Their cornbread. Hot dang, it's tasty! You can take-away mixes for their cornbread I do believe. The Tortilla Soup is definitely worth stopping by for... The pizza is unreal as well, nice thin crust and yummy toppings! I've heard they serve breakfast too.
Intimate, quite small space, with slightly New Mexian-inspired decor. Great service, very personable and friendly.
This is a family fave when we are driving through the mountains and are craving some lunch. -

Nice quiet restaurant.
I really enjoyed their corn chowder, suprisingly good veggie burger. My friend who had the polenta said it was the best she has ever had.
Pricey, but then again what isn't in Banff.. -
Review from Kelly B.
We only had breakfast here once, but after a few days of lighter fare for our morning meal we had a hankering for something hearty. This was a good place for that without sacrificing all nutritional considerations. Nothing at all like a greasy spoon (which is good in my book), just some great, filling choices with healthier preparation.
The service was alright, nothing memorable in a positive or negative way. The food came relatively quickly, not that it would have mattered much to us. I had the heuvos rancheros which were absolutely delicious, though heavier on the cheese than I prefer. My other half had the smoked salmon scrambled eggs and gobbled up every bite.
We really enjoyed the small cafe atmosphere. It was lovely walking in from the cold and sitting down to a steaming cup of coffee and tea. Overall Banff dining is expensive, but the prices here weren't outrageous. Would definitely come again and recommend to anyone for some hot eggs on a cold morning. -

If you are not a fan of game meats and bad fried food that's also outrageously priced you may find difficulties eating in Banff. suddenly, McDonalds may look very appealing.
So, this place is a gem. It offers a healthy alternative. Again, they don't just have salad and more salad, but in contrast to the rest of food places, it doesn't have a deep fryer. Everything we tried was tasty and very reasonably priced, which is another unique thing for Banff. It is casual, so this is not a place to dress up and have a candlelight dinner. -

We've been to Coyotes numerous times in Banff and find it one of the better, affordable eateries. It's small restaurant with everyone packed in close, but it lends to the cozy atmosphere. It's one of the better places for a quiet family meal.
Service is always good and the food is very tasty. They don't have numerous selections on the dinner menu, but what they do have they make quite well.
Coyotes is probably not suitable for a quick dine if you have to head somewhere else for the evening. Rather, if you want to sit down with friends and family, have a good meal, and good wine I'd definitely recommend it. We've even been known to drive from Calgary for a meal. -

This was my third visit to Coyotes, and already I can't wait to return.
I was a little hungover and felt a bit rushed (therefor grumpy)as we were meeting a large table for lunch. It's a very busy little spot and we were lucky to get the staff to move two tables together for our gathering. The staff was kind and quick. the coffee cups were always full, the kids had crayons and paper. Interesting menu to temp even the palest member of the party. I ordered the double huevos rancheros. The beautiful, sunny side up eggs were layered on top of blue corn tortillas and smothered with salsa, cheese, beans with avocado on the side. I ate the whole thing! The chicken quesidillas looked good and judging by the way they disappeared I'm sure they were tasty. Among the favorites were the smoked salmon bagel and ham & cheese melt. Yummy. -

Although we had been to Banff many times, we had never tried Coyotes. I'd heard good things so we stopped by for a late lunch at 3pm. It wasn't too busy at that time and our food came pretty quickly. This was really handy as we had our toddler with us.
They had boosters, high chairs and a kids menu. The kids menu wasn't too bad and even had a grilled chicken option. The Black Bean Chili and Huevos Rancheros from the adult menu are similarly priced would also be great kids options. My little guy had his heart set up pizza and we settled on the BBQ chicken pizza (with mushrooms). He loved it. And I thought it was awesome too.
My husband had the BBQ flanked steak. He liked it but found it had a lot of competing strong flavors. I had the perfect lunch special with a half turkey club and corn tortilla and chicken soup. The sandwich was fine, but pretty unremarkable and I found the chicken soup to be a little oily. -

Pretty standard modern breakfast fare.
The prices were ok, the portions are were but the service is pretty slow.
We went there for breakfast and there is no way an egg dish, bagel and fruit salad should take 25minutes.
That aside, the food was good. The freshly squeezed juices were great. -

We had dinner. Appetizer of shrimp quesadilla was excellent. Bean burrito with chorizo was quite good too. The food was tasty but not all that creative and pretty expensive. Service slightly perfunctory.

If you are planning a visit to Banff, do us both a favour. Have breakfast, lunch, dinner or all of the above at Coyotes.
Coyotes is a cute little restaurant just off the downtown strip in downtown Banff. I've been a couple times and both times I've been, the service has been great and the food has been PERFECT.
Most recently, I ordered 'The Perfect Lunch'. It's a combo where you get half a sandwhich & a big bowl of soup for $10. It's a steal. The half a sandwhich is big enough to be considered a full sandwhich, and the soup is so hearty that you will most definitely be full. And it's the 'wow that was delicious and healthy and I feel good' kinda full, not the 'gawd that was greasy and disgusting and I feel like I'm going to explode' kinda full.
My sister, who was with me, ordered their cornbread. Apparently this place is KNOWN for their cornbread. Apparently it was DELICIOUS. I say 'apparently' because NO I didn't try any. There's a reason though. I'm one of those weird food people that can't eat 'confusing foods' and because their cornbread is BLUE it makes it confusing to me, so I didn't want any. But it smelt good and I assure you, if my sister said it was good, it was GOOOOOOD.
I'd recommend Coyotes to anyone and everyone. It's especially good for people who want to eat out but are trying to watch what they eat. All the dishes at Coyotes are made from scratch with the freshest ingredients. MMMMMMMM DELISH. -

Great spot right in the heart of town. My wife and I came to town on business and after eating a superb dinner, we had to come back and try a breakfast, and breakfast was just as good as dinner.
Decor is typical Southwestern style, (muted pastel colors, woven rug design elements, etc)
Wine list was by far the best we found in town with some GREAT values in the Aussie reds. We had a great McLaren Vale Shiraz with dinner. The wine was served (and likely stored) just a bit warm for my taste, but then again, I'm super picky/OCD about wine service, so...)
Service was super friendly, fast, and carried out in an incredibly professional manner for dinner. Breakfast service was a warmer relaxed version of the night service.
Food was very good, for dinner: shared a gourmet quesadilla as an app (very good), and for the main course we had the salmon special, and the featured pork chop dish (served over an amazing mashed squash, yum), both dishes were superb.
Breakfast was very good as well! Coffee was strong and plentiful, breakfast burrito was tasty, and their breakfast potatoes were amazing.
Highly recommended! -

Still great after many years.

It's a small place but a has a nice atmosphere. Our waitress was great but the food was inconsistent. i started with the spinach and goat cheese salad which was fantastic - I think there was cumin in the dressing which gave it a nice southwestern flavor. But I had the chicken enchilada for dinner and I was disappointed. It was a stacked presentation so a bit hard to eat and the chicken itself was terribly dry. There was a sauce on the plate but it just didn't seem like the flavors all came together. It may have been 'user error' but that in itself should tell you something. We were there for dinner with a large group. Some people loved their meal (the flatbread was a hit) but others were not impressed.

I wouldn't say they have amazing or fast service, but the food was good and they actually had vegetarian options and avocado! can't find that often in canada. :)

I went here because of the great reviews I read here on yelp, and I must say I was not disappointed. The food is great, and so is the atmosphere. Truly Gourmet! Eating here was a delightful experience

We've been coming here for years - always for lunch - and we are always happy with what we get. Their food quality is high and very consistent. Prices are reasonable and, understandably, the place is frequently crowded. You leave with the impression that the people at Coyotes like and understand food.

Great food and great service. Definitely the best place we went to in Banff.

First off I'd like to thank the yelpers who reviewed this place prior to my wife and I visiting. We were looking for a tasty breakfast and ended up going back for a lunch and a dinner over the course of two days. It seemed difficult for us to find some quality food while visiting Canada but we definitely lucked out in finding this place. To keep this on the short all I'm going to say is to echo what has previously been said. Do yourself a favor and have a meal here, I doubt you'll find much else that compares with comparable prices. One last heads up, the calzone rustica (if I'm remembering correctly) was divine. It's hard to imagine going wrong with anything on the menu though.

Went for breakfast. We had the mountain man and the smoked salmon and eggs dishes. Both portions were large and were tasty. We didn't feel hungry until 3pm. The only downside is that this place is rather busy and our waitress didn't seem overly concerned with anything above taking our order and giving us our plates. That was fine for us, but didn't leave us with a friendly vibe.

We had an okay meal on our first visit to Coyotes a couple of years ago. But our second visit did not yield the same results.
This past visit, I ordered the tagliatelle and it was so-so. The cream sauce was a little thicker than I like but the mushrooms and prosciutto jazzed it up and gave good flavor. Unfortunately, the noodles were not quite al dente, especially the noodles that were on the perimeter of the plate. It seemed like the heat from the middle of the dish helped to cook the pasta a little more in the center. That helped. I wouldn't chance it again because I just do not like crunchy pasta. My husband ordered a steak and was quite disappointed with the flavor. I had a taste and was surprised to find that the beef tasted like nothing. It was surprising because it sure looked good but, again, zero flavor. The server was very good and she made us a fresh pot of decaf, which we always appreciate, but it wasn't very good coffee. It tasted like very weak everyday Maxwell house or something. I will say that the little starter salad I had ($7) was tasty enough. It had a nice salad dressing on it (too little, though) and a couple of little pieces of roasted pepper on it.
We'll be trying other restaurants when we return to Banff, although I see by other reviewers that they serve up a good breakfast so we'll have to try Coyotes for that because we do love a good breaky! -

The sweet potato corn chowder was tasty and subtle; the huevos rancheros was almost fluffy; the salmon was not dry; the prices are pretty good.

We recently went to the Banff Film Festival and had two meals ( breakfast, and dinner ) at Coyotes Southwestern Grill. I would have given this place a 5 star rating except for one point -- the hostess made us feel that we were a terrible inconvenience rather than a welcome guest. The food, however was amazingly good. I would highly recommend the marinated steak with local vegetables. The chef certainly knows how to treat a vegetable when cooking it. Just the right level of crispness yet the flavors were brought out with just the right amount of heat.

i spent a summer living in Banff and this was one of my fave breakfast/lunch spots. the food was nothing fancy but always tasted good, portions were right and the prices were low. definitely good value. they have a great half sandwich/salad lunch deal that's perfect for those who want a bit of variety and can't handle a full sandwich. not too much selection as far as drinks go (i didn't like the unsweetened iced tea) but there's nothing wrong with water.

Lunch for family of 5 was good with good kid options and adult southwest food. Great location.
