Thanks for all the nice comments folks, your support is always appreciated : )
My dad and uncle own Curry Original. We are always seeking new ways to make your experience at the restaurant even better, so its great to receive feedback and encouragement through forums like Yelp. There is now a Curry Original facebook page that I will be updating with events and other happenings frequently. Below is a link to it:

Good? Yup. Excellent? Only sometimes.
This place is very good, but overrated. What keeps me coming back is a consitantly positive experience, and an offering of ambience that's greatly lacking in Kingston's other Indian options. When it comes down to it, though, I'll take a hole in the wall with devine food over high back chairs any day, so anything over three stars for this place is crazy talk.
GOOD:
Most of the menu. The warm chewy naan, always-delectable mango laasi, and an assortment of curries ALL hit the mark.
COULD BE BETTER:
The chicken vindaloo doesn't quite reach that heavenly, 'the flavors are incredible even though my face is melting' sweet spot that I like to see in a good vindaloo. Not sure if it was too sour or too sweet, but the imbalance allowed the fierce heat to overwhelm the dish and resulted in a one-note flavour. At least it was proper spicy.
On the opposite end of the spice spectrum we come to another letdown: the butter chicken. This is typically a sure-to-please, creamy dish that can be counted upon to convert Indian newbs into Indian enthusiasts. So when it failed to wow my friend, I insisted on having a bite. To my horror she was right--my mouth did not water. For shame.
OUTSTANDING:
The lamb korma is off the charts delicious. I usually find korma too sweet and too mild, and I'm not even a lamb fan--but when the meat is melt-in-your mouth-tender, and every ingredient sings in your mouth, I won't just hop on the bandwagon--I'll drive the freaking thing!
The wait staff is excellent and generally goes above and beyond if you ask the right questions (complimentary desserts have always been provided to us on birthday occasions!) -

Wow, I don't understand the other reviews on here at all. Maybe it's because I used to live in Vancouver and was able to dine at really great Indian food like Vij's, but this place was a major letdown.
We ate here with a group of 8. The portions were very small and overpriced for the quality. Everything was sweet. Way too much sugar added to the sauces and curries. I'm not much of a 'sweets' person, but even the other people in our group commented on the overabundance of sweetener.
The food quality is average. I can make much better Indian food just using my trusty old Vij's cookbook. If you're looking for good Indian food in Kingston, I don't know of any better place to recommend so I guess this would be your spot. That said, if you have the time and inclination, you could pick up some much better ingredients from the farmers market and your local farmer and create something so much better.
Our group consensus was that none of us would go back. -

One of my absolute favourite restaurants in Kingston!
The dishes always seem to be made of fresh ingredients. The sag paneer here does not have the same dark blend of spinach that other restaurants will serve you, for example. Butter chicken here too is absolutely delicious and just different from the standard fare you can expect at Indian restaurants. Other favourites include the lamb korma and the aloo ghobi.
I've been told by an Indian physician that the flavours are not authentic but more Bangladeshi, but to my family, friends, and I, this restaurant is superior to many (if not all) East Asian restaurants. Prices run at about 10% more than you'll pay at other Indian restaurants, but the food is worth it. Staff are invariably polite and attentive.
I wish this restaurant had a Toronto location. -

Here's proof that Indian food can be good.
That Indian food can be classy.
That Indian food doesn't necessarily give you diarrhea.
That Indian food also doesn't look like diarrhea, as a friend of mine is apt to say.
Unless diarrhea is clear and has intact shrimp, lamb, and vegetables flowing through it. In which case, you might want to see a doctor or something.
I've gone to Kingston twice, and been to Curry Original each time. I'm pretty spice-averse, and they definitely have dishes suitable for me! The coconut lamb and shrimp were SO GOOD and nothing was left by the end of the night. I can't remember whether the curry was marked as being spicy ... but it was definitely a notch hotter than the other two dishes. My friend decided to order the "vegetable curry" so that we'd have a complete and balanced meal. Gotta love adults =]
Bit pricier than other Indian places, but it's not like you're paying for diarrhea or anything right? The establishment is fancy without being pretentious, and the owners bent over backwards to give us a table even though we didn't have a reservation. Love it. -

Best Indian food I've ever had. I've tried Indian all over North America and this is by far the best. So flavourful, naan is hot and fluffy, dishes are full of flavour, rice is fluffy and perfect. Not to be missed!

Probably the best Indian food in Kingston. Mostly tasty including the spicy vindaloo and butter chicken. The naan is warmth and fluffy. Overall, satisfying food but not the highest quality Indian I've had. Portions are average. If you're craving it, I would recommend it.

Best Indian food I have had in a long time. The starters were average, but the main courses were excellent. Portions could be bigger, but again it's really hard to find a good curry restaurant so this place is definitely worth the trip.

Best Indian food in Kingston set in a classy atmosphere with reasonable prices. I'm always very satisfied with my meal at Curry Original and make it a point to return whenever I'm in Kingston and have a craving for Indian.
