Cyclesmith on Quinpool Rd has been there for a long time. The staff here is what makes the difference for you.
They will spend as much time as needed to get all your questions answered for you. Buying a bike can be a little overwhelming if you know nothing before you begin the search.
This is a great store and great staff. -

After having a twenty year absence from bicycles I have spent time time recently going around several bike shops trying to find something suitable for my needs.
I was disappointed by my experience at Cyclesmith not due to the lack of knowledge I was shown, but due to the failure to listen to my described needs. The young man I dealt with was polite but spent far too much time telling me about his mountain biking days rather than spend the time addressing my (his customer's) needs.
I defined a budget of approximately $1000 for a bicycle and he then showed me three bicycles, the cheapest of which was $2700 before tax!
Despite having expressed my interest in casual weekend road riding for fun and exercise, he pushed me towards "needing" something that cost essentially three times my budget.
The failure to listen to the customer lost them my business. I purchased (very happily) elsewhere.
Had the salesman demonstrated suitable respect for his customer's needs I might have purchased from Cyclesmith, but being pushed towards something I specifically said I did not want conclusively demonstrated that this was not the business in which I should place my trust (and dollars).
Ignoring your customer is a brilliant way of demonstrating a complete lack of trust and respect. I cannot give a lower rating than one star. I consider respect for your customer and their needs to be paramount to any successful business relationship. What I was shown was what would maximize profit for the business, sadly I felt my needs to be unimportant to Cyclesmith. -

On Friday afternoon I happened to be on Quinpool and decided to take my bike, Black Betty in for a bit of a check up.
As I predicted, her wheel frame is pretty decidedly bent and the seat is badly in need of replacing. Initially I was a little bummed that my local cycle guru had nothing but bad/expensive news for me but as he explained the nature of the problems I realized that he wasn't trying to sell me on some new and unnecessary parts for my poor old bike but rather some much needed and necessary replacements.
In the end, I did receive the advice I needed if not necessarily what I wanted to hear. It might be time for Betty to move on to her new casual use owner while I upgrade to something a little more reliable. When I do, i'll be sure to check out the beauties at Cyclesmith!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Cyclesmith runs on a well-balanced body of product and its finely tuned professionalism. Whether you are a serious biker or new to the scene, this is a spot to offer expertise on all aspects of cycling.
The warm weather is upon us, and I've decided to purchase some wheels of my own. But with an entry-level idea of the market, I'm still very much at the research and investigations point of my investment. Enter Cyclesmith!
This was a great first stop. Not only was the service friendly and informed, but I left the store feeling confident and better directed towards my quest for the perfect bike. There was more than a strong knowledge about the product here- the sales boy was alert to customer specifics and provided information in a clear spectrum. Clear, concise, friendly, fluff free.
He even wrote down 3 ideal bike selections and their details on a card to take with me. Not working on commission, his service appeared with the best of intentions. He encouraged me to continue my research and provided his name incase I came back.
Completely impressed with the no-pressure service. It made for an educational experience and one step closer towards hopping aboard. -

Cyclesmith is simply our local chain bicycle store. That means they carry more options then anyone else. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. They have a lot of aftermarket parts to choose from and because they tend to have a large clientele they can place orders and get you parts in a reasonable amount of time. I do, however, find it hard to recommend them for general maintenance and repairs. I'm sure that they generally do a good job, but I had my bike in for a tune up once and wasn't impressed with the results. The main reason I had my bike in was to have the wheels trued because I don't have a truing stand and can't do it myself. What went wrong?
First they were very busy and It was going to take a week to get to my bike. That wasn't a problem for me, but when I went to pick it up it got delayed another week. When I went back the second time I had to wait around the shop for more then an hour while they worked on my bike. I got my bike and the wheels, if they had been touched, were not trued very well. I don't think anyone had touched my bike untill I showed up to get it, and they didn't want to give me another week delay so they did a rush job. I had to pay full price, and my complaints about the delays and poor service seemed to fall on deaf ears.
As a plus this convinced me to become completely self reliant for repairs and maintenance. -

The folks at Cyclesmith care about you so much that they've threaded an air hose through the window for you to use on flat tires while the store is closed. I love a store that loves its customers.
In the process of outfitting a new bike for city riding I hit up Cyclesmith to check out basket and rack options. They didn't have exactly what I was looking for, but the dude who assisted me took the time to do a thorough inspection of their stock. When that didn't turn up anything he pulled out a few product catalogs and went through them in search of other options. A+ for effort! -

Bike expertise, great service and flashy products come together under one roof at Cyclesmith. The employees are oh so helpful and do a great job at tuning up my bike every spring for that smooth summer ride.
Last time I was in, I bought some safety triangles after almost being smoked on Quinpool. Alas, the triangles have long since been stolen, but at the time the dude who helped me was very patient, offering me a plethora of visibility devices to ward off quick moving vehicles of the four wheeled variety.
I also have looked at locks at Cyclesmith on a number of occasions, again receiving great service providing me with the pros and cons of each product. I even bought fenders and a basket here last summer and had them put on at a great price and in no time flat.
Bike loving folks, this is the place to go for all things cycle related! Plus, they have a pump out front providing free air for your deflated tire needs. -

Whether you're looking for a bike for yourself or (like us) a cool tricycle for the three year old grandson, this is the place. Everyone who works there is passionate about biking. The choices are extensive - okay there are only few models for the three year old, but way too many choices for the rest of us. Which is why it's awesome to have such great staff helping out in the decision making process.
I also love the fact that they have an air hose threaded out to the street for when the store is closed and you still need some air. And how come it's so challenging to find a gas station with free air?
One last story about how super friendly and helpful the staff is. In packing for our move to Halifax , I deflated my giant exercise ball. Trying to re-inflate it with my dinky hand pump was quite another story. But the folks at Cyclesmith didn't laugh or roll their eyes, they just filled it up at no charge.
Awesome.
