When a friend suggested we eat lunch at Corner Tavern, I had no idea that lunch was be SO GOOD. Corner Tavern changed my predisposed notion that bars can't serve good food. I'm so sorry, bar gods I was wrong! *weeps*

Without even seeing the other yelp reviews, I thought the pasta salad was incredible. I hate to use hyperbole but it was ACTUALLY INCREDIBLE. The pasta salad was a Gemelli-type pasta with fresh pesto and sun-dried tomatoes over it. Every bite was perfectly al dente.

My Rosalita sandwich was delicious as well! The smoked gouda cheese was melted and accompanied the slices of turkey great. The sandwich was dressed in a chipotle ranch and a napa cabbage slaw. I usually hate cole slaw but I liked corner tavern's version of it.

Corner Tavern is so good, I consider moving to Boston just to hang out and be a bum here all the time. Extra bonus because I like the music they play.

When you wear seersucker to an indoor wedding, you're going to get one of two looks:
    1) The "Damn, that guy is out of touch. How inappropriate" look
    2) The "That guy is edgy and a little inappropriate, but he's pulling it off. I'm all up on that" look.

Sorry Nana, but this ball has chains. Point is, the only difference is swagger. Have the confidence to be who you are, and grandmas are gonna wanna Electric Slide next to you. So goes the law of the universe.

Corner Tavern, amidst the potential glitz and glamour of Boston's Back Bay, just says, "F*ck it. I'm a bar. Let's drink." It somehow dissuades d-baggery, escapes pretense and still pours a strong $6 well. I'm actually surprised there's a food menu, and if the kitchen demonstrates the same gumption as the beat-em-up bar, then you better believe I'm heading back for the highly touted meatloaf burger.

Go as you are, drink as you well, be merry - it's a given.

This place is A-OK in my book, but nothing really stands out.  It wasn't terribly crowded when we visited, but the service was still slow.

I head to a tavern for solid fare like fish and chips or more typical bar snacks like nachos.  Corner Tavern disappointed on both fronts.  They didn't even serve french fries... Odd.

The queso was pretty bland and I had to convince my fiance that the second half of his sandwich was worth taking home.

There's nothing awful about Corner Tavern, but I won't make an effort to go back.

I was in eggplant and goat cheese heaven the other night while feasting on the roasted vegetable sandwich, which came with a side of their must-try pasta salad. They also have a really good drink menu, although beer prices were unfortunately high. It's a small little place but we didn't have any problem getting a seat. We did have a little bit of a problem hearing each other... since it's so small and rectangular, it's super easy for the whole place to be filled with conversation. I kind of like it though... wouldn't be a tavern with peace and quiet. :)

I feel like I have been and am always searching for the perfect bar in Boston. You know....full but not too packed, some good music but not crazy loud where you have to be screaming to the person next to you, cozy but not too intimate where it's too much of a date place, and a great selection of liquor and draught beer for non-outrageous prices.

Welllllllll - I found it!! Came to Corner Tavern on a Friday night with a girl friend.  Walked down the steps to this underground - neighborhood bar and immediately felt at home.

Had some great conversations, met some cool people, and didn't wake up the next morning dreading to look at my bank account. Yes I will be back - and may just have to try their food too!

Awful wings-- GROSS is the only way to describe how the wings were prepared.  Narrow and dingy environment-- we tried to move to a table in the back, but even those were uncomfortable and slightly too high.

The beers are nothing to write home about either, the least they can do is offer a decent beer selection to wash out the taste of their subpar food.

I would walk down the block to Crossroads or over to Cornwalls-- skip this place.  If you feel like being in a half-basement, go to Cheers!

$3.50  PBR tallboys and a barfight.  NBD for a Friday night at the Corner Tavern. What's more, I witnessed this little conversation at the bar the other evening as the barfight was well underway:

Bartender: "hey, what's going on here?"
Guy watching another guy getting choked in a headlock: "Why it's a barfight of course"

    Of course. Naturally.

Thank you, strange bar patron watching another man's eyes get choked out of his head.

Broken glass, nosebleeds, ambivalent bystanders.  All in a day's work, boys. All in a day's work.

We had our office party at Corner Tavern and it was a great pick. They gave us the entire back of the bar so people could mingle. The service was extremely friendly.

The food was surprisingly good and they managed to provide options for the health-conscious, the glutards and the vegetarians such as chicken spring rolls with gluten-free dipping sauce, chicken skewers, a huge plate of marinated artichoke hearts, mushrooms, cheese and crackers, and for everyone else, pork sliders.

They could use more brown and amber ales or porters. The only thing I would ding them on is beer selection.

I was very impressed with how well they handled our party.

Me: not a bar person at all, recovering from an illness so not supposed to be drinking heavily, yet preferring mixed drinks to beer (I'll own it. I'm not afraid.)

My friend: a huge fan of this bar, heavyweight, realizing she should drag me out of the house for my own good

Corner Tavern: perfect laid-back, friendly atmosphere, no need to pull strange maneuvers to get the bartender's attention, refreshingly lacking the meat market feel.

The bartender: mixes well-balanced drinks, takes in stride both my friend specifying 'the cheapest vodka you have' and me being in a bar when I'm not supposed to be drinking, finds me a Twisted Tea so I'm not just nursing a water all night!

Oh meatloaf burger, we'll be best friends forever!

I stopped in here last night for dinner for the first time. My boyfriend and I eyed the menu out front. Everything looked pretty good, but it was Mr. Meatloaf Burger who coaxed us all the way inside.

I'm not the sports fan in the couple, but my boyfriend and I were both perfectly comfortable in this place for different reasons. Lots of TVs for him to watch, comfortable and clean atmosphere for me. It wasn't too loud, but it also wasn't dead quiet in there.

The beer is a little expensive, unless you get the special. The food is reasonably priced, and a little eclectic. Pulled pork, crab cakes, Reubens, grilled cheese and tomato soup (any place that understands this combo is already cool in my book).

But... meatloaf burger. You gotta try it.

Down a set of stairs and hidden away from the busy Mass Ave streets lies a Boston barroom gem.

I just only wish I had enough room to try both the talked-about Meatloaf Burger in addition to the killer Reuben sandwich that I completely devoured (I wasn't even all that hungry!).  The pastrami was absolutely delicious, and the quality swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand-islandish dressing sandwiched between two crispy slices of rye was just exactly what I want in a Reuben.

To top it off the prices were more than reasonable, the service was prompt and friendly, and they had a solid beer selection too.  Can't wait to go back.

There are very few taverns/pubs that can serve up good food. Corner Tavern has great food that is very reasonably priced. There are two specific sandwiches I will continue to come back for. The Meatloaf Burger is gorgeous. The perfectly balanced ingredients just put this burger over the top: tender meatloaf, smoky and tangy chipotle ketchup, sharp Vermont cheddar, and sweet applewood bacon. This burger will make-out with every taste bud in your mouth. Seriously. The Short rib and goat cheese sandwich is the other star. Sweet braised short ribs balanced by the punch of goat cheese, and rounded off with potato salad. You also get a side (which you won't have room for). The pasta salad side is huge and  has pesto and sun-dried tomatoes.

Service is standard for a tavern/pub. This is not a restaurant so I really don't care if anyone is tending to me, especially because it means I get to pay a little less for awesome food.

If you are close-by, the weekday $5 lunch menu (select items) before 3pm is the best deal, but be prepared to nap.

Thank you Corner Tavern for being in my neighborhood.

I'm not a bro. I'm not the fratty type. And, to be honest, for a place that looks and feels like a sports bar, most of the people here aren't bros or fratty types either. This all means that Corner Tavern is a chill place to hang without any pretensions. And, to be completely honest, I don't think it wants to be anything close to that.

It's quieter than your average sports bar. But quiet doesn't mean boring. It's fun. The game's always on the flat screen at the bar. People seem to enjoy the fact that they can have a conversation and he heard by the person across the table. And it's never too crowded which means you don't have to jockey for drinks or fight off some corn-fed beefhead hogging space at the bar.

My standby bar in the Back Bay.

This is another place that's around the corner from my g/f's place. It's a small quaint place, the only gripe is the beer selection. Not really huge and not really to my liking. The food was good, had the pulled pork sliders, had ordered the buffalo wings extra crispy but when they came out, we found out that they weren't fried...this was disappointing since we were both in the mood for wings. We opted instead to get the grilled cheese (this was the g/f's choice) which was good. Would I come here again, sure, but it's not a go-to place. Maybe more of a place for a relaxing night where I don't want to deal with the crowds of a larger establishment.

    Disappointed.

Syrupy cocktail, spotty service, limp grilled cheese, unrecognizable queso on the spruced-up "nachos," is that a flatbread pizza or something from my college dining hall?

(Word has it your kitchen used to be much better. )

The quintessential neighborhood bar! Food is far better than it should be for the low prices, beer selection is decent and changes often. The staff is friendly, good-looking and willing to put on whichever game you request, even if its the Buffalo Bills (unless the Pats are playing). A great spot for a tasty weeknight dinner, drinks on a Saturday night, or brunch on Sunday. It's the reason I can't move out of this neighborhood.

Desparate for wings, we seached the west Back Bay area.  Ordered from Corner Tavern based on rating.  Cleary, rating was not including the wings.  The absolute worst wings I have ever had.  Soggy, boiled, and wing sauce tasted like crp.  Live close by, but will never order wings from them again...

Pros: Good TVs!! Solid beer selection. Service. Location. Comfortable. Cheap. Good TVs!!
Cons: um...well I guess it's not closer to where I live...

People make me laugh sometimes. Reading some of the reviews here I have to wonder just what exactly people are thinking when they set their expectations for a sports bar. C'mon guys, it's a bar!! What are the requirements for a bar?? Let us review...

    1. Good TVs!! It is amazing at how many bars get this so damn wrong you have to slap yourself for stepping in them. Bars = SPORTS. The end. Moving on...
    2. Good beer selection that is not sponsored by Budweiser. Insert odd but diverse selection of microbrews as well.
    3. Reasonable quality of food. Reasonable does not = 4 star. It instead means solid value for happy hour. I will also accept "tastes amazing after four pints of beer."
    4. Good crowd. Obnoxious bar crowds are like pasta stains on your favorite shirt. They can absolutely ruin it and be very difficult to get rid of.

Well, Corner Tavern scores well on all these points. It's small enough to create a cool atmosphere with good sightlines to all the TVs from pretty much everywhere... but is big enough to bring groups of 4 comfortably. Prices are reasonable, beer selection is above-average, and the service has always, always been attentive and solid (I even admitted to not being a Red Sox Fan...seriously.) The menu has always come through for me whether it is pasta, sandwiches, or wings...but as always, your experience may vary. Most importantly, if all you want to do is drink a beer, actually WATCH the game, and want to be left the hell alone...this place will do just fine.

Drawbacks? Well, the beer selection is above-average but isn't earth shattering. Their drink specials can also be a bit draconian in their cut-off times. But there are no deal-breakers here.

I have no idea how this place has the rating that it does.

My girlfriend and I came here on a whim for lunch this past Saturday based on yelp recommendations.  We were out shopping and it's a bit of a hike from our home so we most definitely will not be coming back.  If we weren't so hungry we would have got up and left solely because of the crap service being provided by the angry bartender.   Like I said, we were both hungry and finding another place to eat and drink at the time seemed like more of a pain than just muddling through the bartenders bad day.  In hindsight, I wish we would of left after ordering our first round of drinks.

The food was OK.  Nothing special.  I had the meatloaf burger and she had a chicken wrap.  The meatloaf burger was different and came on a soft roll.  The fried red potatoes on the side were soggy.  I didn't taste her chicken wrap but she said it was about average and nothing to rave about.

I hate to beat a dead horse but the service was very much below par especially considering how few people were in the establishment.  We sat at the bar and the bartender seemed to be the only service person working.  We usually try to sit at the bar no matter where we go because we enjoy the faster service and attention that is generally provided at the bar.  I don't know why the bartender had his panties in a bunch but it definitely seemed like he was annoyed that we came in and wanted to give him our money.  Once again, it was not busy by any means.  The bartender never said hello, waited a good 5 minutes before offering to take a drink order, and seemed annoyed when we asked him for anything other than the lemons he was slicing.  I don't expect you to kiss my butt or pretend like I'm the only person in the place but at least say hello, offer me a drink and a menu and offer me a refill when we're sitting right in front of you and you can clearly see my glass is empty and has been for a good while.  Just to note, when an acquaintance of the bartender came in, the bartender was very chatty and attentive to that person.  I don't think the bartender said more than ten words to us and is at least 50% of the reason we will never come back.

Bottom line, we definitely will not be back, would not recommend this place to anyone and would recommend you find someplace else to spend your hard earned money.

Love, love Corner Tavern. My BF lives around the corner (so the name definitely applies) so we come here frequently. I have been a few times on a weekend night, gets crowded but not obnoxiously so, still easy to get a drink and you don't get pushed around. Music is eh, but no fault of theirs since there is a jukebox (pretty sure about that).

Personally, I really like going in during the week for a couple of drinks and a cheap dinner. The menu is not huge, but there is definitely somethign for everyone and they update it on a fairly regular basis. Oh, and the food is good! Simple, like sandwiches, salads, flatbreads etc, but really good.

Definitely recommend this place as one of my favorite, chill, neighborhood bar spots in Boston!

Ya.. it's a 5 star. I love the feel, the walk down in the basement type of dive.. a bar on the left where it's easy to catch the eye of the people behind that bar and tables in the back. The wings were perfection, the red wine was fine (wine was fine...hmm). The crowd was a mix of women and then couples and then guys wanting to catch a game on tv. The vibe was great and I can't wait to come back with friends.

The Corner Tavern is a long narrow basement bar located at the  BU/Charles River quadrant of the intersection of Mass Ave and Marlborough St, minutes away from the Hynes T stop.

The single bartender covering the lunch crowd handled the parties scattered among the tables (five tall narrow tables which each sat 4, a table for 2, and a row of stools before a counter) in addition to the long row of seats at his bar.  A soccer game on the flat screen tv entertained us as we waited for our food to arrive.

The soup of the day arrived in the form of a neat triangular bowl of lobster bisque for $3 a cup.  The soup was hot and creamy and tasty, with only little tidbits of the crustacean floating here and there (but that was mentioned to me ahead of time).  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

With the addition of an order of soda for $2, we were able to enjoy the Meatloaf "Burger" for $5 at lunchtime instead of the regular $9 (lunch time special price with the purchase of a beverage), while we selected the full priced Shortrib & Goat Cheese $10 as the other sandwich.  Each sandwich on their menu comes with a choice of side - we picked the pasta salad and the roasted potatoes.  The burger was the clear winner with its flavorful and moist meatloaf tucked within the soft bun.  The shortrib itself was tender enough but lacking in flavor and moistness despite the addition of the goat cheese, herbed potato salad, and roasted red peppers between the tougher ciabatta type bread.  The twisted pasta was a tad overcooked, but otherwise tasty in the pesto sauce.  The roasted potatoes were a bit dry and didn't seemed particularly seasoned, but otherwise were okay.

Two individual single bathrooms are tucked into a small hall by the bar.

All chairs in here seem to be the stool sort, so if you aren't up for sitting perched up high during your meal, you might want to keep that in mind.

If you aren't up for something alcoholic so early in the day, you could potentionally get out with lunch for $7 plus tax and tip ($2 for a soda and $5 for one of the sandwiches on the short lunch list).

I guess this place is more known for its food rather than drinks b/c the selection was nothing outta the ordinary and service had a rough start - it was a little annoying sitting down at a table and then being asked to move to the bar if we weren't planning to order food...which we did...

The white bean dip with country white bread we shared was pretty good, not nearly as good as some others have noted though.  I also couldn't help but chuckle when the server provided me with my beer and no glass until I requested it.

I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere even on a Friday night, but nothing really stood out and I'm up against the wall as to whether to come back or not to try more of the food.  We'll see...

I found this bar by searching brunch and bloody mary. We walked in right after it opened on a Saturday morning. There were a few people at the bar, but other than that the place was empty. Perfect.

Menu was small but the food was good (albeit in smallish portions) and priced right for what you got. Good beer selection. Good bloody marys. Friendly service. Unassuming bar and atmosphere.

I've probably passed by this place 1,000 times in the last 5 years but had never been too intrigued. When I was searching for a brunch place Saturday morning I was surprised Corner Tavern kept popping up. After a few minutes of perusing the reviews and glancing at the menu I was convinced.

The bar was small, sunny, and literally a hole-in-the-wall. We sat down at a high top table which made me a little nervous -- I like to have my feet on the ground when I'm trying new food. I was slightly upset that we only received the brunch menu instead of their full lunch menu but saw that one of the sandwiches I had been eying was on there anyway. Thanks for making my decision easier!

My friend and I both went with the turkey and brie panini on cranberry pecan bread with a side of pasta salad. I'm actually surprised that I ordered that sandwich seeing as I really don't like turkey, brie or cranberries. I guess I was feeling a little adventurous? And I sure am happy I was because this sandwich. was. awesome. The pasta salad on the side was also really great. For $8 it was the perfect amount of food and left me feeling full, but not like I wasn't gonna make the 15 minute walk home. My other friend ordered a waffle which looked pretty good. I don't like waffles so I wasn't really impressed but she loved it. Not gonna say I didn't mind stealing a few candied pecans off her plate though. Those babies are like crack.

I had the Braised Short Rib and Goat cheese sandwich, which was excellent in flavor but not for those watching their figures. All sandwiches come with a choice of roasted potatoes, side salad or chips. Other tasty choices are the Reuben sandwich and Meatloaf burger. The Crab cake sandwich is a little salty and sounded better on the menu than on the tongue.

I really like this bar. It's small and low-key, usually busy but rarely crowded, and has a real neighborhood feel lacking in many Back Bay bars.

As other reviewers have commented, the draft beer selection is limited to just five choices. They always have Guinness, Harpoon IPA, and Allagash White; the other two taps seem to rotate. There is also a pretty good selection of bottled beers, plus wine and a full selection of liquor. In fact, while I usually opt for beer at Corner Tavern, it seems they have a really varied selection of liquors (6+ types of vodka, several varieties of tequila . . .).

One of the most unusual things about Corner Tavern is that the food is actually really good! Everything seems fresh and house-made, and there is obvious and liberal use of fresh herbs and spices. I've especially enjoyed the tomato basil soup, the meatloaf burger, and the out of control grilled cheese. My husband likes the wings, although he cautions that they are NOT buffalo wings. The only food I've had here that has disappointed is the banh mi that's on the lunch menu. I found that salty and a little strange (Not so strange that I couldn't eat it, but still a step down from the rest of the food here). Sandwiches cost between $8-10 and include a side (I recommend the potatoes). If you come for lunch on a weekday, many of the sandwiches are on the $5 lunch menu, which is a fabulous deal.

I've come here to watch sports several times and for me, this is a good place to do it. They have probably 8 screens but none of them are huge, so while they do show all the major games, it doesn't feel like a sports bar per se. It's easy for people who aren't interested in the games to feel comfortable, too. If they're showing multiple games, it can be a challenge to find a seat near a tv that's showing your game, but most of the people here are pretty laid back and friendly and will try to help you out.

Finally, I like the crowd here--a good mix of regulars, neighborhood folks, and the occasional student. Despite its proximity to MIT, Corner Tavern is not a student bar. Most of the clientele seems to be mid-20s or older, and more interested in chilling out than anything else. It's always a relaxing and laid back time at the Corner Tavern.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Boston. I'm not even sure how I found it - probably on Yelp - but I first ended up here to watch a Pats game.

The food is great and the price is fair for each item. I'm a vegetarian so to be able to find quality veggie offerings at a small bar is rare. The food has a high-end feel, but is your standard American fare.

It's small so there aren't a lot of places to sit and the staff doesn't mind seating people who are only getting drinks which is kind of a pain if you're there for dinner. Also I'd recommend not ordering the flat breads as your main meal as they're quite small.

Beyond that however, I really enjoy the place: nice atmosphere, good service, TVs, good drinks, good food, etc.

These stars are all for the beer - amazing selection on tap. Also, b/c I get a kick sitting near the ledge on the second floor, watching all the hipsters (your wait staff will be one of them, for sure) and counting the amount of clashing neon caps and skinny jeans.

But if you're just there for a beer, still a wise choice. I wouldn't go hungry - the food is way, way overpriced. We've only had random appetizers, and they didn't even have fries. A bar without fries? Really, hipsters? No, I don't want hummus - that's not even fried. The house Chex Mix was an amusing idea, but only ok in execution, and nothing special. But I may not be trendy enough to really get the irony of eating chex mix in a bar.

It's good for groups, small and large, and good for dates. Usually we can get a table as soon as we walk in. I would consider it a good place to stop by for a drink or two, but I wouldn't be a bar fly and I'll only go if I'm in the area.

Hands down, my boyfriend and my FAVORITE bar in Boston!

Besides being an awesome neighborhood bar, the food is also amazing!  The pork quesadilla and white bean dip are appetizer favorites.  The boy loves everything. Standouts for him are the meatloaf burger and reuben sandwiches, and I love the roasted vegetable sandwich!  They all come with a side of either pasta salad, roasted potatoes, mixed greens, or chips.

Great place to go chill, work, catch the games, relax, or drink up!  In fact, I am sitting here at the bar working right now..

Homey, cozy, friendly, what more can you ask for?

Delicious food, especially for the price. We did the mini grilled cheese with tomato soup, the ribs, and the meatloaf burger.

The soup was outstanding, the ribs were great with an Asian sauce reminiscent of something I ate at Myers + Chang, and the meatloaf burg was sweeter than expected but still awesome with loads of crispy bacon on top.

My date was unenthused about the beer selection, but that didn't bug me at all.

Half price apps during the week from 5 to 7; I'll be here every Friday after work from now on, not even kidding.

This is MY BAR.  I love coming here.  Sure, there are only maybe four or five beers on tap, and maybe the menus is only one page, but the stuff they have is just awesome.

Actually, that's a great metaphor for the bar itself: not a lot of fancy stuff, but what it has is awesome.  A few TVs on sports channels (with the sound turned off) and some music in the background (but not so loud that I can't talk with friends) make this a pretty chill place to hang out.

Even when it gets crowded, the bartenders and servers keep everything under control and moving along.

The bar tends to get crowded whenever one of Boston's sports teams are playing, but never so crowded that I decide to pass on a beer here.
