Review from Mia C.
Seattle, WA
I am giving this place five stars because it is extremely underrated and somewhat overlooked for more "it" bars in more obvious places on the Hill.
If you like...small cozy neighborhood bars that are a little less obvious but has killer music playing, little candles lit on your tables, comfy stylish booths, and some of the best small bites and cocktails in the city, Cure is awesome.
The thing about Cure is while it's affordable, you get very small bites of really beautiful food. I got the wild boar salume, the housemade pepper jelly with cream cheese, tomato jam, and anchovies with picarra peppers. Everything was tasty and the right accoutrements wasn't afraid of spice! The pepper jelly and cream cheese is phenomenal! The bread was soft and tasty, and I was brought more when I needed it.
For cocktails, I got their seasonal special- a watermelon margarita. Who would have thought tequila and watermelon would taste so good? With the spiciness of the food, the sweetness and heat of the booze was amazing.
The menu mainly consists of artisan cheeses and cured meats with crostinis or french bread that's meant to have drinks with. It has that wonderful blend of Northwestern ingredients and Old World butcher/cheese shop. I have absolutely no complaints.
Happy hour is a great time to come- they knock $2 off their house cocktails and have a few nibbles that are lower in price. If you're a student on a budget, it's reasonable. I think I only spent around $30 for a drink and three different plates and sides of food (not all of them on the reduced happy hour specials).Comment from Amy H. of Cure 5/4/2012

Meh.
I really wanted to like this place... but based on the drinks, ... "meh" is all I can say. I got some sort of rum based punch. It was barely drinkable. Drinkable. Not enjoyable.
In defense of the bar, it's got a really cute location right by the Rock Box. It's off the beaten path, quieter place so you can chat with your friends (versus yelling). The bar has got a nice wholesome atmosphere. Bartender is super super nice.
They got some nice cured meat selections - I will go back and try those some day.Comment from Amy H. of Cure 5/4/2012

Seattle, WA
Great plates. Nice little place tucked off to the side. Intimate. However, it is definately suffering from a bit of an identify crisis. The signage and decor are very compelling. It looked like the perfect date place. But, the staff seem to not carry through with service and the music was insanely loud considering there were only 2 tables occupied at the time. When my date and I asked for the music to be turned down we got a sneer. They were playing 60s rock. Should probably be jazz, big band, maybe old french.
Atmosphere aside, great idea for a local bar - terrific cured meats and cheeses and the accompaniments were well selected. Our favorite was the duck with the pear mustarda. In fact, I've been thinking about it all weekend and will go back just for that!
Some assembly and dexterity required with the plates. Delicious finger food. -

Let's play with the name of this place for a second...
Whether you're sick or not - I've got the cure for YOU!
No joke, this place is a Cure for real. Super clean space where it's obvious that the attention is meant to be directed at the food and drinks. No fancy chandeliers, no animal heads on the wall, just pure awesome.
I sat at the bar and chatted with the owners. Doesn't everyone love that? Granted it was mid afternoon and not busy, but it's always nice to meet the people making your drinks and serving your snacks. Especially when it's done with such care and enthusiasm. Oh, and there are whispers about a potential outdoor seating arrangement. As if this place couldn't be better!
Though I'm a cocktail fan, I was pretty thirsty and thought about opting for a simple lemonade. Instead I was offered a super creative idea on the spot. "What about... lemonade, some vodka and a splash of fresh watermelon puree?" WOAH! Way better. Just as refreshing but 10x tastier. What a great idea.
Can't wait to come back and spend a lot more time here. Soon! -
Review from Dae Y.
i thought it was okay. the space is very oddly shaped. our table for 4 was 2 tables for 2 put together and we were in a bit of an odd seating pattern. service seemed good enough, but we had a hard time getting our check at the end. i didn't actually try any food or beverage because it was late and i was trying to do an alcohol detox. i just came to hang out with some friends. oh, the location is little odd too. but not horrible.

Review from Wendy L.
I like this place because of the atmosphere- but there could be a lot of improvements. I like that it's a great space to meet with friends and they have a fairly good selection of wine and cocktails.
the bar is super clean and and simple. The food is simplistic - mostly cured meats and cheeses which are great with a bottle of wine. But it is a bit pricey. I would go for a snack, but don't expect a meal. It's a great neighbor hood meeting spot- a place where you feel like you kinda want to look nice, but could also throw on some tom's and not be limited to a dive bar,
I agree that they need better bread. The stuff they give tastes day old and has no texture. It totally ruins the meat or cheese. Their olives were good, but the cream cheese stuffed jalapenos were a major disappointment.
Watermelon margarita was really awesome. Really really awesome. -
Review from Jen C.
I love this little gem. I've been twice on a weekend late afternoon and everything about it great. Both times it wasn't crowded. It's intimate enough, yet with tons of natural light. You can have a relaxing conversation while snacking on the delicious pickled spicy veggies, boquerones, almonds, olives, and bread with tomato or spicy pepper jelly. They use nice Plugra butter with sprinkles of salt. I also had the happy hour mini-sandwich and it was simple and yummy (thin slice of mortadella, cheese (maybe pecorino?) and butter.
The fresh watermelon pulp margarita is an absolute must try. It's made with love and balance, tart, slightly sweet and not too heavy on the tequila. Totally worth the $9. The Hemingway (rum, fresh grapefruit, lime juice and Luxardo) was delicious. They have a small but nice beer selection: on tap Fremont Summer Solstice, Busch, and Ninkasi IPA. They have several things in the bottle and by the can. I noticed Pacifico and Stella. Good selection of cold meats, cheeses, and wine.
The bowl of sunflower seeds seasoned with what tastes like cumin and curry powder is free. The ambiance is very pleasant. Right across from Cal Anderson Park. Perfect to sit and relax with a drink and a sassy snack. -

This is a unique and well-deserved addition, I think, to this part of town! Being hidden along Nagle Place, it's well protected from frequent vehicle and foot traffic (more later on this). Inside is modestly set up with simple, clean modern touches and lines with hints of vintage noticable. Along all the bar seating is a sweet footrest. I like the ceiling lights with multiple strands of filament, lit up in their hot self (plus the cute floral-esque stencil pattern cover surrounding this. This can totally be a lovely night date type spot with the window tables along street side. It's quiet with limited foot traffic and the park (minus some parked cars) spanning across your FOV. I can only imagine how nice it would be once covered with snow... ---peaceful... Dare I say, there were moments where I felt like I wasn't in downtown, but some small shop on the side of a quiet road out of town.
The staff is friendly and wonderful, as was the background music. Shortly after I arrived, Peter L joined me for a bit. I had the remedium cocktail (lillet blanc, gin, absolut mandarin & a splash of prosecco served over ice) and Thee Sandwich. The drink was nice and smooth. Thee sandwich was good, nothing more. The bread was a bit too tough for me. I'm no meat guru, so maybe that affected it. They put out complimentary seasoned (roasted?) pumpkin seeds.
They mentioned still being in "soft-opening" mode for their customers, which is totally cool as they want to continue getting optimized before being 100% ready. Once fully up to steam, I can picture this quaint-space running full quite often.Listed in: These reviews...

Review from Kate S.
A cute little addition to the area, and a nice place to meet up with some people for drinks and convo before a film, a round of karaoke next door, or just some good nibbles. I enjoyed myself thoroughly, but whenever cheese is involved it is really hard ~not~ to enjoy myself.
First off, I want to say the service was splendid. The bartender greeted us and quickly handed us menu's, and the waitress did not mind when we commandeered a larger table or when more and more people kept showing up in our party. Checks were split with no issues, and she was always on the ball with drinks and a smile. I liked her quite a bit.
The spicy pumpkin seeds on the table made for a nice snack when waiting for our cheese plate. Clever on their end too -- they were salty and hot and made you want to order more drinks. My cocktail with whiskey was lovely, and after I opted for Fremont's Summer Solstice ale which I was very happy to see on tap. The blue cheese w/honey was lovely -- but my favorite noshing of the evening was the artichoke soup. Was more brothy than I expected. It was simple and lovely and and didn't quite fit the happening Friday night I had going on, but it would be a nice pairing with any gray and blustery Seattle day.
Decor is minimalistic and cozy. The place was busy but there seemed to be room for everyone who wandered in. The bathroom is ~very~ dimly lit, so be ye forewarned there. Also -- and this is my biggest complaint, this place got super obnoxiously LOUD. Music was loud. Peoples conversations were loud. I had to raise my voice to talk to someone sitting right next to me, which only made the noise issue worse.
I'll be back...maybe with ear plugs, but Cure is super cute and does a lot of thing right. And besides, how can I say no to cheese?Listed in: I lub Cheese

Delicious cocktails paired with cured meats and cheeses with a great view of Cal Anderson Park? - I am in! I highly recommend any cheese that has the words "triple cream" in them and their Prosecco cocktail that I had was divine.
I remember the owner Amy from years ago when she managed Linda's Tavern and I was thrilled to see her in on this endeavour - and the second I realized she was behind the brilliant idea I knew it was going to be good. I was wrong ... it was great. -

Cure is a cocktail den that serves just enough food to aid you in drinking for hours i.e. my favorite kind of bar.
A narrow space with a lot of raw wood, large windows and twinkling candles, it has just the right amount of convivial charm and that sought-after hideaway feeling. I recommend getting the delicious Hemingway cocktail, a refreshing mixture of rum, luxardo and fresh juices that's perfect for sultry summer nights. Also tasty but potent was the Remedium: lillet, gin, vodka and prosecco. That's right, it was basically all alcohol and went down much too easily.
On this visit, I didn't sample the cured meats and cheeses that Cure is named for but I already know I'll be back. The day's offerings of charcuterie and fromage are written on the glass partition peering into the kitchen. There was a basket of baguettes near our table and I was so, so tempted to grab one and make a run for it. Small bars like this also have the friendliest and most personal service so come quick before the secret's out. -

Great idea, but over-priced and purely executed. The Hemmingway Daiquiri was supposedly made with fresh juice, but the juices were premade, and it was served on the rocks in a pint glass, and tasted like a sugary mess. Have one at Ba Bar to see it done right. The cheese was nice but served cold, and the cured meat portions were measly at the price. The bread was terrible. Glass pours were overpriced for what they served. Cafe Presse seves the sames items, executed much better, at a fraction of the price.
On the plus side the service was friendly and welcoming. -
Review from Liz M.
This is currently a 4 star place in my opinion. I didn't try any of the drinks here, so can't comment as to the quality of that. My pesto bread and the plate of meat and cheese on the table were quite tasty and I thought the menu had a number of interesting things on offer. The decor is minimalistic with a high bench running along the back wall and a bar forming a smaller C shape within the space. When this place gets popular, it is going to be packed. The people running the place were friendly and obviously were excited about bringing this new venture to the neighborhood.
However, I am knocking them down a star for the music which was incredibly, annoyingly loud. I'm not sure if we somehow accidentally ended up right under the speakers (although it seemed loud when we came in) or if I am being overly sensitive, but I could not believe how loud it was and it made conversation very difficult. Since Yelp indicates that most people found the place quiet, maybe we were just unlucky on the day we visited. Turn it down, and I'll be back. -

I love it when a new place opens and you can tell people know what they're doing.
Cure is a simple place. Simple but good, that is. No fancy cocktails. No insane decor. Just good food and good service. It's small and private. The wines are wonderful. The meats and cheeses as well.
Don't expect a pile of food when you order a plate. You're paying for quality, not quantity. And it's worth every penny.
And they have mortadella. I love me some mortadella.
The spicy pickled veggies are out of this world.
I will be going back again, and again, and again... -

Dear Cure:
You have the best. artichoke. soup. EVAR. I don't know what kind of magic you put in there, but whatever it is, DO NOT EVER STOP. I would love it even more if it magically appeared on my desk here at work, but that's just pushing it, I realize.
Cure's space is simple, cozy, and very inviting. The staff is awesome - Amy is a delight! And the menu? Simple and very very good. The Cure Royal? Dangerously delicious. The pepper jelly & cream cheese? Unadorned and perfect.
And I learned a new word: mortadella! I don't eat pork/sausage so I had no idea what this was - not only did I have a lovely little meal, I learned something new!
So Cure, we will be back. Along with 5 more friends to share the love. -
Review from Claire O.
So first of all I should preface this review by saying that I've been eagerly anticipating the opening of Cure for weeks - the only thing better than enjoying great wine, meat and cheese in my opinion, is enjoying it IN YOUR BUILDING. So suffice to say, I was predisposed to like it but I had high expectations...
Cure didn't disappoint. Simply perfect is how I'd describe it. The couple who owned it were super friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is chill but with a nice, buzzy vibe which is conducive to sophisticated conversation and scandalous gossip alike. I tried 2 red wines, both of which were delicious. The meat, in particular, was outstanding (highly recommend the chorizo - SO flavourful). And they served my two personal favourite cheeses in the world - Bleu d'Auvergne and Bourgogne. My only complaint? The bread was a teensy bit stale... not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, highly recommend Cure and suspect I'll be frequenting it a lot in future. -

Hunts Point, WA
a welcome Capitol Hill addition
I tried
1) Artichoke Soup [$4.95]:
certainly a signature dish
earthy and unusual
an ample portion
order this
2) The Sandwich [$6.00]:
mortadella, pecorino, mustard, and mayo -
it's not huge but its tasty and filling
it could have used another layer of mortadella
served with 2 small pickles
3) Mixed Olives with Herbs [$6.00]:
order this
its just a reminder how flavorful cured olives can be
this dish makes you want to order all the other condiment offerings
4) Housemade Apple Strudel [$4.95]:
served with nuts and honey
flaky, not too sweet, a great ending
The great thing about Cure is how you might mix and match small plates [meats, cheeses, condiments] and have a variety of tastes at a reasonable price - which will keep you going back;
I'm liking the concept.
Note that the rectangular room is quite loud -

this is a perfect place to drink.
drinks are top notch, but the food is awesome, and EXACTLY what i want to eat while getting a good drink going. any place with spicy pickled vegetables wins with me, but these are above and beyond. i saw (but didn't yet try) the sandwich, and had i been hungry, i woulda ate the shit outta that.
i had a coupla bites of the artichoke soup, and it was delightful. fully recommended.
great atmosphere. clean, smooth (i love the butcher-block tables), and seemingly well-hidden while being right in the middle of it all.
i'm sure i'll be here so often, they'll carve my name in a bar stool. -

Drinks are alright. Ordered some cured meat. Overpriced for what you get. And if you're going to push this stuff as "artisanal", you need to step with better bread. The bread that came with the meat plate tasted like some bland french bread you can get at Safeway.

nice addition to capitol hill. you fit right in:
- secret or hard to find location (behind seattle central community college) in the alley/street of Rock Box with a view of Cal Anderson Park/tennis courts
- cozy yet modern decor. great bar stool area then lined with small tables along the corners of the space. it really is a small place. maybe seats 30-40.
- simple menu with great products. focus on cheese, meats, some yummy compliments (olives - do not underestimate olives). had me some prosciutto and salami - so simple and tasty. for cheese, i got the triple cream. thank goodness the portion was small cuz that's all i needed.
- a simple drink menu. the food seems to be paired well with the wine although i didn't get wine and had to try a cocktail. i got the Remedium - lillet blanc, gin, absolut mandarin, and prosecco. it was very refreshing and couldn't ask for better for a sunny friday evening.
i'd say to come here if u miss Pike Place or Salumi quality of meats and cheese. come here if u want a chill, more intimate place on the hill.

i love this place! new favorite. it is ran by a local couple, they've been in the business for years and have got a good recipe for success i think. the menu is complex looking and maybe intimidating for the average joe but staff is really excited about being helpful with choices and spot on in my opinion. the space feels low key and relaxed. it's kind of hidden but also very near to everything. my favorite eat so far is the artichoke soup, so good. menu choices are clean and filling, i'm in love with the spicy pickled veggies. no greasy bar food here, and definitely no ranch! not to mention everything on the menu is available straight through till closing. that's a win on the hill.
