    This store is consistently great.

To my surprise I was asked on a busy Friday night if I was finding everything ok. I was surprised, shocked really... because yes, yes I wasn't able to find the bottle I was anxiously waiting since Monday 9am. Sadly they didn't have my ol' favourite but this lovely person was able to help me find something similar and noted that if I'd like to order a case of my "it's ok you're a 30-something, drink this and feel better about it.." I could get 10% off. WOW.

I've had 3 very different visits here.

The first time was great. I came in with my boyfriend, and a gentleman working there came up to us and helped us pick out a wine. We couldn't get over how helpful the he was! He asked us all the right questions to narrow down what we would want... and since we don't know anything about wine... we neeed all the help we could get!

The second time was just to pick up some coolers. We were in and out super fast. No problems.

The third time, I was by myself and I was miserable. I wanted that original guy to come back and help me pick out a wine. There was a wine I had tried not too long ago at a friend's place called Apothic. I was looking for that one... and apparently it's pretty well known so I figured it might be there.

I searched all over and couldn't find it. No one even tried to help me. I eventually flagged down a guy who seemed to be in a pretty bad mood... and asked him and he gave me this look like I was retarded and was like, "Uh.. no, I haven't even heard of it." And walked away. Maybe he was busy, maybe he was stressed... I don't know. I really wanted help still but didn't bother asking again. I found a wine called "Cupcake" and went with that because I couldn't imagine anything with that name being bad.

When I went to the check-out, the lady there was really nice and friendly. I asked her if she had tried the wine and she said yes and described it to me. I was already ready to go... so no matter what she said wouldn't have mattered... but she was acurate nonetheless. The wine was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. I think I would have loved to have more help on that one.

So I have mixed feelings about this place after that last visit. The one time in my life I set out looking for a wine I really like... they didn't have it. So I don't know if that speaks to their inventory or not... but I wasn't impressed. That ONE guy was pretty rude, but that doesn't speak for everyone working there... because 2/3 of the staff I've spoken to was really helpful and kind. I'll defniitely be back though just because it is close to home and convenient.

Oh, eff. Here we are. On a double date. Politely discussing which of the Tinsletown Cinema selections we should see. It's that slightly awkward multiple person scenario that will ultimately conclude with a film that none of us want to watch because we're all just too damn polite to speak up. Lucky for us -- lucky for you -- my keen booze detector has sniffed out a plan. I can ease all of the Kate Hudson pain we're about to endure. I'm a get me some covert wine to smuggle into the theatre.

Open 7 days a week, until 11pm each and every one of those days, Crosstown is just the place to find such a thing. Sure, it's pricey (my favourite cheapo French chicken wine is NOT a $17 bottle), but totally worth it to ease the struggle of the next agonizing few hours.

Also, it's the only liquor store in a 2 kilometre radius. Gastown, Railtown, Tinsletown --- we'd all be boozeless without Crosstown Liquor Store. And just where would we be then? Running our own covert wine operations, that's where.

    (...lightbulb?)

    3.5 stars.

Crosstown Liquor store is Crosstown's only full-service liquor store. The place is beautiful (no hideous lighting, and the place is temperature-controlled, swell job), the staff are friendly, and there is great selection, and fun events, including a monthly wine club to get ya educated, and weekly tastings.

I was in a spendy mood, and decided to hike over and give them a chance instead of BC Liquor Stores, because they seemed like a cool local business, and even had a "buy two 750mL bottle of spirits and get something free" promo going on.

    My only qualm?

The two things that I was looking for specifically, Bulleit Bourbon, and Kraken Rum, were not carried in their store.

I was the only customer there, as it was early in the morning. Maybe they felt a little awkward after telling me that they didn't have the objects of my desire, and left me alone for a minute. I looked at their wines for a sec, maybe for a gift for my mom and her man-friend. They have great stuff there.

One of the staff came over, a polite and friendly gentleman, who offered to help me seek alternatives to Bulleit and Kraken, but unfortunately, I needed those brands and their flavour profiles for particular recipes I was working on (vanilla bourbon bacon truffles, and figgy ginger bread pudding) and wasn't interested in finding something else, because I rarely-if-ever have a drink, so it wasn't like I was going to use the product otherwise.

I did ask if they had a washroom, as I had drank a lot of coffee on the way over (it was early, and cold out, don't judge), and they referred me to Pivo, the pub that they're associated with, a few doors down.

I thanked them and was on my way.

    Tried the door at Pivo.

    It was locked.

They weren't even open yet. Why did they tell me to come here?

The bus I needed to catch 50 feet away whizzed by.

    Really??!!

All the doors at Tinseltown were locked, other than the skeezy McDonald's that is always full of shady characters and has to have security guards on weekend nights.

I'd rather let my kidneys rupture from holding my pee in, than use their washroom.

No booze, no free stuff for me.

All I got was a long wait for another bus on a Sunday.

This was a disappointing experience, to to say the least. All the other BC Liquor Stores are closed on Sundays, I don't have a car, and needed that stuff today, for recipe work. Ugh!!!

If you need something specific, I'd recommend calling ahead, to see if the trip is worth your time. Otherwise, they have beautiful wines, and a lot of spirits that I noticed, with annoyance, are available at a lot of other liquor stores in town.

    Sigh!

7 days a week, street parking almost always, perfect Crosstown Vancouver location!

Wine selection is perfect (I prefer Auzy wine and they have tons of it), the decor is great, very warm feeling ambience.

Every experience I have had, the staff is extremely knowledgable and seem to really love their jobs! Perfect combination!!!

This is a great place to get the usual order or something nice for that special occasion!

    Come one, come all!!

apparently the temperature is set at the ideal temperature to keep red-wine at.

pretty good selection, reasonable prices for a privately-owned liquor store, and a friendly staff.

    great location too.

    Favourite liquor store, hands down!

Temperature controlled space and so you have to go through 2 sets of doors before entering. Keeps your wine at the ideal temperature so you don't have to prep it when you get home.
Tons of coolers wrap around the room, providing ice cold beverages of all kinds.
Wines are categorized by type instead of country, which makes me very happy. Sometimes you just want a good Pinot Noir but don't want to hop down the different aisles to find one.
Good store hours and have yet to wait in a line to make a purchase. Prices are very consistent with BC liquor stores and sales drop the prices even lower.

    Win win win!!

Here is a new beer & wine liquor store located in the Tinseltown building, same owner as Pivo Public House next door. They have a unique selection of local and import beer & wine. All of the beer is in large coolers, and the wine is sectioned off in categories of grape/region. They also have a very large wine reserve selection off to one side.

These guys are trying hard to be finely tuned liquor store with a sommelier on staff, a wine club, local delivery, and tasting events.

Its a refreshing change to most all liquor stores, I am sre they will do well.

I think this store has the location and the store hours going for it. Prices are OK and the variety is reasonable. Do I prefer it over the BC liquor store hmm not likely. It has better variety no doubt. I guess it caters to a certain kind of crowd so give it a try as it might or might not be your thing.

Convenient location within Tinseltown with street parking right outside. Great selection of wines, already chilled. They have my favorite St Urbans hof riesling, as well as other lower priced tasty wines and beers.  Very friendly people that work here, and they are always helpful.

Oh, they have Vista D'oro preserves here, to complement your wine!

I prefer buying from Crosstown than BC Liquor Stores. Plus the people here are very nice. It's open 7 days until 11pm.
