Shopping here can be an exercise in appreciating the quirky nature of your fellow man. Especially when your fellow man decides to park his cart on the equivalent of the Costco Deerfoot while he decides which items he absolutely cannot live without, but didn't know it until that moment. Usually it's something really important like the Dora the Explorer Snow Shovel / Wireless Router. Phew!
Luckily, I have a handy tip that will save you money AND reduce any sort of shopping cart related anxiety you may have while at Costco. Ready for this life changing revelation?
Don't get a cart.
Shockingly simple, yet difficult to resist. Where will all the impulse purchases go? The answer - impulse purchases will be minimized. Everything you want to purchase must be carried in the reusable shopping bags that you bring with you.
Picture working your way efficiently through the store, selecting what you need (they do have an excellent meat section) while avoiding the barrel of mayonnaise or pallet of pizza. No more traffic jams, no more frustration. You arrive at the checkout in 20 minutes, calmly unload your items and rejoice smugly at the fact that your purchases don't require a second mortgage.
In the parking lot you simply place your bags in the car, no more carts to return or frustration about that damn wheel that just won't roll. You drive off relaxed because you get access to fantastic products at excellent prices, without feeling like you're going to murder your fellow shoppers because they don't understand the rules of the road.

So coming here on December 23 is not a good idea. Never mind trying to find parking, good luck trying to make the left turn into the parking lot if you're coming south on Heritage.
Once you do manage to get in here it's every man for himself. This goes for a busy Saturday in the summer, not just a few days before a major holiday. Hang on tight to your cart because you're about to go on a wild ride. Watch out for the old ladies. If you didn't think they knew how to drive a car, check out what happens when they try to push a shopping cart the size of a small automobile.
The saving grace here is that they always have a ton of staff so you'll get through the register fairly quickly when you're done your shopping. -

Why the hell do I have a Costco membership?? I'm single and in my 20's. The frozen food section has nothing vegan in it. If I'm throwing a party; I can see the produce section helping me out, but otherwise it's too wasteful for me to shop for produce in bulk. And Costco doesn't take coupons.
However! Costco has some amazing finds, for ridiculous cheap. You can buy books here at cost or US prices sometimes (perfect for birthdays and Christmas), a designer cardigan for under $20, the biggest tubes of Glysomed I have ever seen (my winter skin rejoices!), and you can get things like unsweetened Coconut Milk in bulk. Perfect for my summertime homemade ice cream making! Not to mention, when my dude friends realize I have a Costco membership, they decide it's the perfect time to stock up on... er... family planning supplies. Hey, I'd rather help them buy THOSE in bulk than diapers!
So why do I renew every year? Because of all the reasons above, but mostly, because every time I see the goofy-ass picture of me on the back of my membership card (I was dragged in one morning when I was 19, grumpy and fresh out of bed!) I crack the eff up. And that's totally worth $35 a year ;). -

I love costco!!!! Man do i love costco! Yeah its souless to the tenth degree and I dont care! its a great place to get certain items! Here is a list of some of my favorite features.
-Meat department- Really great, they have a wide selection at wholesale prices! the beef selection really shines!!, and I love how you can see all the meat people in the back spraying down their butchering tables with hot soapy water. thats one clean operation!
Cheese- Yep, believe it or not costco carries some world class cheese (not super huge selection) but they got all the staples and occasionally some really cool suprises. I always get my parmigiano reggiano here a nice huge wedge its last me for months and then i make minestrone with the rinds!
Concession- Two words, HOT DOG! best cheap hot dog in the city! 2 bucks for a big dog and a drink, with all the toppings you could want! pizza is ok to. apparantly the poutine aint bad either but I always go for the dog. The workers are often very grumpy, i find it amusing and by the time I get my dog i dont even remember
Odds and ends- everything from golf clubs (i hate golf) to stereos and big screen TV's, random funiture car tires, batteries! I always enjoy walking around and looking at this crap! Its very fun!
Samples- Yes on a saturday afternoon always at least three people dealing out some food, the best part is they rarely remember you so you can always come back for seconds!! having a staff thats this impersonable has its advantages!
Bakery- The bakery at costco is wicked! much much better than any safeway or co-op. I highly reccomend you get a membership just so you can get their croissants! they are high quality! taste like they came out of a french baking school!
Ok that about covers it ! -

I must like it. I keep going back. The lines are horrid, this is one of the busiest Costco's in North America but high turnover = fresh goods.
Tonight I saw Ron McLean signing his latest book there. You never know what you'll find.
They have a great return policy as well. -

"Are we really gonna be the people with a diaper shed?"
The above, from Modern Family, about sums up the Costco experience. My wife and I have been members since we shacked up, but I could count on one hand the number of times we have been here for serious shopping. I find most of their products to be merely okay, and when you are forced to buy them in bulk, you can often save money.
However, there are certain items worth coming in for:
- their cheese section is extensive and varied; you could find a lovely smoked gouda, a wheel of brie, or just a bag of Babybels to satisfy your dairy needs;
- the cereal selection is not huge, but the portions are, and when you find one you like (Nature's Valley Pumpkin seed flax, for example), it is worth stocking up - especially we whose primary staple food is cereal!
- the books are often the typical bestselling pap, but they are at wholesale price - and hence much lower that Chapters, so if you find that special Dan Brown illustrated edition you need to have, or Steve Jobs' bio, this is your best bet;
- the chocolate truffles during the holidays are LEGIT and incredible;
- and of course the samples! During a lengthy shopping trip with my parents as a kid, I ate solely the samples as my three meals, and it was glorious. And let's not forget the hot dogs: not sure what they put in them, but on our last trip I had two and I was full (like, completely satisfyingly full) for the rest of the day. And it was only three bucks!!
Actually, a Costco date might be a totally legitimate date...just avoid Saturday afternoons.

Oh Costco. Love this place! Unfortunately the days I usually go are Saturday mornings, so it's my own damn fault when I find it difficult to move around, or when waiting in line for an exceptionally long time.
There's not really much to complain about Costco and the items themselves, nor their quality. Yeah once or twice those triple chocolate cookies weren't that great, but beyond that I've never had a problem there. Their clothes section tends to be pretty messy (customers fault, not Costco's) but the stuff they have is nice, organized underneath the mess, and with a decent stack of sizes. The samples are also always lovely and the people running those stations are quite efficient at trying to make sure they don't run out of samples.
If you look past the lines, the service at the cash desks is exceptional. They have most cash lines open when it's busy and will have one person to ring items through, and another to pack. One time while shopping here with my mom we only had about ten items in the cart, and someone offered to ring through our purchase while we were in line since we weren't buying much. When we finally reached the cashier we gave them our card, and the whole purchase was right there and ready to be paid for. I don't really know what the place could do to speed things up more.
Plus the fact Costco is in a shopping complex just off Deerfoot makes it even more worthy of five stars. -

I have heard that this is the busiest Costco in Canada.
... I believe it.
While the long lines and high tensions would make you think I would give this store maybe a 2 or a 3 star rating (based on the fact that ALL Costco's are pretty much exactly the same aside from these factors!), I find that I feel impelled to give it a 4.
Perhaps it is my pride in our ability to make such a claim, perhaps it is because it is the first Costco that I frequently visited (other than the one I went to a few times when I lived in the Bay Area), but this one just feels like home. -

Ok, I know that this is a bit of a weird review, but it warranted addition because they use the ever famous Dunn's smoked meat, which is simply exciting and tasty as heck. Well seasoned in Montreal steak spices, the meat is simply tender and juicy to the point of simple pleasure. The only reason why I'm not rating this any higher? Well, they use ciabatta bread and plain ol' mustard instead of hot, and the poutine with breaded fries, while better than most fast food places, simply isn't traditional and changes the whole meal. Add that you're surrounded by hundreds of people who're bulk shopping, the atmosphere also goes completely out the window. Still, definately worth picking up from time to time.

Don't go on the weekends if you can help it. The line-ups can take an hour + to get though. With that being said, who doesn't love Costco. Why by 2 pounds of flour, when you can buy 50? Or 1 chocolate bar, when you can buy a case?
The prices are reasonable, and actually quiet a good deal. I am just one person, so I don't typically buy my produce here, but I buy all my freezer items here.
This Costco is clean, well-lit and in a good location. Can get busy - but all the free samples make up for it. The customer service here is always stellar.
Word of warning though. If you use a credit card for groceries, Costco only accepts their American Express. They do not take VISA and MasterCard -

I tend to frequent the Costco on the Northside of the city, but on a whim I decided to head over to this mega-mammoth sized Costco.
As all Costco stores always do, this Costco left me happy, impressed and extremely eager to book my next visit.
This store has got all the Costco goodness as the other stores, but to add, it's located in a HUGE complex where you can ALSO find, yes, Ikea. So one stop, two mammoth stores, and a VERY happy wallet.
I must also tell you all that I bought the greatest hoodie I have EVER owned at this Costco for $19. It looks exactly like a hoodie from Aritzia, but it doesn't hurt my wallet :)
I can tell you HONESTLY that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Costcos. All Costcos in the city make me ridiculously happy. Not only do they have the GREATEST sales, the greatest products, the greatest prices, the greatest selection, the greatest samples and the greatest hoodies, but they have never, not in my entire life, disappointed me. Now how can you argue with THAT? -

I love costco. Other than having lot sof product at bargain, bulk prices, I suspect that the cashiers have been receiving customer service/sales trianing. Today, the cashier asked me if I would like an executive membership, where I get 2% cash back. They said if I do not receive a refund, I will receive my money back for the upgraded membership. Score! And great customer service to offer!
