Another tough one to rate, 3 for the food. I wouldn't come here just for the food, but a much more of a high class feeling in taking a client, maybe even a date, as it's quite the elegant decor, one to expect inside a boutique hotel like Hotel Le Soleil.
the menu is definitely made with a western flair, thus the fusion. Even has a Thai salad. The tandoori chicken was good, tender, not too dry but enough flavour.
Again, more of a DT day thing to do. And one won't come here for value, it's a bit steeper than an authentic Indian place one would find on Main St. or in Surrey. -

Hmm... Indian fusion. First timer and I like it! Whodathunk?!
I got the Crab Cakes ($20) for lunch. It came with rice and salad with mango vinaigrette (this dressing is unique and delish!). The star of the show was, of course, the crab cakes (2 pcs). It was moist and had lots of crab flavour. Excellent combined with the mango & herb toppings. It was like comfort food, but with a twist. Portions were good. I was full, but not stuffed to the point where the afternoon became a snooze write-off.
Decor was warm, welcoming, and somewhat Old World quaint.
So why only 3 stars, you ask? While the food was decent, I'm not sure if it's worth the whopping price tag, especially for lunch! For the more generic menu items, such as butter chicken and the various curries, I feel like you're paying such high prices for something you can easily replicate (to some degree) at the food court. But I repeat, I thoroughly enjoyed the food; I'm just very price/value sensitive. -

We went there for dinner on friday night. The room is nice, and service was decent.
I loved their seafood vol au vent! It was delicious! I would go back for it definitely! Creme brulee was also decent.
I have nothing much to say about it, but that I enjoyed our cozy corner and delicious food.
Would recommend the place.
Hotel also looks very nice and cozy, I've never been inside it before. -

The restaurant at La Soleil Hotel is the Copper Chimney. Like the hotel to which is belongs, the restaurant is exquisitely decorated. The joint is two stories, with a grand ballroom staircase and an art deco feel.
Ever the fan of Indian cuisine, I appreciated the menu. My lamb was overdone, but I take my food rarer than most. Wine complimented it well, I had a by the glass shiraz and it naturally went well with the meat.
Yes, the preceding was nothing shy of great.
The service was nothing near decent.
I was informed that the woman serving our table was the wife of the owner. I would assume that someone whose livelihood is deeply rooted in the restaurant's success would make strides to offer fine service.
Evidently it's the inverse, such job security fosters laziness and indifference. She was curt, slow and spent the evening with a scowl plastered upon her face. A face that contorted just kills my appetite. -

I had a lunchtime meeting downtown and was taken to this restaurant. Very unprepossessing exterior tucked away on Hornby St and didn't look like a typical Indian restaurant, but the instant you walk inside you smell the spices. I've probably walked past it many times without noticing it. Nice atmosphere with plenty of copper metal around. There is an upstairs gallery section, but we were seated downstairs. Good selection of traditional Indian and Indian fusion dishes. Naan bread and a tasty dip was provided to nibble on. I had the Chicken with Fenugreek, which came with rice, naan and some steamed vegetables. Decent espresso coffee was a pleasant surprise. A little bit pricey, but I wasn't paying...

For Indian cuisine downtown, this is the place to take a date or for a family dinner. If you like good food, go here hands down. I had the steak my first time there and went back for the rack of lamb my friend ordered the first time out. I got great service all around and will be back soon... The tiramisu and mango coconut cheesecakes are to die for btw!
