I have gone to this wine bar chain many times in different cities. It is a low key, upscale wine bar with a great drink/ food menu. The prices are high, but everything is usually amazing. The lamb lollipops, pear and Gorgonzola pizza, and fondue  are to die for! I love the flights and they have half off bottles of wine during certain days.

Gotta say, "I LOVE this place"!

Delicious food! The wine was good, too. But, for me, the food was the amazing part.

This place is dark.  Literally.  How do they expect you to read the menus.  You see several people pulling out flashlights or using the lamps that are close by to view the menu.  The wait staff is decent.  The wines are foreign and California wines.  I was told by the waitress that the owner wanted a "worldly wine list".  That was after I asked if there were any Texas wines.    The food is delightful and come in small portions.  This place is good for Happy Hour since they do offer a HH menu.  It's not a place that I have to come back to or would recommend to anyone.
**I must note the Cru on Legacy is much better.  Better ambiance and they have a great Jazz player on Wednesday that is awesome.  I presume it's about demographics.

    Been here three times.

The first time I was here, I had one glass of wine... watched a girl vomit in the ladies room and then walk back to her date and french kiss the guy. Nice!

The second time, I was pretty lit by the time I got here... and starving, so everything we ordered was delicious. I especially remember enjoying the lamb chop lollipops and mussels. I did not like the champagne flight, however. Flights are reasonable... $10-12 for 3 glasses of wines of the same family. Nice, generous servings.

The third time, I was sober and having dinner with a friend that was visiting from out of town. I played up Cru quite a bit... and he wasn't impressed. Neither was I. The food wasn't as delicious and the waiter was eager for us to leave.

From my experiences, I learned that there are many things you enjoy much more when you're intoxicated: lousy food... and apparently vomit-flavored french kisses.

i want to give kudos to Cru,  We have been a customer for a long time.  We like the place as the food is always good and have decent service.   Last time we were there we showed up w/ our toddler on a nice afternoon for a light cheese plate . we knew they didn't have high chairs and we were willing to sit our kid in our lap.  I was very impressed with their staff that borrowed a high chair for my kid. She enjoyed the grapes, apples, bread, and mild cheese for snack , while we enjoyed the weather on a great saturday afternoon. Thanks Cru.  As parents of a toddler we have experienced bad attitude toward us because of the kid, completely  impressed with their cool attitude considering this place is more of a winebar/ bistro.

With the beautiful, inviting, cozy space that Cru has to offer, Cru is a wonderful place to bring a date for a delicate evening filled with romance, coziness, great wine, and food.
If you're not much of a wine drinker, I would suggest to ask your server for suggestions since they have always given me great recommendations from their great wine selection. Cheese and wine go well together, so if you're here and don't know what to get just ask your server. I'm sure you and your date will enjoy the overall experience!

Depending on what time, day of the week, or weather condition that you are planning to go, you need to plan ahead.  If it's a weekend with nice weather, then you should anticipate on waiting for a table for at least 30 minutes.  There is not really a waiting area for you to wait either, you would just have to stand in the doorway and gawk at the current diners and watch them enjoy their wine.  This location has a very intimate space, and dim lighting.  The music can be slightly loud at times, in which you can't really hear yourself or your party.

Service can be iffy at times, depending on whom services you for the evening.  The few times I have been there, I haven't experienced anyone terrible.  The waitstaff was quick to set up place settings in between guests and the waitress was pretty informative on the flights of wine that we inquired about.

I got the Riesling Flight.  Nothing to complain about the flight, it was pretty plain and simple.  Although I don't remember getting a sample to taste the Riesling.

As for the food, there have been many occasions that I have order the mussels and got pretty decent white wine mussels, but inconsistent garlic bread.  There have been times that I got fresh and not so fresh bread.  The bread is what makes the mussels good.  So if you get not so fresh bread, it ruins the combination of the mussels and bread consistency.

I have tried all of the different cheese boards that they have an like all of them, I wish that they would put more fruit on the boards rather than a few grapes and a couple slices of apples or pears.

Fantastic place to have a late night drink!  Of course, it is pretty small, so getting a table, sometimes, can be difficult.

The wine flights are delicious - I've had 3-4 of the red ones, and they have always been fantastic.

The best part though are the cheese and meat platters.  SO GOOD.  i've loved every type of cheese I've had and I always eat all the prosciutto in the meat platter since it is so delicious.

So other than the crowded spaces/ wait times during busy hours, it's a great place for drinks and food.

The decor and the lighting make the place feel very cozy.

I had a flight, and I have to say two things (a) that was no 2 oz pour.. it was more, and (b) I'm no wine connoisseur, at all, but those were 3 very good wines for $12.

The food menu looked good, but that'll have to wait for another time.  Let me say this.. from Yelp's reviews of this and Lemon Bar, you're better off here if you like wine.  LOL.

Hit up this locale while visiting the Dallas area.  Food was both good and bad, decor is awesome, servers are a bit strange.  LOVED the pear and gorgonzola pizza. The mussels were meaty. Ahi tuna tartare was eh... too much vinaigrette.  The lamb lollipops were tasty, but too fatty for my liking.

Negative moment: The bottle of wine (white) we ordered was not cold and the server waited for us to point it out.  We wanted it to chill to the temp of our liking but every 2 minutes she kept coming to check it and entice us to drink it "now."   She even said, "just be careful you don't want to ruin it."   Really?  How about you just serve it at the proper temperature!?

Cool spot to sip on some wine and eat moderately priced and tasting cuisine.

I have to agree with "hit or miss" review and unfortunately my experience was the "miss". This wine bar was not that different from any others in West Village. Pretty people, douches... very uptowny... But I bet I can find many other bars/restaunts with very similar characteristics.

Their service was really poor. We made a reservation but we had to wait for 30+ minutes. And the manager did nothing to apologize for it. We just waited 30 minutes. Really?

Compared to the Cru on Bishop, the one on McKinney had a lot to improve upon. I already talked about the service, but the ambiance and the food was not really impressive, either. Just uptowny food and ambiance compared to the one on Bishop with dark-library-like decor and excellent food and service.

I am willing to give it one more try since all other Yelpers' reviews are decent, but if that time is a "miss" again, I don't think Cru will be a wine bar of my choice in uptown

I would like Cru if our bartender wasnt such a douche.

First off, it was Sunday and my best friend was taking me out for my birthday. We were down at The Fish. I realized Cork was closed so we tried to call Bodega and it was closed too. So we gave Cru a call and I asked if they were open, the guy says, "obviously since I just anwsered the phone."  Well duh....but you dont have to be so rude Mr Posh.

So we walk on over and take a seat at the bar because it was pretty packed. My friend asks the guy if he anwsered the phone and he said "Ya was that yall's weird number?"  Weird? It was 713---Houston dude.

Anyway we tell him we like DeLoach wine and he doesnt know what that is and I tell him its about $25 a bottle. He says "oh crap wine?" Oh well sorry that I cant afford $60 bottles of wine every week. So then we ask if they have Silver Oak and he said no but suggested something similar. He explained that since it was Sunday they do 30% off bottles. So we settled on a bottle that was originally $120. We were very satisfied with our wine. We had been drinking already so were very chatty. The same bartender/winetender kept butting into our coversation about where we go to school and what we do. GO AWAY!!!!

Then when we went to pay my friend paid for the bottle and I agreed to pay the tip. All I had was $100 bill so I asked if he could break it. He says "ummm nooo, too bad". Well okay you wont get a tip then jerk off. Fortunatly for him the sweet, blonde bartender said yes they could break it and she did it for me. I didnt want to tip him after all his smart ass comments but I do have a heart afterall.

Overall, I may come back to Cru just because I want to try the food (they were cooking it up back there) but definatly not my first choice! Even my friend said you need to write a review on this place on whatever the hell that website is.....

I almost never go into uptown because it's so crowded, so it has to be a pretty interesting place or a special occasion. The time I went to Crú was a special occasion because a winery (Frog's Leap from Napa, CA) that we are members of their wine club had a party there. We had to park in the parking garage around the corner and walk but once we were inside the wine bar we recognized it was definitely worth the difficult parking.

They have floor to ceiling wine racks that are actually set into the walls which provides for a dark, homey feel inside the bar. It's actually pretty small but all of the Frog's Leap fans packed it full! John (the winery owner) was going around from table to table pouring wine and talking with everyone, so it was a blast.

They came around with small trays of snack food and although I'm sure it's a little different from their actual menu, I'll share:
-Small pizza slices that had goat cheese and a spicy red sauce
-Stuffed figs (pretty good, I couldn't identify what was in them from the tiny bite I got, but they tasted good)
-Seared ahi tuna (this came on a little cracker and was super yummy)
-Potato with a green veggie thing that I couldn't get anyone to tell me what it was (this one wasn't very good)
    -Beef on a crustini (yum)

Overall I liked the snack foods enough, and the environment, to definitely want to come back at some point. I just haven't had the opportunity! They have a great selection of wine, and anyone that carries Frog's Leap in large amounts is good in my book.

We arrived at 7:45pm and ordered around 8pm. Service was a little slow but we didn't mind until it hit 9pm and our entrée FINALLY arrived.

The reason being, is one waitress took our appetizer order while the other took our main course order and she didn't put in the order. Later she said (her excuse) she was just helping our main waitress. Then why
did she take our menus if she wasn't going to log in our order? HELLO? Basics?

There was no apology from the waitress. Nor was there any sort of: I am sorry about the miscommunication. She just went on blaming the customer...

Also our main waitress went to our neighboring table often and maybe came to ours 3 times. We saw the water bus boy more than her. We began to think it was because we are Asian or we were not dressed in uptown attire?

Honestly, I REALLY likeD Cru and we were not going to leave a tip at all but left 10%. We all thought that was far too generous for the way we were treated tonight.

Cru's food is QUITE excellent and you serve Orin Swift... but if service is this BAD I rather go to somewhere where the staff are happy you are here.

    Uptown girl
Shes been living in her uptown world.
I bet she never had a back street guy
I bet her mama never told her why

This popular Billy Joel song was running thru my head as Melody L and I wined and dined this past Thursday evening at Cru, located in the middle of Uptown. Whenever I visit a new city I like to play the game "which neighborhood would I live in if I lived here" and Uptown is definitely "my neighborhood" in Dallas.  The shopping- oh my! The restaurants- oh my! And of course the wine bar....why hello Cru!

Cru might have just been the perfect ending to a fun few days in Dallas.  Great service, terrific food (see Melody L's description of the delicious mussels and cheese plate) and I loved every bit of my Sauvignon Blanc wine flight.

Sure, Billy...I'll be your Uptown girl.

The sun was shining, a surprisingly mixed and festive crowd was clammering for seats on every patio in the West Vilalge, and very cute boys were asking me to hold their dog's leash while they ran into the Magnolia to buy some tickets. Wait, where's my ticket? Sigh, I bet you ask all the girls to hold your leash. Is it even your dog?! Yikes, sorry I'm back.

After catching a movie at the Mag (go see Burn After Reading) mi companion y yo were not ready to end the day. We had window shopped every store, perused the goodies in the frisky lingerie shop and banged on the glass where the Paul Frank used to be. Whhhyyyyyyyyy????? Does no one else want a bright green Velcro wallet with cute monkeys on scooters riding across it?! Oh I see, I guess you have too many T-shirts that say you're big in Japan and underoos decorated with blue raccoons, mini giraffes and worrisome bears reminding you of the days of the week. FINE. Then stay out of my closet!

Anyway yes, done with the movie, want to do something else, had enough shopping, BOOM. Time to go to Cru. Again the perfect lil' table was waiting for us. The waitress was very cute, super nice and always there to refill our glasses with the summer South African white. It was a bit fruity, but was perfect for a sunny day. I was tempted to order something from the menu again but A) I was still full from brunch and B) we were probably going to hold onto the night by grabbing dinner later. Anyone else have the Richard Marx song in their head now? Yes? No? Shall I sing it again? Hoooold ooonto the niiiight! Hoooold oooonto the meeeeemories! Oh jeez.

I know it's a chain, but I can't help but love this wine bar. It's always dark, cozy and inviting...just the right atmosphere for sipping on some Pinot!

I've been here countless times for girls night out, happy hours with coworkers and meetings. The location is superb and the staff is always spot on with recommendations.

On my last visit, I took note that they serve a wide variety of food. This has probably been the case the whole time, but I never noticed because I drink my dinner :)

I highly recommend the champagne flight and any of the cheese platters. Be prepared on the weekends though, because this place is busy enough for happy hour that I can only imagine what a Friday night looks like!

We had a wonderful time at Cru the other evening for a friend's birthday dinner.  There were eight of us and the service was extremely attentive, at times a bit much.  However, the atmosphere is adorable.  The walls are covered with wine and it is quite a small restaurant.  You can go for wine and cheese, appetizers or full entrees.  We enjoyed a couple of the cheese platters.  While neither the cheese nor wine were the best I have ever had, the environment was fun and it was definitely worth a visit.

I had a couple of wine flights and it was interesting trying three different wines.  They start with the cheap and get more expensive in the flight.  There were probably two out of the six that were extremely tasty.  For dinner, I took the waiters suggestion and ordered the seabass.  It did not disappoint.  It was grilled and seasoned to perfection with a tomato and lima bean sauce.  I know it sounds strange but I ate every bite.

So, for a fun evening with friends or a romantic evening for two, Cru knows how to serve it up.

Been here a few times, never really been that impressed. The service is wonderful, but if you want to eat anything other than an artisan cheese platter, the food is actually pretty terrible. Most recently had the Ahi tartare and it was so incredibly oily and salty. Wine flights are $12-$14, what you would expect for a wine bar and they do have a good selection on bottles and a happy hour from 4-7pm weekdays. Probably best to go here for a decent glass of wine to hang out on the patio with a good group of girls, but pass on the food and duck out to any of the better places to grab a bite in West Village/Uptown area.

Cru definitely has a great atmosphere - the lighting is dark, the wait-staff is attentive, and the wine selection is large.  Sadly, that's where the goodness ended for me.  The wine we got, a 2005 Boots Grenache ($36) was very drinkable, but I was quite disappointed when I saw it at Wal-Mart this morning for $11.68.  I know that there is always a markup on wine at restaurants, but a 200% markup? Sheesh.

As to the food, I had the Portobello Pizza and my wife went with the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup.  The pizza dough was well-cooked, the portobellos were nicely sauteed, but by the time the pizza got to me, it was warm at best, and the cheese had started congealing.   The tomato soup was good, if not a little sweet, and the sandwich was perfect.

My real issue comes down to the out the door price for the above - $80 after tax and tip for 2 people.  One can go to many other restaurants and have a better meal with wine for that much.

I adore the decor. It's so chic and intimate and cozy. I love the large selection of wines on their menu, and I appreciate that they serve a variety of food.

What didn't impress me was the tasting. While I did taste 3 wonderful bubbly wines, the pour was skimpy and I wasn't impressed with only getting to try 3. Perhaps I am spoiled with Winetastic and their generous tastings, but value is important to me. I was also pretty shocked by the markup on their bottles, though they do have 1/3 off and 1/2 off bottle nights, which would definitely be the night to go.

Other than the prices being a turnoff, I was impressed with the kind and attentive staff. The outdoor seating was also a plus. Just be aware, you are in the pretentious neighborhood so you're surrounded by it here. Seems less of a place to learn about and appreciate wine and more of a place to "be seen."

This is a nice wine bar for the area.  While visiting Dallas I got a suggestion from someone to check Cru out because there was a wine tasting going on.  I took on the reccommendation with full force as I can't try enough wines out there.

I like the set up for wine tastings, but the place is a little small so there's not much room to roam around and mingle.  I do like how the servers pass around hors d'oeuvres as you enjoy the wine.   This place is not bad for tastings, but could use a little tweaking.

The wine choices offered during a normal basis are masterfully chosen.  I really was in heaven looking at the wall of wine with the choices that they had to offer.  Someone must have done their homework with what wines to offer the patrons.  Whether you want a great bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, or any other varietal you will find it here.

If I lived nearby I'm sure I would be a regular to this establishment.

There are certain things in life that should be a challenge. Decathlons. Law School. Quantum Physics. War and Peace.

But drinking wine with friends? Not a time to strain your brain.
Meet Cru, the wine bar/restaurant that's been peppering Dallas with locations in the West Village and Plano. At Cru Wine Bar, the idea is all about relishing a truly exceptional glass. In fact, the relaxing experience is as important to the owners as your wine's vintage, grape or "flavor profile."

At Cru, you're sure to find a never-ending menu of top-notch, exceptional and even hard-to-find wines...but what you won't find is the attitude that accompanies many wine bars. Cru is for those who just love wine...plain and simple. So, get comfortable...you won't have to worry about long dissertations on a wine's heritage or the fussiness of a particular Sicilian grape, and no stuffy sommeliers to snicker at your tasting routine (or lack thereof). But, don't get me wrong, should you be inclined to "talk shop" and contemplate a vineyard's penchant for velvety finishes...they'll be more than happy to oblige. And since we all know that wine is best enjoyed with food, Cru has a menu of "Sharing Plates" including Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and Cheese Fondue with Truffle Oil. Or try one of the chef specials, we recommend the "Sinful Experience of Italian Cheeses" and the Payaya entree.

Dcor-wise, Cru's has outfitted their spaces with rich woods, intimate candle-lit tables, and a secluded private dining area. But the real draw here is their towering two-story wall of wine that makes this lounge feel more like an old English parlor than a Dallas wine bar and eatery.

A word to the wise: Arrive early. As the word gets out, getting a good seat here will be all but impossible.

Seating at the bar, or at a table -- I've been here on a date, with a group, as well as meeting up with friends for a drink during the week.
    Servers are knowledgable and prompt.
Some items on the menu are seasonal -- missing the creamy crab dip - my friend said, it was, 'heaven in your mouth' --
I highly reccomend the fruit plate with chocolate fondue for dessert --

Finally checked out Cru - overall impression is nice place!  We shared 2 bottles of wine and a couple cheese plates over about 3 hours. Not sure why we didn;t order dinner, I guess because we weren't initially planning on being there so long.  Oh well - it was a leisurely evening. The service was good, and it was a lovely night for sitting outside which afforded some interesting people watching as well.  The down side?  I think it is ridiculously over-priced.  Though I enjoyed it, it didn't create a "must return as soon as possible" feeling, and not sure when I will be back.... maybe when I get a raise ; )

Even though I had just stuffed myself on pizza at Campania, my friend and I HAD to try the fried brie.  Let me tell you...each bite was a little bit of heaven and went perfectly with my "European Vacation" wine flight.  I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time at this wine bar.  Unfortunately, their wasn't too much of a crowd that mingled, but it's great for a quiet night with friends or a date.

I liked this wine bar and the bartender.  he was really friendly and knew quite a bit about wine.  Well at least it seemed like it to me.. I don't know a whole lot about wine. lol  It was a hit for me.  As for douches they re all over uptown and the big D.  People to be dealt with when u have too but I judge places more on the waitstaff, bartenders, prices, food and drink.  I think this place is great for the bartender, the location and their wine choices.  Oh and I love the decor! When it comes to wine... especially red wine... I will automatically be a fan of most wine bars.  Location is always key. So Cru Bar would get a 5 for being smack in the middle of the cool & hip West Village of Uptown. It's always an added plus when you can walk to a wine bar as oppose to driving or cabbing it... the area sort of reminds me of a modernized Marina in San Francisco.  I love the patio seating on the sidewalk and the intimate European ambiance would stimulate anyone to order a flight of their wine.  My favorite that night was the Bergstom winery "Shea Vineyard" Pinot Noir.  The recommended mussels and the sea bass were amazingly delicious.  The service was   was impeccable... Jacob was not only attentive but cool because i mentioned that quite a few of the shells of the mussels were empty and no extras were found in the broth... i later found out he credited that portion from the bill... i didn't expect that.

So why the 3 star rating?  I know this place should easily be a 4-5 star, but honestly was not impressed with the exorbitant prices.  Seriously the Bergstom is an Oregon wine... 2 glasses for nearly $60.  Unfortunately, I know I will be back again, because of all the other reasons that I mentioned earlier.  Just won't be going here every other night like some places in the city (SF).

A good place to go on a nice evening.  They have a small patio area out front and big doors to open so the inside has a patio feel where you can enjoy the evening, too.  You can order flights of wine (think sampler) where you get partial glasses of 3 different wines from the same region or of a similar style.  They also give you a card telling the inticracies of each of the wines, so you can learn what wines you like or dislike

Ok, so I don't like many places in the West Village but I have found a reason to drive over 75. Met someone for a glass of wine last night and we sat on the patio since it was so nice. I had the flight of Syrah and for 17 you get about the equivalent of almost 2 glasses of wine. I liked all the wines and they were even served at the proper temp which is rare in Dallas. We had the mussels, ahi sesame tuna, and the hangar steak. The steak was definitely the best of the three. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well, it came on a bed of mixed greens with a nice light oil dressing. The mussels were my 2nd fav and came with some nice crusty bread to dip the broth they were served in. The tuna was just ok, slightly overcooked, but was still tasty. The service was excellent as well....all in all I will be back.

Met a few high school friends here after work a couple months ago. We split a bottle of sparkling white wine, which yikes! I was not expecting to be that expensive, even split three ways. But the atmosphere was great, very cozy, I really love how the wine bottles line the walls library-style. I think it's a little too froo-froo pretentious-Dallas for me to go to regularly, but if someone else was picking up the tab I'd love to try some of their food items sometime.

Good selection of wines overall.  I've been there twice.  FIrst time had some incredible port which I drank too much of and could not remember the name of the next day.....last weekend got some merlot that was too sour for me, but the rest of the table seemed to like.  I'm glad to see they've added more food and will be back to try it for dinner.  They could manage to expand as the space is quite tight.  Perhaps they could take over the restaurant next door that has had 6 names in the last year.....love the velvet curtains on the way in the door also.

Meh. Their skimpy wine pours really turned me off. Overpriced B.S.  It's too bad because this place had potential

My friends Kevan use to work here, haven't been back in years. I do remember their appetizer pizza to be wonderful.

Great concept, every wine gets their own decanter. This is the only way you should drink the wine after they get some fresh air. The wine menu is extensive and very tempting to order them all, but all the decanters will never fit on the table. The prices were reasonable for the location that Cru was in. I would definitely come back for more.
