We have only been here once. We went because they were sending around flyers about having live music on friday nights. The night we went we sat in the lounge area and listened to the two piece jazz band while we ate dinner. The food was pretty good, but for the price the portions were small. Service was excellent and the atmosphere in the lounge was romantic.

We haven't really had the desire to go back, though. I am not sure what it was about the place that we just didn't care for. I think it was probably the prices/portion thing but I think it is probably worth a repeat visit for lunch one of these days. I heard that they have stopped the live music, which is a drag because no one else around here does that that I am aware of.

Hard to find, but worth it, I don't know why the ratings are so low for this one.  I thought their food was delicious, with many vegetarian options to keep me happy.  Everyone in our dinner party of 5 really enjoyed their meals.  The roasted squash salad was especially tasty and the 3 course meals are a great deal.  Service pretty relaxed, but very friendly. Good bang for your buck and we're looking forward to going back again, and again!

Wow, that was some nasty breakfast.

I ordered the veggie eggs benny with a side of "hash browns". I'm not sure how you manage to screw up hash browns, but they managed to. These were not pan fried diced potatoes. Instead, they serve you two disgusting blobs of mashed potato with a small sear mark on top. Maybe they are leftovers? Who knows. The eggs were poached hard. Good job guys not being able to poach an egg. Hollandaise was bland, probably straight from Sysco. To top it off, they put a mixed green salad on the plate.  This is breakfast guys, green salad??? This horror show of a plate costed $11.

Should not have gone down this garden path.

Athenian salad was mainly romaine stalks covered with bottled Italian. Slices of cucumber and tomatoe were token. There were some red pepper flecks and olives did show.

Central Canada probably serves superior salmon.

My "love a special" dining partner barely got his special ravioli down.

Happy: tomatoe juice was on the menu, fries were good and service was friendly.

Along time ago, Cravings was a little hole in the wall in Marpole, where you could get some pretty decent food at a pretty decent price. The Two specialties that I loved were Spicy chicken Soup and Lasagna.

Today I found myself in Marpole and went back to Cravings for Lunch. They have expanded and Not for the better, the atmosphere is quaint, but the lunch sucked. My friend had the salmon and a salad, fish was old and tough. I had the special Meat tortellini and Frites... Frites were excellent, chef boy Ardee could have done better with the Tortellini & No garlic bread, the only upside was a 16oz beer for $3.50. It has been three+ hours and the Tortellini is still chasing the frites around... time for some more rollaids :o

A very clam restaurant (with bar) with occasional exotic specials. Fine for quiet company. Very quiet company. The good is better than average.

After 10+ visits,  I wish it was more memorable.

Cravings Bistro has the restaurant equivalent of multiple personality disorder.  And this is why I can only give it 2 stars despite its good food and service.

I have a weird relationship with Cravings.  I've liked the food every time I've visited.  The serving staff has always been friendly.  And yet I never really feel like eating there, despite the fact that I live spitting distance from it.

The problem is there is no one theme to their restaurant.  Cravings tries to be a restaurant for all occasions - brunch, sandwiches, haute cuisine, Greek family restaurant, lounge, sports bar - falling short for all of them.

They offer more expensive haute cuisine dishes ($22+) and serve them by candlelight in the evenings, but they have several TVs showing sports channels, ruining the effect.  But you wouldn't go there if you're looking for a sports bar though because there aren't enough TVs and you'd feel like you were disturbing other patrons if you got too into a game.

Cravings has two distinct areas in its restaurant, the decor of which couldn't be more different from each other.  The front area looks more like a family restaurant, while the back area has more of a lounge-y atmosphere.

The way this restaurant is set up is all very confusing.  I feel bad about the 2-star rating because, again, the food and service is great.  The problem is, when I go out for meals, atmosphere is one of the main things I think about.  I choose a category of restaurant based on the mood I'm in and because Cravings falls short in all categories, I almost always end up passing it over in favour of restaurants with more clearly defined themes.  Based on my experiences, I think they would be better off going with a Greek family restaurant theme that also has a brunch menu.

A friend took me here exclaiming "they have the best spicy chicken soup!" I am not a soup fan, but it was good. And I was hungry, so maybe anything was good at this point.

The setting however made me feel a bit schizophrenic. Is it a bistro? A restaurant? What's with the vinyl tablecloths that I swear to god we have at our old folks homes in BC? Oh my god, I'm hungry, let's make it quick & then let's go.

I was really hoping the renos to this place would be enough to make me like it and help this restaurant up from it's 2-star average. Unfortunately, while the decor is much improved from the other reviewers' descriptions, the food was kinda meh. Granted I only had one dish, but it was rather odd. I think had I gone with my original choice of the veg panini I would have ended up giving this place a 3-star. However, I decided to try the veg special (kudos for have a veg AND a meat special) which was a tofu and grilled vegetable tower, which came with a side, for $9 (lunch). I had the borscht with it, which was good. The main, like I said, was odd. The flavours seemed to be conflicting. The sauce on the grilled veg and tofu was teriyaki, but there was an abundance of artichoke in the meal and the flavours didn't really mesh. I would have preferred more peppers, or zucchini rather than the artichoke. I like artichoke, but in such quantities and with that sauce it wasn't in the right place. The tofu was very dense and in large slabs, so overall it was a rather heavy feeling meal. I think I had been hoping for a lighter fare.

The new decor is nice, but it seems they are going for a more formal look. I felt out of place in my jeans and sneakers and I got a lot of weird looks dining by myself. The back room, which I thought would be the more casual room, since it had a bar and tvs, was very dark, and actually seemed more formal than the front area. The clientele is definitely older, which is fine, but their advertising makes it clear they are trying to attract a younger crowd. The service is good, and the owner or manager came around to check on me, but it doesn't have a very young feel to the place, despite their efforts.

I was at Cravings just a couple days ago for a birthday with my family. I was immediately drawn to the decor with dark woods and cozy seating. It was a party of 5 and our server was very attentive throughout the evening. I order the Risotto Gallets, which came with a variety of veggies and served on a bed of edamame. My mom and sister order the Linguine Vongole in bianco, my husband the Cornish Game Hen, and my dad ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs. The presentation of our meals was fabulous. There were a few critiques with the meals, however. A couple of the meals were only luke warm, and the edamame that came with my meal were really dry. The risotto cakes were delishes, and I enjoyed my meal despite the dry beans. I think I would come back here for the cozy atmosphere, and to try another dish or too. They're not quite "there" with the food, but they're awfully close!
