This hotel is billed as the only hotel in the ByWard Market, and it certainly is in the thick of things.  Perhaps it's a bit too immersed in it as the impression one initially gets upon arriving is that it's quite rundown, and fronts some of the busiest streets.  Yes.  The exterior looks beaten up as compared with the photo on the Marriott website.  Also the lobby is quite small and not attractive, very tired.  The good thing is that it's literally steps to the ByWard Market's restaurants and shopping.  And it's only a few minutes walk to Parliament Hill and not that far at all from the Alexandra Bridge (partly pedestrianized) that one can use to cross over to the Quebec side (Gatineau).

The staff are quite friendly and accommodating such as allowing a generous 2 pm check out for our stay when we requested it.  The breakfast attendants and managers are quite efficient.  I suppose they have been trained to ask the guest how the breakfast is as more than one attendant asked us daily.  The only thing is breakfast is not a buffet type anymore but a choice of one meal and drink from the menu (this is in reference to purchasing a room and breakfast package).

Also the rooms seem to have recently been renewed though the bathroom was only partially renewed.  The free WiFi in the room was quite efficient as was the a/c except the unit is quite noisy.

The service was really good! 4 stars. The front desk staff were really helpful, and kind.

The hotel itself is conveniently located. It's right in the middle of the Byward Market, and also walking distance to the convention centre. The hotel itself isn't super fancy, and actually had a bit of a funky smell, but if you aren't looking for a romance or luxurious experience, this would be fine for my usual "sleeping only" hotel use.

    Free wifi.

Stayed at the Marriott and found a lack of sufficient parking. Even though we paid for parking we were not told that it wasn't necessarily on site. We arrived back at the hotel at 11 pm, only to find the parking was full and we were given a chit for parking that was 2 blocks from the hotel. The parking garage was dark and there was a lack of security. We were 2 women alone and were concerned for our safety. We spoke to the head desk and they were not given any resolution to the problem and were told they could do nothing. Consequently we will look for alternatives in the future

This hotel was conveniently located near all the major attractions of Ottawa. If you stayed here, you would be within walking distance of most of the major museums, memorials and parliament.
The staff was amazingly friendly: going above and beyond describing locations, helping us find where we wanted to go.The staffer even explained Canadian national holidays to us in a gleeful manner, akin to school child reciting middle school history. What great service. This is the first time in a long while that I've encountered a service person genuinely happy to be providing service.

Small (4 floors) but ample accommodations similar in nature to most all Courtyard locations around  the US (not sure about Canada). Free Wifi that seems to work pretty well.

The rooms are clean and house keeping does a good job of getting things turned around for you quickly.

the location of this Courtyard is key, right in the heart of the Market district of Ottawa, this is a real gem of a place.
