Review from Erin D.
Crazyweed is bar none the best restaurant I have ever been too. I have been several times over the last several years and most recently enjoyed our after wedding dinner there as well as a recent spontaneous visit in September. The food is mind blowing. Every last bite is literally breathtaking, in fact on our last visit I momentarily forgot where we were and was instantly reminded when the Jalapeno Corn Bread arrived which was DIVINE. That's just the BREAD BASKET, it's FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would recommend you try a couple of entrees, as all of them are wonderful. I have had the good fortune of being able to try several items on the starter menu and everything we ate was memorable. The calamari literally ruined me it was so good. I can't take any substitution after devouring it there. I think the best part is that you can choose how expensive you want the evening to be, if you are on a budget, share a couple of appetizers with your dining companion and split an entree, you will leave completely satisfied. The last time we visited we did that and our bill came to $50.00. You could literally suffer through a meal for two at Earl's for more than that total. If you want to splurge, I can safely say you will not feel like you wasted a penny, every bite is worth it.
On top of it all, it's located in Canmore, is a beautiful, interesting, naturally lit environment encircled by the Rocky Mountain. It doesn't get better than this and I urge you to take a day trip out to the mountains followed by a visit to Crazyweed, you will thank me!

We went back twice during our last brief visit to Canmore so that should tell you something. Unlike some other reviewers our service was exceptional and the food was very good. It was also reasonably priced for this quality of a restaurant (and compared to the Trough where we ate another night). A couple of years ago I had a duck dish at Crazyweed, which remains to date the best thing that I have ever tasted. Unfortunately, there was no duck on offer this time around but my roast chicken was terrific and the braised ribs my wife ordered were also very good. A solid wine list with several good selections that won't break the bank - I dream of having a restaurant of this quality up here in the north.
p.s. we went back for lunch and the Thai chicken salad was fantastic. -

Now that's what I am talking about!!! After two awful dinners in Banff I was starting to wonder whether the Canadians know good cuisine. And yes, they do! The gentleman that was sitting next to us on the plane to Calgary recommended Crazyweed to us. After our long hike we were dying for some good food so we drove to Canmore. We tried to get into The TroUgh and were turned away because we didn't have a reservation. The hostess said to us...."for this restaurant, you need a reservation". Oh please.....
After being turned away, we drove to Crazyweed. Luckily there was a spot at the bar otherwise they would have turned us away as well! What's up on Canmore?? And we were still early dining. Anyway, the food here is outstanding and very inventive! We had the salt and pepper Calamari, chimichurri pork bellies, and the pear/stilton pizza and all was excellent. And the wine was reasonable with a good variety of choices. Finally...a good dinner on our trip to Canada!!
The service was quick and efficient; the atmosphere is nice and open. We enjoyed our meal so much that night that we almost returned for an encore the following night but decided to try another Canmore restaurant. Crazyweed is a definite gem!1 Previous Review: Show all »

It's interesting that some people like this place so much. I have been twice, and both times thought it was absolutely dreadful. Cold, uncomfortable, sterile room, with passe, 15-year-old downtempo music playing from the speakers... so the mid-40-something soccer moms can feel like they are hip and "still get it." the menu items are totally predictable and look like they were pulled straight from the pages of Gourmet magazine, or http://epicurious.com. I'm sorry, but if I want a generic, predictable lamburger like Crazyweed serves, i can follow the recipe from epicurious and make it myself at home. Why don't they get a real chef who can make their own food?

I went with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday and I was very happy that we chose this spot!
For starters we had the Vietnamese meatballs and Thai chicken skewers. Both were fabulous! The vietnamese meatballs had a delicious sauce to dip in and came with lettuce leaves to wrap the meatballs in. Very flavorful and maybe a bit spicy. I thought the portion was generous.
The Thai chicken skewers came with a bed of veggies and had a great cilantro sauce that I dipped the chicken and veggies in.
For mains the boyfriend had the lamb burger and I had the seafood curry. The lamb burger was very unique, an open faced toast with a giant (!) chunk of lamb patty on top. It had eggplant on top and was very tender and tasty.
My seafood curry had a good variety of seafood, I especially liked the 3 giant shrimp in there. The curry was delicious.
I also really enjoyed the atmosphere, modern and bright. I will definitely come here again! -

"Possibly the best dinner I've had in 10 years," said my dinner mate while explaining the meal experience at Crazyweed. Forgive the Hallmark card statement, but I agree! (although this was probably my best dinner in 2 years; but I go out for dinner a lot).
My meal was frizze winter salad with roasted pecans in some kind of dressing from heaven then grilled sablefish in jasmine rice and steamed soybeans. Every. Single. Bite. Was. Excellent.
My friend ordered the steak and well, just wow; this is simply the kind of steak you expect in Alberta.
You may read here that the service is on the slow side. But I believe that this is an 'evening out' restaurant so I felt the service appropriate; professional, friendly and attentive without being in-your-face. Extra points to our server in particular who knew all the ingredients of each dish we were served without having to run to the kitchen to ask (I had a constant case of "OMG, what's IN this!?").
The food here is excellently, and lovingly, prepared, the service is high caliber and the wine selection great. I recommend you save a few pennies in a jar and make a date to go to this place.

My first impression of this place was 'crazyweed'? Who names their restaurant like this? But the name doesn't matter because the restaurant had a pleasant patio and the ambience is very relaxed and inviting. They had a great wine that I enjoyed so bonus points. We started off with some raw oysters. 1 word, delish! Then quickly ordered another dozen because it wasn't enough, well you can never have enough of raw oysters.
We ordered scallops and halibut ceviche as appetizers and let me tell you the halibut ceviche was to die for. I've never eaten rare halibut but the simple olive oil and lime gave it a burst of flavor, along with this special nut that gave it a crunch and kick in the end. The avocados blended well with the halibut and the dish was just simply stunning. A must try! The scallops on the other hand was decent. It comes with a bed of watercrest salad, might be a little bitter for your liking. But on the other hand, the scallops were cooked to perfection. It had a nice crust but still translucent in the inside. You don't want overcooked scallops!
My experience so far is off the roof. Let's see how the main course turned out.
We had clams linguini and ribeye steak. The clams from the pasta just melts in your mouth. It was soaked with the pasta sauce which made the texture dissolve just like butter. The pasta was a disappointment. It was way too overcooked. Definately not al dente. Almost like the pasta you get from the can, very soft and mushy. So that ruined the dish. Lucky the server was aware and took it off the bill. The ribeye steak was another disappointment. We asked for medium rare but it was more on the medium side and the cut was very chewy and definitely not top grade.
I didn't like their selection of desserts but we ordered the lemon merigue anyways to try. I know desserts are suppose to be sweet, but this was way too sweet. It tasted like pure sugar. There was no richness to it. Another fail! It's too bad the main course and dessert was a disappointment or else I would give it 4 stars. Lucky the Service was good and the atmosphere was welcoming. -

My wife and I had a great evening at Crazyweed! Our server was very attentive, knew the menu and answered all of our questions and was familiar with the wine list. We had the tomato & mozzarella starter (it was great); the smoked salmon entree and the moussaka entree were also very tasty and well presented. We are going to be in Canmore for the entire week and we will certainly return here for at least one more dinner. I highly recommend Crazyweed for dinner!

Good local food, of high quality. Service for lunch was quite slow, and the kitchen had some major issues getting our food out even after an hour. I have been here before, and the food was better 2-3 years ago than the last time I visited.

What an amazing dining experience!
Did we have to wait to be served? A little. Was there a time gap in between courses? Sure....a little.
The key to the dining experience was the food. It was cooked perfectly. Our entire group really enjoyed this meal. -

It's no coincidence that some of the best food and service comes out of tourist locations. That said, it doesn't surprise me that Crazyweed Kitchen is as amazing as it is.
After a long hike I stopped in here with a friend and Crazyweed is everything you'd want in a restaurant. Fresh ingredients, delicious food, excellent selection, innovative dishes, an expert staff and a welcoming location make Crazyweed a place that you're bound to enjoy during your next visit to the Rockies.
If you want healthy, tasty and delicious food, trust me, you'll want to try Crazyweed Kitchen ASAP. -
Review from Sherri C.
We stopped at Crazyweed on recommendation of our B&B hosts for our last evening meal of our trip. The food was excellent. We had a salad with blackberries, strawberries and goat cheese, and our two entrees were the Vietnamese grilled chicken and the steamed cod which came on top of a bed of edamame in fish sauce-enhanced broth. Service was okay, but did not meet up to the quality of the food. Crazyweed's interior is simple and colorful (typically Swiss -- as the owners are), with large framed photos and big picture windows of the majestic moutains nearby. The train goes by just a few hundred feet away and adds to the interesting atmosphere.
Unfortunately, those large windows make for a rather chilly temperature inside when the weather is not cooperating. I'm not sure if they just can't crank up the heat high enough to compensate, or they just don't bother. When we were there, it snowed that evening. If you're wearing layers, keep the coats on and enjoy some of the best food we found in the Canadian Rockies.Listed in: O Canada

The food here is fresh, imaginative and reasonably priced. The service was good and the only reason I'm only giving three stars is because thr food tooknsonling to come, which is likely because it is all prepared fresh, made to order. It was worth the wait, but it was a long time time to wait with our three children. I had the pomegranate chicken which was tasty and fresh. We will make a point of visiting here next time we are in Canmore.

If you ever decide to head out to the Rockies and happen to be hungry as you drive by Canmore, I highly recommend that you check this place out.
I know some Chowhounder's have complained about their service (expect to wait for your food and sometimes even be 'ignored' at the door when you first enter) but I love their food so much that the mediocre service isn't stopping me from going back.
My favorite route is to 1) pickup a brunch panini to go ($10) (that way you can avoid the mediocre service =) ha!) 2) park my car somewhere scenic and 3) just gulp it down.

So me and my sweetie were pumped for this.. I'd been saying how wonderful the food was and so had our friends. We showed up on time and the wine was poured ... a great start ... ONE hour and twenty minutes later we asked if they had any bread as our salad had not yet arrived.. they didn't have any left... OMG. About one hour and 30 minutes after arriving we received a strawberry spinach salad that we could have had anywhere. It didn't even have all the ingredients listed ( no arugula) Next came chicken and mashed potatoes. So what ....great organic chicken .... but again i could have got them at my local pub for much much less. Overall a disappointing evening and a hearty DO NOT go recommendation

This is the first yelp misdirect. The high ratings led us here and what's to like? The potatoes were raw - so hard I couldn't cut through them with a fork. My wife's salmon was over cooked. And our server dropped the food off and was never seen again. We left quietly but had to go to the front to get our check because the service was so bad. We eat out several times a week, we like to try new places and this was the worst dining experience we have had in over 30 years. Avoid at all costs (which at this place are very high).

Food - everything we had was great. Service - Our server was not so great. Our table was filled with empty glasses for most of the evening and she generally put off an "I don't care" vibe. Her attitude and the freezing temperature (we all put jackets on and steam was billowing off of warm dishes) soured us on what was otherwise a nice experience.
