Now under new management and has changed their name to Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen!
The new decor is really nice and creates a relaxing ambiance. The food is very tasty and really good value. Lots of choices for both vegetarians and meat eaters.
Well worth checking out and a great addition to the neighbourhood.

Since the new ownership we've ordered from here twice. The first time, we thought it was a fluke that it was so bad (I even called to complain) and the second time we learned of the new ownership and have stopped ordering from here entirely (Tandoori Palace is great instead!).

Both times we ordered from here since the new owners the food was mediocre to bad (both times it was mostly liquid), came very late, was more expensive than before, and arrived in smashed containers so the bag was filled with liquid and the food left in the half-filled containers had bits of plastic from the lids throughout them.

These 2 and 3 star reviews are outdated. Corner Tandoori has come under new ownership as of Nov. 2011. I would definitely recommend this place as a first date or great date venue!!

This place is amazing! It is delicious, perfectly spiced, and lower in fat than traditional indian fare due to their Tandoori cooking style. The food is much more reasonably priced than most Indian restaurants I've been to in Vancouver.

We ordered the Papadoms, Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Curry and Saag Paneer. When the papadoms came we were suprised at how low fat they were. The lack of grease is due to the fact that they are baked, not fried. It came with a delicious (and spicy!) cilantro dipping sauce.

The dishes we ordered came quickly and hot. They did not have the lake of red liquid fat that so commonly accompanies indian food. The lamb was melt in your mouth and the saag paneer (spinach and cheese dish) was spot on comfort food. The chicken curry was spiced to perfect hotness as we had requested the lower end of Hot. In total our bill came to $36. Each curry dish (around $10) comes with your choice of naan bread or basmati rice. That's right, included. So for us, it was either two rice and one naan, or two naan one rice. We asked for one garlic and cilantro naan which was $1 extra. The basmati rice was delicious and fragrant.
My only complaint was that the chicken was a little bit salty but when the owner asked how our meal was I mentioned it and he said, "Okay, I will speak to the chef. Thank you for your feedback."
The new ownership seem excited and enthusiastic about the new space. They have kept the same chef but raised the standards of service and decor. A new sign will soon replace the orange banner of the previous establishment. The waitress was very kind and attentive.

The interior of the restaurant has been completely remodeled as well. There are chic black tables and a mixture of black wooden chairs and black velvet chairs. Each table had a bouquet of roses, and at the end we were presented with two Ferrero Rocher's with our bill.

We had a wonderful date and will be back soon for our next Indian craving!

I didn't know this place existed until a few days ago.  The prices are so cheap, Mutter Paneer with Naan or Rice $6.99.  The paneer was cut into larger pieces then I normally see.  The sauce was great.  The Aloo Gobi was also good, not to leave out the Chicken Palak.  I found all 3 dishes to have less oil then most other Indian restaurants.  They also make their own hot sauce mix.  If you want to heat up your meal, get a side of this homemade sauce. The Rasamalai was yummy too. This place really surprised me.  Keep up the good work.

    Hmm..

I read the reviews before coming so I was prepared for the worst. I guess this helped a lot because I actually found the service to be pretty normal. We weren't ignored at all and we were seated right away. The waitress wasn't overly friendly, but she wasn't unpleasant either. It was just perfectly average.

We ordered the Saag Paneer with medium spice and the Matter Paneer really hot. Neither were really spicy at all. The Matter Paneer had some spice, but I wouldn't even go as far as calling it medium... that shit was mild!

That being said, they were both still okay, but they definitely need some more flavour, and someone needs to inform the people working in the kitchen what spicy means... because.. yikes.

I highly doubt I'll ever come back. There are so many incredible places to get Indian Food in Vancouver (and on the Drive, even) that coming back to Corner Tandoori seems like a waste of time.

Most of why i remembered to review this place was because i wanted to check the business info to see if they actually have waiter service or not. Seriously, it was so bad that i couldn't tell if there was supposed to be table service or it was Bon's Off Broadway style where you fend for yourself when possible.

When we entered a lady behind the counter at the back gestured into the restaurant and said 'sit wherever you like.' After grabbing a menu for ourselves from another table and deciding what to order, we sat there for so long with no service that we began to wonder if we weren't supposed to go to the back counter to order. When my bf stood up to do so, the same lady said 'i'll be right there' and casually strolled over like we hadn't been sitting there for fifteen minutes salivating at other people's food.

The food arrived quickly, but... no plates. We assumed the lady just couldn't carry our food and plates and would be back again shortly, but after 3 minutes of staring at our food and awkwardly trying to make eye contact with one of the staff, we went to the counter and requested some. It was especially weird because they weren't that busy and none of the staff were scurrying around with that harried, dinner time rush look of panic... When it came time to pay the bill, we just went to the counter instead of playing the waiting game again.

The food itself was so-so. It wasn't BAD, but we asked for medium spice and there was not a hint of it. At all. Not even a little tingling on my tongue. I can only assume that they just gave us mild by mistake or that mild is actually even more bland and comparatively makes Shreddies taste like an explosion of flavor. Part of why we got Indian food was that we wanted leftovers, but the dishes were tiny and we ended up finishing it all! Compared to other Indian restaurants i've been to, the plates seemed a little lacking... And only 6 (yes, we counted) tiny pieces of cheese in our Palak. Come between me and cheese? Now you're just being mean.

Oh my gosh, WORST. The food is awful! It's not even expensive and I always regret spending money on it. Once I couldn't even finish my chana masala here, and I was REALLY hungry. It was just that bad. Also, the atmosphere is awful. Super rough. Just not worth visiting.

Maybe I've just visited on three REALLY bad days, but after three visits if I still wish I hadn't gone at all, I think that means it's awful.

I came here on the advice of a friend, but now that I've eaten there I think he was more recommending it because it was close to his house and cheap, not because it would be remotely enjoyable for me

As the review below me commented on, the service is awful. I mean really, really awful. I had the same experience where I had no idea if there was waiter service or not. I eventually asked and was told they did, and to return to my seat. About ten minutes later she returned with water (which wasn't refilled until I was preparing to leave). When she finally came to take my order it was so difficult to communicate with her, at first I thought it was because of a language barrier, but it turns out she was just weird.

The food arrived and wasn't awful or anything, but I'd say it was the worst Indian I've had. That /sounds/ like a huge insult but it's really not, I've loved almost all Indian that I've ever had - and I eat it a lot.

If you're in the area and you want to save a few bucks, I don't think you'll be grossed out or anything, but if your time is money, move along.

This is simply an awesome place for Indian takeout/delivery.  Never dined in so no clue what the interior is like!  Doesn't sound like I'm missing much there though.

The Aloo Gobi is amazing.  I recommend saving some for the next day because it somehow gets twice as good sitting in the fridge overnight.  The mango lassi is also a standout.  I always drink the whole damn thing before I've had three bites of food.  Time to start getting two?  I digress.  The butter chicken is always just ok - nice chicken but really could use some oomph.  Lacking flavour for sure.  I've ordered it a few times always hoping it's a bit better.  Oh and the vegetable pakoras!  Delicious!  The tamarind sauce they come with is to die for.  So good.  Great naan bread also.

The delivery times really do vary, usually tending to be on the longer side.  Forty minutes to an hour.  Worth the wait and not a big deal if you know what to expect!

We ordered take out from here on the night of the Parade of Lost Souls. It was a process filled with waiting, although we didn't have huge expectations -- I mean, 20,000 people were descending upon the Drive.

The chilli chicken here is the best I've had in Vancouver -- large vegetables and a warming, potent spice. I could have eaten three helpings in one sitting. Sometimes sharing is no fun.

We also ordered a helping of prawn curry and a lamb dish. Four of us shared the three dishes, which all came with naan and rice. We could barely make it through the whole lot! The order came to $40 with tip, and delivery was free!

They also offer a 10% discount on lunch between 12pm and 4pm. Overall, for great food and amazing value I'm a five-star fan of Corner Tandoori. And next time I go (when it won't be the Drive's annual busiest night), I'm sure Corner Tandoori will be top-notch on the delivery time too.

I've walked by this place many times and have wanted to try it. Finally I decided to venture in.... I should have kept walking.
The decor is horrible. It felt like I was at someones messy house for dinner. I ordered the Butter Chicken... which tasted just like that. Melted Butter with bits of chicken. No Flavor... besides butter.
The Naan bread was ok... but thats not enough for me to return.

I've been to this place for takeout about 6 times now. Almost always the same thing - Chicken Vindaloo with rice and a side order of Naan. Delicious because of the sauce but, as other reviewers have pointed out, seriously lacking in the amount of meat. I just can't resist dipping the really good naan bread into the delicious gingery curry sauce! Samosas are good here too. My family likes the Curry Chicken and Naan too. We weren't too impressed with the Lamb Curry though. The meat seemed dry, if that's possible whilst being simmered in the curry sauce.

I always get takeout though. If my family knew what this place looked like, they'd never try their food!

I shouldn't say it too loud, as I love the fact that I don't need to wait for ages when I crave Inidan food; but this place is the best indian food I've found in town so far ! And I am on the picky side...
They make everything fresh daily, including their naan... awesome! And they have super friendly staff.
The only problem that I have with the place is the dining room.... it's really not that nice.
So it's perfect for take-out. not so great for having diner with friends.
But in the end, take-out indian in front of a movie... can't beat that !! :-)

Depends Depends Depends (and I don't mean the underwear!!!). Most times the food is fast, fresh and delicious. I always get take out because the atmosphere in there is pretty cold, tacky and ridiculous. I highly recommend the Aloo Gobi and the Mutter Panner. The Naan is plentiful and you always have extra leftover so don't order too many (most main dishes come with it already). The Pakora is also yummy.

Off Day: Yesterday I was really craving Indian food but should have went elsewhere. There were two tables of people when we went in to order. There was one guy working and obviously panicked. I'm not sure if there was much help in the kitchen either. I think I saw 2 other people back there. It took him quite some time to pay us attention to take our order but it finally happened. When I paid, a whole minute passed before he could find the change in the till. I just told him to keep it.

We left to get movies and came back 20 min later and were told to sit. At this point the other two tables are just getting their food. We waited.. and waited.. after another 20-25 min we finally got our food and once we were home (2 blocks away) we settled into some luke warm Aloo Gobi and was chinced out on the cheese in the Paneer... Big time.

It made me sad... They need some help.

Well, boo-hoo. Someone has changed the recipes?? We hadn't been there in a while and I was craving some good, low budget Indian food again. I was a bit disappointed in my usual fare :-(
It seems the owner has expanded his business portfolio to the next door convenience store. Perhaps his absence from the kitchen has led to the absence of flavour in the dishes.

Personally, I think he should put a bit of money into this shop that he already owns, as it could really use some improvement in it's decor and layout.
There is a very 'special' ceramic dolphin and glass table on TOP of the  counter, and an assortment of poorly placed drink fridges that give the place an almost convenience store look. The plastic fruit strewn over hung lattice as a ceiling decoration is nothing short of tacky but not quite 'cute' tacky, because the place lacks an overall cohesive theme.

    check in. August 8th 2010:
We brought a couple of friends in, warning them in advance to keep their expectations low on the decor but still hoped for the food to be as good as it was in our early visits, but alas the dishes were just 'okay' and the decor is just as bad (and maybe even worse, due to the storage of beverage boxes piled in front of the counter.) Unfortunately, time has not improved the lack of charm of this place, although I had wished it so.

The prices are still very reasonable, and owner is a nice man. I wish him the best but it's unlikely that we will be rushing back anytime soon because the food is just "meh" now.

I've only been back here sporadically over the past year. However, each time, the food has been different. I don't know what. I seem to have to add chilli sauce to it each time to spice it up. It lacked the taste that it once had.

Maybe what the other Yelpers are talking about expanding into the convenience store business is affecting the quality of the food(?). That doesn't seem right, but maybe there's some new cooks in the kitchen.

I'll try again next time - but I'll be sure to ask why it's changed.

I've docked them two stars because it's all about the food!

I've lost that loving feeling. :^/

I have eaten here a few times. The people who work there are generally pretty friendly and helpful. The food is good and reasonably priced. The butter chicken is a lunch time special, and it is only $6.99. So the value is great.

The only downside is that the decor is pretty appalling. The place could be great if only they gave it a nice paint job and removed some of the clutter.

Overall, if you want a low key, cheap, yet good Indian meal, served by nice staff then try this place.

We had take-out for 6 people the other night and everyone loved it. I read some reviews regarding long delivery times so we did pick up and it was ready in 20mins (on a Friday night). I had never seen the interior before and yeah it's pretty plain but the food - wow. Easily the best Indian take-out I've had in Vancouver, and very reasonably priced. I'm not even going to mention particular dishes, they were all good. Ok I will mention the lamb and spinach dish because it didn't look that appetizing - but it tasted amazing. Looking forward to becoming a regular.

I wish that I had written a review for the first time I went to Corner Tandori. If I had, I would have started off by saying how glad I was to finally have a local Indian restaurant that was both affordable and really good. I would have mentioned the decor. Aside from the ceiling covered in plastic flowers, there really isn't *any* decor. But that didn't matter. The owner was super friendly and the food was really tasty. The butter chicken was far better than Tandori Palace a few blocks down the road. The veggie thali made by request was really good--lots of favour....The papadam was overly oily, but the naan was perfecto....In general, everything was pretty darn good considering....

The only thing that has changed is the quality of the food and the owner appears to be less happy. The flowers still adorn the ceiling--which kind of reminds me of the Secret Garden for some reason...

The other night, my b/f and I went back to Corner Tandori after a previously dissapointing butter chicken venture...It didn't taste the same--lacked the complex flavours of yester-days....Still it was better than the campbell soup butter chicken down the road...This time we'll try something different....So we ordered the meat thali...Lamb, chicken, rice or naan, salad, and veggies with chutney and raiti (sp?).  The chicken was a piece of over cooked chicken--dried out on top of some plain basmati rice. The lamb was cold. The sauce was probably pretty good--but...it was cold. The salad was some sliced carrots and lettuce. Oh...And it took *forever* to be served...Which was why it was cold surmised, Matt...

Anyway--that's all. It is really quite sad. I used to like that place a lot. And now there are no good Indian places nearby. Take Out it will have to be!

"I walked in hungry then left stuffed, but unfulfilled."

I wanted to love this place. Compared to the nearby Tandoori Palace, this place was big, bright and clean. Service is warm and friendly. For Vancouver standards, price is relatively cheap. You can walk out under $10 per person and possibly still have left-over.

The problem is the taste - which was lacking. The basic Naan wasn't special. I'd be surprised if it was freshly baked in-house because there was no home-style quality to it. While the butter chicken and saag paneer really lacked in the spice department. I wasn't looking for something spicy for they have hot sauce each table. I can't taste any herbs, curry, onions, ginger or garlic. I think the dish is watered-down to cater to a milder palate.

Despite the excellent service and better atmosphere, I'm going to have to suggest looking toward Tandoori Palace when in the area for some take-out delight.

the food here was good, amazing Naan and Mango Lassi.  The decor is really crazy awful and really non existent at the same time!  The service is great really friendly and helpful.  Normally you order a dish and it comes with rice OR naan.  There were 5 of us and we wanted to share so they brought out a big plate of rice and enough Naan for everyone plus all our dishes.
I would go again but maybe order spicier than the medium spice we ordered.

I have been to this place five times. Five times because the butter chicken is fair to midland and it is convenient for me geographically. The service is efficient and nothing more. Not unfriendly, but a far cry from friendly as well. I have been sitting in the place and having my food there but I think it is takeout from now on if I decide to keep ordering food from this place. Meh.
