap the fries out for a side salad for an extra $2. It was a good choice but not too sure if it's worth the extra cash. Coffee was OK. My boyfriend ordered the Hippie Veggie burger and it was delicious. Extra crispy! Waiter was friendly. Not the fanciest place to eat at but it was urban for sure.

Got lost walking around and ended up here. Our nachos were amazing, lots of beans and salsa - very flavorful and both of our drinks were strong, pretty much what we look for at a bar. Service was ok, they took a bit to warm up to us I think. I

Pretty good spot for food and drinks. Good locale! Drinks are spendy, but strong and worth it. Certainly a hipster joint, which is ok I suppose. The bartender was a super nice lady who gave good service. Over all I liked this place, even if the decor was a little over the top.

Staff is great. Food is A-OK. Nice Tap Selection. Atmosphere is straight up Beltown. Funky Chic and Super Seattle. Not a "locals only" bar by any means. If you are from out of town looking for a true Seattle experience this wouldn't be far of. Their burgers and fries are quite nice. Had a decent array of drafts on tap. No happy hour to speak of as far as I noticed. Would go back, but wouldn't go out of the way to do it.

I don't know a lot about a lot (that's not true, I'm wicked smart...) but I know what I like and I liked Cyclops. I have driven by that eyeball sign on First Avenue probably 6,387,212 times over the past 13 years that I've lived here and never gone in until last night. What an easy place to hang on a Thursday night. Nice atmosphere, cool bartenders, quick service...a little pricey, but It's downtown Seattle and I usually frequent dive bars so my alcohol to cash ratio meter is probably pretty skewed.
This isn't a dive bar, but it's also not a pain in the ass either- it's kind of like a buddy that you don't see very often and when you do catch up it's kind of just an easy thing to do...I don't know if you take the time to equate your bars to people, but I do and I'm something of an expert at it and I know what I'm talking about so just roll with me.
I hear this place can become a real zoo on Friday and Saturday nights, so if wall to wall Belltown folks isn't your scene (just writing that sentence about wall to wall Belltown people was a horrifying experience for me...) try it on for size next Thursday and see how it fits. -

Went here on a Sunday for some brunch and gossip with a couple girlfriends. The food was good and priced right, the drinks kept coming (and strong). There were only a few others in here and one bartender (who was great, and didn't mind we stayed for hours), so can't say much, but I will be back :)

My friend and I happened upon the restaurant when taking a stroll through Seattle. Immediately, what caught my eye, was the sign for the ACE Hotel. I've stayed at the ACE in Palm Springs and adored it and its food, so I figured that a restaurant here in Seattle, associated with that hotel was sure to not disappoint.
My friend and I sat outside, had a pleasant enough server, enjoyed some draft beers, and indulged in quesadillas and mac n cheese. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, so really, nothing could have gone wrong. It was the perfect place to stumble upon. -

In Seattle to see the UFC fights. We needed something to eat and just started wandering around town near Seattle Center. I spotted a huge eyeball hanging in front of a restaurant...or did it spot me? The menu looked good. We went inside.
Hmmmm, I've seen this trendy, American-style diner before, but where? Kitschy art on the walls. Tattooed hipster wait staff. Vintage upholstery on the booths. Oh, yeah, reminds me very much of Fred 62 in Los Feliz. That's a good thing--I like that place.
I ordered a cup of lentil soup and my friend got a chicken sandwich of some variety. His fries looked good. So did the sandwich. My soup was tasty. Very substantial for a small cup of soup.
Rockabilly tunes were playing. The waiter kept my 7-Up glass filled to the brim without my asking. They had some interesting alcoholic beverages on the menu. I'll have to go back someday and try the libations. -
Review from Laura B.
The service here usually sucks (although occasionally it's been fantastic) but the drinks are strong and delicious late at night, and the vibe is chill and fun. The food is also pretty tasty - chicken wings, steak fries and sweet potato fries, shrimp tacos, chicken sandwich, it's all good.
On the weekends, brunch is also super tasty (eggs Benedict with ham...mmmm), with good mimosas and very spicy Bloody Marys.
It's our favorite place to hang in Belltown, and we take everyone who comes to visit here, and they all have loved it. -

You know how when you find something so good, you don't want to say anything about it for fear that you'll jinx it?
That's how I feel about the El Cubano sandwich at Cyclops. It is so good - so cosmically, cuban-y, deliciously good - that my mouth is watering just writing about it. Pork and more pork, Jarlsberg, thinly sliced pickles, pressed bread that has surely been buttered...just amazing.
I think I'll amble (run?) over there again today for lunch. If you have ever lived in or around Miami, you'll recognize this as the real deal. If you haven't - well, you've gotta try this sandwich. The only thing I would change would be to offer black beans and yellow rice on the side instead of fries. -

Brunch (or as they called it, Blunch) was great! I know, I know, typically places with Rainier neon in the windows are not known for their food. But this place was a pleasant surprise!
Walked in at 1115 on Sunday and sat right down. Ordered some spicy bloody mary's and started looking at the menu. Very nice offering of savory and sweet options. I had the french toast and the bf had the polenta. Both were amazing! He's never had polenta before, and this was an excellent introduction for him! I was concerned that the mango on the french toast would be too much, but it was perfect! And I actually finished the whole plate (that never happens).
I will totally be back for some (more) hearty breakfast food. -

This place has a bunch of cool decorations. Thats the full extent of the coolness.
I was sitting at a booth thinking about how my mom had recently passed away from lung cancer. I then noticed that the employee had gone outside to smoke in front of the building and right next to the doorway (and right next to a sign put there by the business about the smoking law - no smoking within 24 feet of a doorway). Here is what happened when I went up to the bar to cash out my tab.
Me to the employee who smoked (black poofy hair chick): It is illegal to smoke in front of that doorway.
Employee: That door is closed.
Me: You are still close to the other entrance.
Employee: Yeah, so. You're not the moral police. You can go frequent another bar.
Me: It's a health issue, not a moral issue. You are affecting the health of others.
Other employee (guy with broad shoulders): Look at you man, you're angry.
Me: Look, I've said what I needed to say.
Smoker employee continues to talk at me as I'm signing the check. I tipped 2 dollars despite all this ruckus, since there was nothing wrong with the service until after I'd been served. The issue I had with the server was the male employee coming into the conversation which seemed like they were ganging up on me.
True, I was emotional about another event and wouldn't ordinarily have gotten involved in the employee's behavior... But still, her reaction was really unprofessional. Also, the other employee that was being supportive of her was unprofessional for supporting her. -

I like the food at Cyclops. The menu is a bit limited, but the food is consistently good. I also like the kitchy decor and fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, the fun stops there. The service is terrible - in fact, it's downright bitchy. We seemed to be inconveniencing our waiter just by being there. Apparently the staff here doesn't realize (or care) that they work for tips. You should really only go here if you have no other options and can deal with lots of attitude from a non-welcoming and indifferent staff.

I think Cyclops is fantastic! Their food is definitely above par for the (awesome) dive bar it is. And while I LOVE a good dive bar, I think it scores double points for being able to produce yummy stuff out of their kitchen. The Panther Room is right up my alley as far as decor and clientele. I always feel comfortable there, they carry great beers, and the rotating soup is always to die for. One star is missing solely because the service can be a tad slow/neglectful and sometimes a little less than warm... but I love it nonetheless!

This is a good place to grab a few drinks, and hang out. For some reason, it seems like there are a lot of places like this in downtown Seattle.
I stopped by here after finishing up work on Friday, and after a few drinks of raspberry and vodka, the weekend had definitely started. I'm can't say too much about anything else, accept if you need a place to alter your state, this will do the trick. -

We ordered the eggs benedict and it was really good. but the potatoes were not too great and a little under cooked.

Review from Erik M.
I recently visited Cyclops for the first time in almost 8 years, and it hasn't changed a bit. And that's pretty damn okay.
I think I snacked here once over drinks, but I have yet to leave this place anywhere remotely close to sober, so recollections are a bit fuzzy. But I do like the casual setting and oddball decor, and the service has usually been efficient and friendly whether bellied up or hiding in a booth. Overall, it just feels like the kind of place you want to burn a night when there's nothing better to do than kill a bunch of brain cells.
But, it's been the better part of a decade between visits, and I can't say I've missed it in that time. And in the weeks since my most recent visit, I haven't felt a sense of loss or yearning to return. So while I might be more inclined towards four stars while I'm enjoying another blotto evening under the watchful gaze of the slowly blinking eyeball, the days in between reveal it to be a little less memorable than the evenings themselves. -

Cyclops is one of my favorite places to hang out in Belltown - great brew selection, tasty food, great service, and a pretty laid back crowd. It's definitely a welcome departure from the more popular Belltown establishments.
I'm addicted to the Super Bueno Burger - the bacon is thick, crispy and perfect. And what do they put on their fries? Heroin? Perhaps I should mix it up a little...
Whether I need to unwind after work or I'm craving a killer Bloody Mary and brunch on the weekend, the 'clops is my standby. -

RESPONSE TO MIKE G:
I am sorry you had such a bad experience. At the time i was the only bartender not only for the bar but also to wait on the tables, inside &out & yes it was a busy Friday night. You came once to the bar to order the drinks & sat at a table 2 feet from the bar in which you have a tab at. Nor was I dumbfounded by the fact you asked why so much, i had no problem & actually felt bad for the fact i had to explain to you that our wells are $6.50 not every place is slinging out McCormick's. We actually have a decent well vodka. I live & work on Cap Hill also so when you said this is where you normally drink is why I may have been a little taken back. Not even on cap hill, unless you go to a dive bar during HH are you going to find a dbl well vodka for $6/$7. even THE COMET TAVERN'S double wells are $10. I have never in my 15yrs ever come back out & ask why someone would stiff me on $60 tab for something beyond my control.
BUT YOU FAILED TO MENTION HOW A CUSTOMER CAME OVER TO YOUR TABLE & PAID YOU $20 JUST SO HE COULD HAVE THE BARTENDER BACK TO MAKE DRINKS FOR OTHERS SINCE YOU WERE TAKING UP SO MUCH OF MY TIME. That is why i asked why you stiffed me-you took the $20 & left me $4 on $60- that sucks. how would you like it if someone came into your work & made you feel like sh!t over something which isn't your fault. Those are not my rules but please..know what you're ordering, not every place is like your cheapest watering hole. I apologize for my comment to "go back to the hill". GO South -

If the huge eclectic eyeball sign doesn't bring you in then defiantly go by great reviews of this place.
Its a fantastic little divey cafe/bar for Belltowners. This place would do well in the hipster friendly section of Capitol Hill.
I came in on a late weekend afternoon, there was none in the restaurant part, not any waitresses either -which led us to seating next door over at the bar. Waitstaff seemed a bit icey at first, but they did the job of getting us food n' drink.
Cheap good bear and the hummus plate was YUM-mmy! Came with plenty of veggies and pita.
Now the decor and energy of this place is a whole other level. Right off it reminded me of that retro bar from Pulp Fiction. The bar tabe has been detailed with all sorts of trinkets and lettering melted into some sort of glittery plexi-glass. Very cool to play i-Spy when drinking! The books are outfitted in that shiny plastic chrome with day-of-the-dead iconography surrounding.
All the makings of a very cool bar to be at when out in Belltown to just kick it randomly.Listed in: Belltown's Best

Stumbled in here starving. I wasn't greeted and had to go up to the bartender to request a menu.
I ordered the blackened salmon tacos which turned out to be delicious and served with a mango(?) salsa. It came with 2 tacos for $9, no sides. I waited for almost 25 min. for the tacos, and no it wasn't busy at all. I was still hungry so I ordered the chips and salsa. The chips are fried fresh and served with a smokey, slightly spicy salsa which was very flavorful. The chips are also seasoned with salt and a spicy seasoning. I thought the seasoning clashed a little with the salsa but it was still tasty. The chips were $4.50 and you get a big plate of them.
Flavor wise the food was good. It took way too long to get the food though, for it being so dead. I think $13.50 for 2 tacos and chips is too much. Drinks average $9.
I would eat here again but only if someone else was buying. -

"Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!" is what I thought as I surveyed my surroundings at the Cyclops Cafe & Lounge. The decor is eclectic to say the least complete with a marlin, lava lamps, red chili pepper lights, Elvis art, and pretty much anything else you can imagine! I didn't try the food (in fact I was just drinking Rainer from a can) but the bartenders/servers were attentive enough. The vibe of the crowd on Monday night was decidedly hipster...seems like its probably a regular hipster haven, but I will be back just to see what new piece of "art" I can notice next time.
Pros:
Tons of random stuff to look at
Vitamin R
2 TVs for sports viewing
Outdoor seating if the weather permitting
Cons:

Oh Cyclops. I don't know how many times my garbanzo bean cravings have been soothed by your delicious hummus. Nobody does it better in my walking vicinity.
Also who else has the most badass bartenders in Belltown? Always friendly. Never pretentious. Great personalities.

Group of people outside, talking as I leave Cyclops:
Guy 1: Man, that SUCKED!
Guy 2: What'd you eat?
Guy 1: The fish tacos! What the fuck?!
Vindication! Moments before -- very long moments -- I'd actually allowed the waitress to take my "tacos pescado" back to the kitchen/garbage, to the horror of one of my drinking and dining companions. But seriously, a cold lump of fish the size of a tube of Yelpstick sitting in the middle of a big, cold tortilla? Then they tried to trick me into believing that the foul tartar sauce was actually the poblano aioli it was supposed to come with. Please.
It's a shame, too, since when I went to Cyclops about a year ago I had a really fine couple of fish tacos. New kitchen staff who haven't learned how to cook yet, apparently. The grilled cheese and chicken quesadilla were at least in the right ballpark, if you must eat here.
This was only the half of it, since the service just about couldn't have been worse. Ten minutes for the waitress to show up. Ten minutes more for our beers to show up. Food arrives, and she'll be right back with silverware and napkins. Either that, or never, as it turns out. Some other folks come in, and the bartender explains that if they want any kind of service at all they'll need to order from the bar; the waitress is just too overworked with her six tables. So overworked that after literally 20 minutes of trying to get our bill, we just guessed what we owed and left cash on the table.
So overworked that one of our group came back to retrieve something we'd left and got to listen to the waitress chat with a table of her friends for five minutes. "Come on, have a drink!" "Oh, I wish I could but I'm on camera." Gosh, it's tough! -

I think the cyclops went blind. It used to be a laid back place to grab a drink with some friends and order up a bit of food to share. Nothin' fancy, but a unique and solid place to hang out.
Now they are a great place to wait 20 minutes for a drink, endure the apathetic wrath (somehow she manages it) of the lone waitress, order some mediocre food, and bitch to your friends about how bad Cyclops is nowadays.
Cyclops - don't you see this? It doesn't have to be this way. Just open your eye and you'll see the path to watering hole redemption.Listed in: Drinking in Seattle, Belltown - Another Seattle…

I'm going to have to change my mind about Cyclops. I used to hate this place, but now I kinda like it! I've been several times since my last review and each time has been pretty decent. What a pleasant surprise.
First off, I really like going to brunch here. When CJ's down the block has a 30 minute wait, Cyclops is a great second choice. There will never be a line. I'm a big fan of their huevos rancheros and have ordered it twice now. Although I normally despise all beans, I will happily eat the black beans that come with this dish. It's weird, I know. And they make a killer Bloody Mary, which is always welcome.1 Previous Review: Show all »

First rule when serving a bunch of Yelpers: don't piss off the Yelpers.
It's not like the waitress at Cyclops knew she was being critiqued. Perhaps she might've cracked a teeny-tiny smile or returned to our tables to check on us if she thought there was a possibility she would get slammed on the interweb.
Maybe she wouldn't have pushed me out of the way with her tray to get to the other side of the table. Possibly she would've offered those of us who were standing if we wanted to pull up some extra chairs. Perchance she would've pretended to be human.
The thing is, it wouldn't have mattered with this chick, because I experienced her same icy exterior the only other time I went to Cyclops, too, with a different group of friends. She acts as if she is bothered to be working there, and perhaps she is, but seriously. When you work on tips, you can't treat your customers like crap. Big mistake. Fake it, if you have to.
That said, I'm giving Cyclops one star ONLY because both times I was there, I was with really great people who made the experiences memorable. I can't even begin to critique the drinks, food or decor, because when you encounter that kind of shoddy service, what's the point of ever coming back? -

This place is supposed to be one of those quaint city bars that all the locals go to - i think. But, their staff was unfriendly, service was slow at best, and to call the drink i had mediocre would be kind.
So unless you don't mind service or can't find a seat elsewhere I'd recommend going elsewhere.
Oh, I'd normally give this place one star, but I felt that would be really mean of me and reserve the one star rating for a place that truly pisses me off. So cyclop's poor service and my last experience there gets two stars.Listed in: Bumble, stumble, and grumble -…

I'd been to the Cyclops for drinks a handful of times and was never that impressed but this past weekend when looking for a place for brunch I thought I'd give it a try again. The food was pretty good, flavorful and warm. I went with the biscuits & gravy, I was trying to find some that made up for my horrible Smarty Pants biscuits the other week. Well I found much better but honestly that's not really saying much considering how awful theirs were. Anyways I did like my breakfast the boy he went with the veggie scramble and said it was good but too much veggie not enough eggs.
Now on to the bad, our food arrives and the boy does not have a place setting. He's seated with this back to everyone so I'm trying to flag down someone but to avail the server is too busy talking with the cute gay boy that just walked in and was grabbing his butt while hugging him a little too long. Finally after about five minutes, ok maybe only three I'm able to flag him down and get some silverware for the boy. We both finish as much as we can and toss our napkins on to our plates and sit there and wait for our check. We wait and we wait and we wait and finally after about ten minutes we finally get someone's attention and get our check and pay. I highly doubt I'll be back I hate being ignored and this server did a good job at ignoring me. -

I've been a huge fan of the Cyclops for something like 8 years. It's very unlike the rest of the neighborhood and that's a good thing! Last night I had the Happy Hippy burger again! My friend had the Salmon taco from the special board and we were both so happy!
I really love the staff here, they're interesting without getting all in your face about it. Well, Justin might get all in your face about it but that's ok because he makes great drinks and finished my fries for me so I don't get fat. -

There was this guy in graduate school that I kept seeing months after it was over because he lived across the street. I kind of feel the same way about Cyclops. Geographically desirable is about all it has going for it. When I need something, I go back to it because, well, the place is cute - even though I know I should walk away.
I went in there tonight with an hour to kill, with the lingering memory of a certain mediocre meal I had a couple of weeks ago. Whatever, I thought. How can they screw up edamame? (I had a craving). But bless the little bar that couldn't, they manage. The place was EMPTY with two tables full out front. I was the third. For this they needed a bartender and two waitresses. All three of them were telling stories about Vegas and managed to ignore me as long as humanly possible. With all that staff, It still took fifteen minutes to get the edamame after it was ordered. Mind you, it was tasty enough. But they didn't cook anything that would take even four minutes! It clearly came from a big frozen Trader Joe style bag, nuke-style.
One star for the dipping sauce, one for the adorable fox terrier mix that let me pet him.
What are they smoking in that kitchen that everything takes so long to come out? That's the only question I have for you, Cyclops. I mean, I know what my ex was smoking. -

2 stars? I never give 2 stars. OMG give me the strength to keep this review posted. Ok yea, I'm a wimp but I'm obviously pretty annoyed. I've been to Cyclops a few times (I live very close) and it's just never been fabulous. Bummer. I went in today because Go time Seattle said they had happy hour. Annoying....they did not. Ok fine...I'll take a burger because I have a killer hang over. No alcohol...just diet coke please.
The service was a joke...as usual. She was somewhat busy but come on...look over and refill my soda please! I get working in the industry...I asked for my side of whatever the &^%$ I wanted to dip my fries in when I ordered the burger (that was always a pet peeve of mine...if you know you want tarter sauce, ranch, etc...ask when you ORDER).
She finally pops over (did I mention I'm sitting at the BAR...it's not like it's a walk) and my 2nd glass of diet coke is flat. Gross...you need to change the CO2. Well she just decided to ignore me for awhile after I told her this. Are you kidding me?? So I wait and wait....dehydrated as all hell....think desert here. She finally comes back to us and tells us when the next person gets in they'll change it. WOW! I saw someone bring the food up. Is it just you, the food runner, and a cook? She offers us a cocktail. No thanks. She finally gives us a juice and then says she won't charge for it....I'd really rather you get my diet coke please. At that point I just need a beverage. That juice went FAST. A refill on that? Not so much. NOPE. Nada...
Cyclops....your service is consistently at this level. I'm disappointed!
And that my friends is my first negative yelp. I feel awful now. Like I just kicked a cute animal (I love animals).
Sorry Cyclops....maybe we'll get back together sometime. Right now I need my space...
quick side note...the food was good AND I got more fries than I could finish which NEVER happens...but honestly I think it was because one was painfully stuck in my very dry throat (that's hot!) -

So, Cyclops was my backup as well when Macrina was ridiculous - and given that I was usually starving by brunch on weekends, it was fine. BUT, I was recently unlucky enough to go here on a Friday night and it was wretched. ONE bartender making all the drinks, so seriously - the wait was insane considering it wasn't even that packed - but she was making drinks for the bar AND the cafe ... AND, at one point, my belvedere tonic, was a belvedere - soda water (as was my friend's gin and soda water). When we pointed this out to the bartender, she had someone check the tonic and after about 10 minutes of meaningless waiting, she came back and said - sorry, the tonic machine is fine and I KNOW I gave you tonic. Off she went, end of discussion.
UM, are you kidding me? WTF is that for service? We hadn't touched our drinks besides our first sip, so had she been thinking, she could have offered us something else, or just our alcohol on the rocks. Wretched. Needlesstosay, we got our group to leave soon after that.
Won't be coming back even FOR brunch. -

2.5 stars, actually.
Anyone remember when the cyclops was a smaller place below a crazy artist studio full of mannequin parts? pretty sure they bulldozed that notorious and historic block for soul-lacking pastel and flat-faced metal condos. ohhhh, belltown.
i digress. sometimes when i go to the cyclops i'm treated like a wayward outsider. the looks say "what are you doing here?" and the actual service isn't much better. other times, however, it's a hearty "hey! welcome! what are you drinking? Whatcha out doing today?"
Mostly I only go if I'm walking from one place to another (ie Queen Anne to downtown) and need to stop for a bevvy. I've never managed to stay long enough for food.
But the last time I was there, the bartender was wearing this awesome shirt that had Alaska on the back with a little Texas inside of it. It said something like "SIZE DOES MATTER." Having lived in both Alaska and Texas, I was so pleased I stayed all afternoon. And that particular bartender was stellar. Picture included in review. -

Stopped in for a drink before dinner. We ordered a pint of Stella, ginger rhumba, and pink eye. The environment was incredibly casual. We came in, found a table, pored over the menu and placed drink orders at the bar (then brought them to our table). The mixed drinks were $9ea and the Stella was just a few bucks. Plus, a friend paid for all, it was free to me. WEE!
I was always curious about this place once I realized the eye actually blinked if you looked at it long enough. They serve other food, such as a veggie burger that sounded intriguing (isn't posted on their website menu) and they do brunch too?
I'll be open to coming back here and trying what else they have to offer. In the meanwhile, thanks! -

I read a tip here once. If you're a vegetarian, get a hippie burger. If not, get a hippie burger w/ bacon. Hippie burger best meatless burger I've had. Everything else? meh...

Review from inga r.
Cyclops reminded of the H.S. football star that got too cocky and pissed his future away, ending a pathetic drunk at the dark corner of the bar reliving old glory days while doing nothing to improve himself.
The service was poor, the drinks were way too light handed and the sound system was cheap and tinny. Even if designed for a full house its wouldn't absorb the harshness of unbalanced treble!
With seasoned and friendly staff, this place may have something. Go back to drawing boards.Listed in: My Vices
