This place is actually ok. If you're here for business you're not going to trip off the decor too much. Based on our stay, here's the breakdown.

    Pros:
Breakfast everyday was awesome, bacon, pancakes, eggs and more buffet style. Great service. It's located inside Thrive and I'd give this 5stars.
    Wi-fi included!
Fitness Room, Clean treadmill is new, there's a tv on the panel-but I watched the big screen on the wall. Great view.
Front desk staff is super nice and friendly.
Rooms have 5 pillows on each bed. comfy.
Showers have the curved shower rail o you have extra elbow room.
Nice little sleeping kit included in all rooms.(eye mask, ear plugs linen spray)

    Cons:
We all got bit by BED BUGS! Deal breaker! 2 rooms no bueno!
Parking garage had a really low ceiling, our Tahoe rental was real close to the ceiling.
We couldn't figure out how to turn off the A/C so it was blasting.
Decor of the hotel is straight out of the 80's.

All in all..not bad. But the bed bugs thing was really disappointing because the daily breakfast was really good.

I am from Dallas, but I stayed at this hotel for New Years Eve so that I wouldn't have to worry about driving home after a night out. When I checked in, I was placed on a floor that appeared to be under construction (the floors had plastic wrap on them in the hallway). This was supposed to be a special night out so I was surprised to see the construction. BUT, it wasn't too big of a deal so I let it go.

Afterwards, we came home early morning to find that the elevators were broken. The firemen and police had surrounded the lobby. Long story short, we  were forced to walk up 19 flights of stairs because our room was on the 19th floor. Keep in mind, we were in no condition to to be walking up 19 flights of staircase, especially in a nice dress and heels. Half way through, I took my heels off. The next morning I woke up with blisters on my feet. I know it wasn't the heels creating blisters because I wear them all the time, and have never had blisters from them. I am not one to complain but when I went to the front desk to get a lower discount, they took a measly $15 off my rate... My rate was originally $129. So I still had to spend over $100 for an awful stay. I thought it would have been fair to make my rate an even $100 but according the the FRONT DESK MANAGER - MANNY, that's all that they can do for me.

This was a SLAP IN THE FACE. It's obvious that they truly DON'T CARE about their guests.

Walking in here it just feels wrong.
I also had trouble with breakfast room service as they overcharged me and they blamed me for having an old out of date menu in the book in my room! The lady on the phone actually kept arguing with me. So unprofessional! You could NOT PAY me to return  and stay here!
#1628 stinks!! Scary smell, the room next door was fine in smell but I did worry about bed bugs.

I know Hotels are cutting back on their Floral displays but the Multi Colored dying Daisies in the lobby should have been the clue.

Do not get fool by the low price of this hotel($50/night on priceline). This is the worst hotel experience we have had since we began our trip.

The most annoying thing is that there is no hot water! The temp outside is around 50 F something and we have to  take a shower with that temp for three days. We end up going other places to find somewhere to take a shower. We asked the front desk and all they can do was just to put the paper in front of our room to notify about the absence of the hot water system.

The room smelled like something had died before we moved in and they just sanitized our room by using a lot of chemical and made like we were staying in some nursing home. I felt very sick with this smell.

Last thing is the Wifi. The internet is very SLOW. My slow means SUPER slow. We spent about 20 minutes to just look for some restaurant we were going to eat.

Overall, it deserve 1 star (or less) from me. I will never ever recommend this hotel to anyone.

If you have any other options, don't get a room from these thieves. I booked 2 rooms 6 weeks out on Priceline and quickly realized I had booked for the wrong date. I tried to correct this error, they charged me a $178 cancellation fee.

When I called to get the cancellation fee removed, I was lied to by the Crowne Plaza, telling me that they had no way to refund my money as Priceline had it. As I and others I know have had no problem making changes through Priceline in the past from ETHICAL companies, I know they are lying liars.

The thing about organizations that lie is that they will find a way to steal from you no matter what. They will lose that $178 in revenue ten times over as Crowne Plaza, which used to be an approved hotel for us, is, as of now, on our company blacklist. They have stolen from a small business and are therefore evil.

My boyfriend and I were here at Crown Plaza over the weekend.

We got the room real cheap on Priceline, 50.00 a night plus tax. I thought that was such a steal! The location was right in the heart of Downtown Dallas! Great for us since everything that we had to do that weekend was within 5 minutes of Downtown.

When we arrived, we got a little confused about the parking but as we entered the Lobby, we were greeted by the host.. Very Friendly and quick.. We were checked in within minutes.. She explained parking to us.. There is a parking connected to the hotel that we had to pay 12.00 for with unlimited access with your hotel key...

Now with the hotel key, you practically need it for everything at the hotel.. For the elevator you have to use it to go to your floor and for your room and to get in and out of the parking garage, which is kinda inconvient but also makes you feel safer knowing not eveyrone can get in the hotel..

Our room was a standard room, nothing really "wow'ed me about it.. We did get a little sleep kit which included bed linen spray, ear plugs and a sleep mask which i thought was cute..

Our room was on the 15th floor so we had an awesome view of downtown and we had a view of the pool which was located on the 9th floor...

We didnt interact with the staff too much so i cant say anything about the service except for when we were checking in.

Thats all i can really say about this place since we werent really there for long..

OOh but they do offer a hot breakfast but it comes with a cost! :( The menu looked yummy though!

oh and they are connected to a club called Thrive but we didnt go in but from the looks of it, it looked really hip..

Thats all for this review! :)

Absolute crap cancellation policy. I booked a trip a year out, thinking that they'd have the same policy as anyone else, if you cancel within a certain amount of time, there's no change fee.

A friend offered for us to stay with them so I canceled with them, 9 MONTHS OUT. They still charged me a one night penalty of $131. Absolutely absurd. Screw these thieves.

"We understand that sometimes plans fall through. We do not charge a change or cancel fee. However, this property (Crowne Plaza Hotel Dallas Downtown) imposes the following penalty to its customers that we are required to pass on: cancellations or changes made before 6:00 PM ((GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)) on Aug 29, 2012 are subject to a 1 Night Room & Tax penalty. Cancellations or changes made after 6:00 PM ((GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)) on Aug 29, 2012 are subject to a 1 Night Room & Tax penalty."

Staff was very friendly, efficient, and helpful.
The business center was well-equipped and a definite plus.
Continental breakfast was much better than I expected - there was actually hot food served, not just your standard pastries ripped out of a Costco container served alongside fruit.

    Three starts because:

My room smelled a bit odd.  I don't know what happened in there before I came along, but since I was rarely in it, I didn't make a huge fuss.

The decor/atmosphere felt drab and boring.

Location, location, location.  I'd booked in a rush, so I neglected to spend the appropriate amount of time researching - because you drive everywhere in TX, for those with a car, it seems convenient, but if you don't have one, have fun hailing taxis that are inclined to go down one-way roads - the wrong way.

It didn't feel very convenient to much except the McDonald's a few blocks away and encounters with the police.  I saw two separate arrests take place, so I don't exactly know what conclusion to draw from that, but if I wanted to see it again, I'd tune into Cops.

The whole place has an out-of-date feel..maybe because the place IS out of date.  I had to stay there for three nights for a professional conference.  I asked for a quite room prior to check-in, but the first night I couldn't get much sleep due to the train tracks nearby.  Next morning I asked for a quieter room.  The woman on the phone sounded nice, but the new room is still semi-facing the train station on the westside of the building, AND the room is right next to the elevator.  I thought it was nice that the hotel provided guests a set of sleeping aids, and NOW I know why!

There is a shuttle bus that operates within 3 miles of the hotel during weekdays, and sporadic service on the weekend.  I had to go to the conference on Sunday as well, and unfortunately I was told that they don't have shuttle service until Sunday afternoon.

The bar was ok. The food took forever to arrive, but the staff is friendly.  I would definitely try another hotel room if I was ever in the area again.

    This was a border-line call....

Although this room was earned based on the Mrs. travel points, the overall experience was a tad rocky, although could have teetered either way.

Upon entry, the recently (and what's up with the retro, Mad Men-esque flair of everything lately?  Note to designers:  this stuff will become dated soon) remodeled lobby was a pleasant experience, as was the interaction at check-in.  We were provided with the customary coupon cornucopia (does anyone ever use those?) as well as guidance of the bar (more on that later) and directions to elevator, in/out instructions, shuttle service, etc.

Upon entry to our room, we realized immediately that we were adjacent to the elevator bank, and considered a quick call to relocate.  However, since we had just gone through the song and dance to get in the room (was a free night without kids, so barring air raid sirens, tough call to request a room change).  However, after a few moments of chill (and the Proseco we were drinking didn't hurt) we realized being an elevator neighbor was inconsequential.

So...we are 'chilling' and decide to unwind with a weather update via the TV, but low and behold, no remote...hmmm...looked up, down, drawers, shower, window sill, etc....no remote.  Called down to front desk, requested a replacement that was delivered within 5 minutes.  All good, but puzzling to begin with.

Fast forward to post-dinner (see Samar review), we came back to visit lounge area off of lobby, and honestly, not one soul in the place excep the 5 bored employees.  Chalk it up to Saturday after Thanksgiving, but um, nope, we weren't buyin.

All said and done, this place feels like it's trying to play in the big leagues, in pomp and circumstance, but in the end, it's a fancy entry-level hotel in a downtown spot that needs to address some blocking an tackling fundamentals (see pic I posted of pool area, come one folks, at least move the pool cleaning equipment!).

    Meh.

    Disappointing stay.

No room service menu in the room (though a dinner-menu copy was brought up quickly). Very limited options on the menu and arrived lukewarm and, in some cases, cold. (Though the Belizean Cobia Tacos were delicious and cheap. Only wish they were hot.)

The fellow who delivered it couldn't speak a word of English and it took four tries for him to understand "on the bed" (my desk was used by my computer), then he left without closing my door. I didn't find that it was ajar until an hour later.

The room's thermostat was broken so it was pumping out very cold air. The engineer on staff, a very friendly and apologetic fellow, went away to get some kind of special tool, which seemed to have disappeared from the hotel. They don't have any space heaters as a backup. Never heard back from the engineer or anyone from the hotel.

It was a cold night. Cold and loud. The window is actually a sliding glass door (bolted permanently shut) which is thin and is not sealed. Now I know why the hotel puts earplugs on the bed. That's not a joke; they really do.

In the morning, trying to order breakfast was a nightmare. They only brought me a dinner menu the previous night, so I had to go through the game of asking them to bring me their breakfast menu. Tried to order, got voicemail, so I left my room number. 20 minutes passes with no response. I left a second voicemail. Another 15 minutes passes. Finally, after calling the hotel operator and explaining the situation do they call me back -- too late at this point to eat without missing my morning commitment.

On the plus side, the rooms are nice: large flat-screen TV and a duvet (a little thin for a duvet, actually, but still... points for effort). Free wireless wifi that didn't need a gateway -- just turn on and surf.

Centrally located. Only about a 6-8 minute walk from Dealey Plaza. Many restaurants and clubs located nearby.

When we arrived, we got checked in just fine, only to find that our F-250 did NOT fit in the parking Garage.  It's ok there's a solution for that, the desk clerk says "oh you can park accross the street for less than we charge you, (yep I was thinking the SAME thing, WHY would I pay to park somewhere that I am already PAYING to stay at?) so after two blocks down, two blocks to the left and a block back up there is the parking. $3.00 for the weekend (Saturday Evening to Sunday Morning), walk our bags a block up and a block over, get on elevator, and can't get to upper floors? Oh yeah you GOTTA put your key in the elevator for THAT little perk. (nevermind we were on the 14th floor, although better than the guy on the 13th floor since there is NO 13th floor poor thing) anyway, get ready for concert go to hotel bar, a couple drinks go to concert and come back, go to use restroom, OH wait what the hell? All of the sudden red velvet rope EVERYWHERE and we have to ASK to use the bathroom in the hotel we are PAYING to stay at? Oh well we will just go have a night cap.............NOPE you have to be wearing PANTS to get in (we had on shorts JUST like we did three hours before when we were sitting at the bar), this place magically turned into a nightclub that in order to get in, you had to be wearing a dress that showed your va jay jay and 5 inch heels (you had to look like a hooker), AND we were now no longer able to use the elevators on our own, we had to have an escort now. Ummmmm HUGE red sign went off in my head it must not be safe in the elevators after dark around here. NOT returning to this hotel or ANY hotel with the same name! STAY AWAY Sorry I LOVE to write good reviews but I can NOT on this one. Oh yea and we had to wheel our bags BACK down and over a block to our truck that thankfully was NOT stolen in the night LOL

Okay, the furniture is getting a little beat up, and my dog peeing on the carpet didnt help, sorry patrons.  But they took dogs, for $125 deposit, thats refundable if no damage, so my pup was free! Our company got a  great deal we got breakfast for 18 days free, and lunch Monday-Friday free, and happy hour tuesday-friday, AWESOME! I spent little money for food. (sigh),  the pool was freezin, but Im use to 50 degrees so when it was 80s I was loving that pool. It is a good little pool too, deep end is deep, watch your brats. Shucks, no pets allowed on deck. Staff was really nice, but dealing with my group for 18days, its best just to be friendly. I would total stay here again if training brings me back.
