Review from Tristan S.
This place is worth checking out for its supposed 'world-famous' waffles. Avoid the bathrooms at all costs, though.
Crystal Hut is a tiny little place with some other things to eat besides waffles. Plus a few alcoholic beverages to go with your coffee.
The waffles have all kinds of goodies on them: chocolate chips, berries and other num-nums. They need pecans, though, in order to get 5 stars.
And they need to reconsider their bathroom setup. The smell emanating from the Hut region isn't, unfortunately, waffles, but a strong scent of sewage. Not sure what the deal is, but it smells horrible, and they'd do well to get rid of it. But then again, maybe they're trying to regulate the flow of people into the Hut. -

By far the best restaurant on the mountain and maybe one of the best in Whistler all together. Really, I should say, the best dish in Whistler. The Crystal is a small 'hut' (think log cabin) at the top of the Crystal Chair. It's always warm and toasty, usually to the point where you have to open the vents in your ski pants. They have steak on the menu (which I've never tried) and waffles. Oh, the waffles.
The first time I heard about the waffles at Crystal Hut I kind of thought, 'Big deal.' It turns out they are a big deal. I very big deal. Made to order, the Belgium waffle is massive. It is then topped with hot maple syrup (the good stuff), melted butter, strawberries and some other sort of berry (seems to vary), chocolate chips and whipped cream on top. There is nothing, nothing better than a Crystal Hut Waffle after a morning riding session.Listed in: Whistler Eats, Dual Mountain Pub Crawl

When I got to Crystal Hut, the line was out the door. I figured that was a good sign, but it turned out Glacier Creek Lodge was closed (not sure why) and Crystal Hut was carrying some of their load. Still, the staff seemed to be handling the situation smoothly, and were upfront about the resulting delays: I'd have to wait half an hour to get my waffle.
Had a beer and watched the Clark's Nutcrackers (whiskeyjack wannabes) while I waited. I hoped the waffle would be worth it. Unfortunately...
The liquid from the strawberries and blueberries had turned most of my waffle to mush. It wasn't because it was sitting around sopping up liquid; I was eating within a minute or two of when the berries were added.
Judging by the waffle parts that survived, if it hadn't disintegrated, it would've been good. The toppings (strawberries, blueberries, maple syrup, chocolate chips, whipped cream) were good enough to make it tolerable overall, despite the mush.
Next time, I'll try something from the wood oven. Looks like there's potential there. -

If I hadn't made a vow never to eat at the same place twice while visiting Whistler, I would have had a waffle here every day. Well, that and the fact that I would probably not fit into any of my jeans anymore.
I had a fully loaded waffle, fresh from the iron, topped with blueberries, strawberries, syrup, whipped cream, and chocolate chips. It was amazing. My boyfriend, for some reason, didn't seem to want a waffle for lunch. Yeah, I don't know. He ordered a steak sandwich, but they were out. Although he was really sad, I'm not going to dock a star for that because my waffle was SO GOOD. He got chicken and asparagus instead, which was delicious too.
I should warn people that the wait was long (30 minutes for a waffle) and the service wasn't especially friendly ... but still, 5 stars. Best waffle of my life. -
Review from John D.
A cozy cabin atop blackcomb mountain that has great freshly made waffles... I finished the entire serving and felt like passing out immediatly b/c I was so stuffed. I highly recommend when needing a break on the slopes for something other than a burger/nachos, whatever the bars/cafeterias serve. I ordered the fully loaded waffles... which were great, but if you're into simplicity and not much of a sweets person, I think they'd be great just plain w/ some syrup on the side. I didn't go for booze/lunch items, but the chili looked good and they serve wine/beer.

The waffles were very good but the wait was very long. The place is very small and crowded. I'm not sure the wait was totally worth it but now we say we've been there.
