We came here after a rave review of the prime rib by my mother-in-law. Unfortunately we were sadly disappointed. The meat in both the prime rib dinners we ordered was horribly tough which indicates either poor source material - a lower grade of beef than one would normally expect for the price, or the chef blew it by cooking it too fast and cutting it before it had a chance to sit (always a possibility on a busy Saturday night).
The service at Crock and Block was excellent which is the main reason for the 2 stars. Our waiter, David was very attentive and appeared to be as disappointed by the meat as we were. We were not charged for either of the prime rib dinners (nether my wife nor my mother-in-law were able to eat more than a few bites) and they bought us a dessert. That type of customer service is what it takes to turn a bad experience - which may be a rare event - from one where you never go back to one where you will consider trying again.
Based solely on this one experience, if you come here (we haven't discovered very many good restaurants in Barrie), stick with the easy food like a burger. The fresh baked bread was tasty as was the escargot in garlic butter. Because of the service I would not write this place off. It is my bet that they are going to figure out what went wrong and fix it.
