Curry Garden is staffed by some real characters!  I was in the habit of dining there around once a week until the waitress lost her temper with me one day...because I never ordered alcoholic bevvies!  It was more funny than insulting, but I guess they resent diners who skimp on the booze.

Anyhow - the food is reliably good, albeit somewhat standard. Nothing really wrong or terrible here - I'd come back for the experience and the garlic naan bread!

Order take out, they told us 35 minutes, it took one hour and 10 minutes.  The restaurant wasn't that full and they were waiting for their food quite a long time.  They gave us 15% off.  The food was quite good but I wouldn't eat in the restaurant, it takes too long.

Another issue is the gentleman who was taking the money and getting the food didn't wash his hands after handling the money!

Curry Garden has the best Indian lunch buffet I've ever had. When I lived in London I went there at least once a week, and it has shaped my expectations for what an Indian buffet ought to be. Every other one I've tried has just not been good enough. Perhaps that's just my tastebuds being conditioned to this one specific place, but I think it's objectively better than any other.

    Highlights:
    - perfect onion bhajis, with good chutney and an awesome hot pickle
    - butter chicken with the best sauce i've had, and actual white meat chicken
    - mixed vegetable bhaji and channa are also the best i've had.
    - rice pudding and gulab jamun are perfect.

The only weak point is the naan, which is good, but not the best. Often for dinner I will go to Taste of India, just because their naan is wonderful, and their curries of comparable quality. But Curry Garden's buffet can't be beat. And they're also the only Indian place in London that I've tried which does a reasonably hot vindaloo.

I travel nearly every week for work, and I tend to take in at least one Indian restaurant everywhere I go.  I visited Curry Garden for lunch during a recent business trip to London.  I chose it based on the numerous positive reviews here. Upon entering the restaurant I was impressed with the nice surroundings and understated yet appropriate music. Before eating I checked out the restroom (something I rarely do but I had little choice in this instance).  The restrooms were located downstairs and you had to pass through a dark, dingy hallway to get to them.  Not particularly appetizing, but not uncommon for a downtown location.  The buffet did not offer a large selection, but what they had looked fresh and smelled heavenly. The hot pickles were very good, and fiery hot. Only one type of chutney (mango) was a bit surprising. Butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and mixed vegetable bhaji were all very fresh, hot and flavorful. I was disappointed by the naan, which was rather dry and flaky, and the channa masala, which was somewhat flavorless. They do have a hot sauce that at first looks like tomato chutney but is wonderfully hot while also being flavorful. A dab of this sauce was able to revive the lifeless channa masala. They also have the standard desserts (i.e., pudding, gulab jamun) which I didn't try.  The service was excellent and the price is very reasonable given the quality of the surroundings and food. Overall a very nice lunchtime dining experience.

I've gotten take out from here more times than I've eaten inside the dining room (that was only once). I am very cautious about spice, so I don't get the 7 star heat or anything, but the food is fantastic. Onion bhaji, butter chicken, samosas...all delicious. This is the place where I first tried Indian food and I don't know if any other place will compare...at least in London.

My cousin and I came across the Curry Garden when searching for something to eat downtown this afternoon. The buffett looked good so we each got that and a mango lassie. Really good lassie. The food was hot, fresh, and prob the best quality buffett food I've ever experienced. As for the preparation, it wasn't as "authentically" flavoured as I was used to in Vancouver. Very yummy nonetheless. Can't wait to go back again!

I moved out of London over a year ago, and ever since I have tried to find Onion Bhajis comparable to the Curry Garden. I miss them so much :( It's pathetic really. Other restaurants have good bhajis, but just not the delicious deep fried golden brown heaven that only Curry Garden can produce. And the hot sauce! Very spicy and SO DELICIOUS. I don't know what it was but it went with the bhaji perfectly. You only need the tiniest bit for amazing heat and flavour. I also loved the Matar Paneer - peas were always fresh and flavourful, and the cheese never mushy!

I lived around the corner from the restaurant (also apparently 3 other Indian places which I never even bothered to try) so I ordered takeout regularly. They came to know me by caller ID. I dined in restaurant often enough, and the service was good - attentive with filling water glasses, etc. The lunch buffet is a great deal and you can have all the onion bhajis you want! By the way, you should try the Onion Bhajis.

The only thing I would not suggest is ordering delivery. Last time and only time I did it, they hired out to a delivery service which took almost 2 hours to get to me. I knew they didn't have a time guarantee, but more than an hour is totally unacceptable. This was not when I lived around the corner from them. I'm not that lazy. I don't know if they still have the same delivery service... this was more than 3 years ago.

For a moderately priced restaurant with quality food, I would strongly suggest the Curry Garden. Of course, the lunch buffet is the best deal.

A mixed bag for me.  I didn't care for their naan bread (regular or garlic), rice, their onion bhaji or the accompanying chutneys, burfi, chai, lamb tikka, or tandoori chicken.  However, I really liked their king prawn or chicken jalfrezie, butter chicken, biryani, mixed vegetable curry, mixed vegetable bhaji, tarka dal, and paneer maharani.  For the vegetarian dishes though, they often come to you mild (and in my opinion, tasteless).  If you tell them to make it medium to hot, the flavours improve tremendously.  The service has always been very polite and well-mannered and the ambience is fairly nice inside.
