A cosy corner store, Cornerstone gives great service. I sneaked in at five minutes before closing and the barista not only told me not to hurry, he encouraged me to grab a seat for a while whilst he cleared up, rather than rushing me out.  Not to mention my matcha latte was absolutely delicious, the perfect blend of bitter tea with creamy milk and foam. Definitely worth a stop if you're trekking up the hill to 4th.

    * Good espresso, with a bit of science fiction *

This corner cafe is one I have passed by many times and finally decided to try out.

Their double espresso had a nice crema and was very smooth.   Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

The customers were a bit of a trip to watch.   I  got images of something from a science fiction movie where everybody is being mind controlled by an electronic device they can't stop staring at.  Seriously.

The cafe was packed with almost every seat gone.  But it was silent except for clicking sounds as everyone was transfixed on their personal electronic gadget of choice.  There were tables of people who were clearly with each other but were not talking to each other.  (Unless perhaps they were texting each other instead of using vocal cords.)

I wanted to scream out loud and see if  people would look up from their electronic devices.  But I silently complied and checked my e-mail on my phone.

    Damn, I'm such a conformist.

I came in to hide from the rain, needing a latte and to warm up.  It was empty at first which made me a little suspicious, but it soon filled up (I have a thing about empty restaurants/cafes!).

Was hoping to get the smiley face latte art, but alas, no face. The latte was nice, lots of papers out to have a good read! But the door was kept open despite being blustery and wet outside, so I stayed very damp and cold the whole time there :/

A nice enough place if I lived in the area, but a bit outta my range to come to regularly.

Cornerstone looks like a regular coffee shop and seems to offer the usual fare as far as coffee shops go. What makes this place stand out is the excellent customer service. The baristas are friendly and fast and seem to actually enjoy their jobs. I will have to come back to taste-test their coffee (they serve Ethical Bean). I ordered a blended iced mocha and it was only okay - but I am more of a latte kind of girl.

There is a ton of space to sit and work or chat, and a few tables outside as well. Cute artwork on the walls.

I first visited this place to use a groupon that I had bought and even though it's a bit out of my way, I've been back several times. While the selection is standard coffee shop fare, I think my favourite thing about Cornerstone are the baristas! They've always been pleasant and very relaxed and down to earth. Will be back!

Once again, I am blinded by adorable latte art.

My soy matcha latte tasted incredible and the happy face they created out of the foam kept me smiling as I gulped http://www.yelp.ca/biz....

Cornerstone is especially bright with windows all around. Thumbs up for that. I'm a fan of as much natural light as possible during the day.

Though there aren't any cushy chairs and our table was wobbly, I'm still a fan. Enough to drive here from East Van? Well, no, but when I'm in the area again (Drexall!!) I may just come back.

How funny that this has been a *cornerstone* for many a meeting, an interview or to get quiet work done. There's a buzz about the place, with most people either working, reading papers, or socializing over java. What with Ethical Bean percolating, plentiful tables, a bright building and Wi-Fi it just makes sense.

There's plenty of cafe treats here as well, along with soups and sammies - however, I come for the coffee and stay for the surfing. Plus there's free parking and buses running along MacDonald - it's ideal for Kits.

This coffeehouse looks so cute on the outside, and the inside matches as well.

Perhaps it is called Cornerstone because:
    A) it's on the corner (4th and Stephens)
    B) they only serve items with corners
    C) it's a masonry shop
    D) it's an essential Vancouver place

Most likely, A is the correct answer.  But if I lived in Kits- I might say D.
Though I would really like if B was true- it's just not feasible.  When will they come out with square to-go coffee cups.  It's a great idea right?  You would drink from one of the corners.  One day....

Here are 5 facts about Cornerstone

    1) It's very spacious (wait- is this an opinion?  I think I could argue it).
    2) Free wi-fi- hooray!   (but not many outlets- boo!)
    3) Tempting food- that I have so far resisted (paninis, scones, the standard fare.)
    4) Cool and caffinated iced vanilla lattes that I have succumbed to.  But I enjoyed every sip.
    5) Great ambiance- nice music and interesting crowd.

Oh, and it's organic and fair-trade!  Extra points for that.

Their organic, fair-trade coffee is the best in Vancouver. There. I've said it. The best. They make a traditional cappuccino that will keep you awake for a week. They have free, fast wi-fi so I can check my emails and they always give my dog a treat. I just hope this review doesn't make it harder for me to get one of the comfy leather arm-chairs on a sunday morning in future.

Really the only way I can fault this place is that they use a font called Papyrus for their name on the windows. As a designer this is difficult to cope with. I've thought about this and I don't have the heart to drop a star. Coffee's too good.

Cornerstone is certainly a wedge of a coffee shop. The interior coffee bar juts out into the sitting space to create a narrow Tetris-shape of an area. I like it.

I took a seat with my tea and cookie in a comfy chair near the window. The Wi-Fi provided a fantastic and fast signal.

Although my cookie wasn't freshly baked, the chocolate chips were oven-hot gooey. I needed napkins. Plus everything is organic. Not a word I associate with insanely delicious and chewy cookies.

My only downside moment was the green tea I received in place of my peppermint. I'd have returned it for the right cuppa if it weren't then condemned to be poured down the drain.

Overall this is a good working-coffee spot. Lots of tables for meeting friends, neutral but funky music, and plenty of window space for watching all the trucking on fourth.
