Review from Arc P.
Coppeneur is located on Stephen Ave just west of centre street between the Saltlick and Blue Kitchen Dinner. It's small and quaint, but harvests a warm, inviting atmosphere ... of course being surrounded by chocolate might have something to do with it.
There is a lot of variety inside, but I went straight for the organic dark chocolate circles for $12.95. I like the labels that accompany the chocolates. They tell exactly the percent of Cacao, which plantation the beans are from, and the type of bean. It was great to know that much detail about the product. Comforts me in the notion that it is quite organic.
It isn't cheap though, but with Stephen Ave rent prices I'm not surprised. Great gift place if you need something quick downtown! -
Review from Angelo T.
First thursday at the cultural district has a great secret. A free chocolate tasting at Coppeneur, a charming little shop containing the most unique types of chocolate. I strolled in here waiting for a *shy face* ohnotmuch and met one of the store proprietor's Bruce. A really charming fellow who was a bit shy but had a plethora of knowledge when it came to chocolate. Ask him about the difference between Coppeneur unique producer-farmer relationship vs. the "big bar" companies and he'll give you an entertaining discussion.
They also had a great guide handy for proper chocolate tasting. I didn't get a chance to pick some bars up but there were some interesting flavours and blends (like peppercorn w/ dark chocolate) that I wanted to try on a day where a smooth and rich chocolate bar and Romeo n Jullietta was all a man needed.
From what I could see, the prices were along the same lines that you would spend at Bernard Callebaut and Purdy's. I really believe Coppeneur is the better shop to visit especially if you're looking for that unique bar of chocolate to pair with your wine, beer, cheese, scotch, cognac, and cigar.Listed in: BECAUSE I SAID SO!!
