Returning to Gagetown to finish some pre-deployment training, my wife joined me for a weekend away. We met some friends at Corked after dinner for drinks and conversation.

The layout's very nicely done, comfortable and tasteful. A good selection of wines and a small but decent selection of spirits is offered as well. I particularly enjoyed the Picaroon's Winter Warmer on offer, and my wife was impressed with the flights, which gave her the opportunity to try a lot of wines for a very reasonable price.

When we arrived, our friends were savouring a cheese tray served with a generous amount of French bread (which was "topped up" when needed) - I couldn't believe that it wasn't a lot more expensive. The chevre, brie, and havarti complemented the wine nicely. A bowl of pretzels was also out for palate cleansing.

Overall, a nice evening with great hosts. I don't come to Fredericton especially often, but I think I'd happily return!

I was pretty excited when I heard that not one but two wine bars had opened in Fredericton since I'd last been home for a visit. I've always thought that Fredericton could use a nice wine bar, and now I'm happy it finally has one I can heartily recommend.

The interior is very well done - nicely decorated, chic, and just dark and intimate enough to be appropriate to a wine bar. It encourages lingering - in fact, the rest of our group left, and my boyfriend and I stayed behind to savour our glass of Barolo, very comfortably. When I was there on a Saturday night after dinner, the place filled up slowly but surely.

I was quite pleased with their by the glass wine list - they have a diverse and interesting selection. I really enjoyed a Pinot Noir from Oregon and the delicious aforementioned Barolo. All of the wines seem to be offered by the glass or by the bottle. That means that they don't have a huge list by the bottle, but I prefer to order by the glass and try different things in a wine bar anyway. They also have a small selection of beers and mixed drinks for the non-wine lovers in the crowd. There was one of those in my group, and he was happy to be able to order a beer. The only thing I would ask from their wine selection is maybe an extra French red or two, and a dessert wine or two. The owner told us that she hopes to add a dessert wine soon when we asked for one.

They don't have a food menu yet, but the owner also told me that they're planning to start offering tapas next month. The pretzels placed on a table in a silver bowl were a nice touch in the meantime.  Once this place gets off its feet, it would be great if they could offer the option of smaller glass sizes (sometimes it's nice to be able to sample a 2oz pour) and/or a wine flight or two.

I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Fredericton! If things go as planned, I have a feeling my four stars might edge toward five.
