We have loved this place since we moved to the neighborhood, 7+ years ago.
Consistently good coffees (even though they have changed coffee brands numerous times, and we did most love when they used illy coffee) Great service. And their breakfast sandwiches are amazing!

The owner of this cafe is really laid back here.  Translation: Slow service. Not a good idea to come if you are in a rush.

I tried their vanilla matcha which was very good.  Tuna melt was not bad and really filling for a light lunch.

I wanted to go in again few days ago but I changed my mind after seeing how many people were waiting.

I love how the patio is covered and transparent.  Great for rainy Vancouver!

Loved this little independent coffee shop.

The owner told me they're known for their Americanos, but I opted for a chai latte; they make their own chai here. It wasn't sweet like the chai lattes at Starbucks... it definitely had more spice in it, which was a nice change from what I was used to.

Coo Coo has a fairly large covered patio that's perfect for people watching and lazing around on a weekend. Oh, and the free wifi, electrical outlets, and magazines were awesome! It was a perfect break from a Saturday full of sightseeing.

I'm not sure why it's so highly rated, maybe it's because it's not a chain.  I thought is was just OK and not necessarily better than a chain coffee house.

It's a small little cafe with a cute outdoor patio (covered during the rainy/winter months).  Inside it narrow and tight, small tables.

I had an americano and it was ok, a little bitter/burnt tasting, but not horrible.  The breakfast sandwich was a disappointment though.  A yellow egg-like filling, lightly reheated and cold in the middle.  Yuck.

Every so often Peter S comes home with a Coo Coo Coffee for me. I'm always thankful -- one for the thoughtfulness and two for the fact that he "fixes" my coffee for me.

Recently I got a chance to order up my own cuppa americano from the barista, on a rainy Saturday morning. Coffee in hand, I proceeded to test it's perk. Having had the pleasure of drinking many brews from this city's finest roasters, I have to say, it didn't hold a candle to the pros. The adjective to describe its taste, before it's "fixed"? Bitter.

With some sugar and cream, it turned out just fine, and while I'm sure I'll find myself having another Coo Coo coffee, I think it will have more to do with convenience factor than it will to do with knowing I'll be the receiver of a well blended, aromatic brew. But three cheers for friendly smiles and quick service.

I'm totally coo coo for Coo Coo Coffee! I came here today for a work date (so romantic, I know) and Ty & I shared a table... now the tables are small (really small) but after finishing our fantastic mochas (absolutely perfect...I uploaded a pic of mine too... the art here is always amazing) we whipped out our laptops and got to work. Yes!

At one point I dropped something and the owner came over to see if it was ok. He showed such care... such a genuinely sweet person!

I later ordered the tuna melt panini which was ok, but not quite as flavour dynamic as I would like. For $4, who's to complain though? Cheap and met the need at the time.

Since we all know there's no calories when consuming pretty things, I'm thrilled that my mocha came so ornately decorated. Best diet plan ever! ; )

I want to like this place I really do. But Coo Coo is so-so.

I'm only reviewing their coffee, not Americanos. Not mochas or Soy breve cha-cha frappa lattes & other fancy foppish nonsense.

They only brew one type of bean and it's used primarily for espresso. So this place doesn't actually serve coffee but rather brewed espresso beans. I suspect this may be because of the results of consumer research done by a certain big coffee chain. They found that the number one thing people want from their coffee shop is consistency. Not variety but homogenization.

Thhpppt. That's not how I roll. If it's cold out I might want a sweeter coffee. Something with caramel, toffee or chocolate notes like a Guatemalan or Mexican bean. In the summer I often prefer fruitier African or East Asian beans.

They get their bean(s) from 49th Parallel Roasters which is sometimes good but not as good as Intelligentsia in my opinion.

Better than any of the big chains could ever hope to be. Fresh locally roasted beans. And the owner knows and loves coffee but the lack of variety and emphasis on espresso drinks make this place less than stellar for us coffee drinkers.

I will try an espresso or cappuccino next time. Hopefully that will be able to justify giving them at least one more star.

I have been going to this coffee shop for years, sitting on the patio with a coffee during the summer or sitting inside in one of their cozy tables.  I've been enjoying their super duper coffee, even had one now, but never realized the name, until today when I looked at the sign.

This is the coffee shop with the great coffee everyone has been mentioned about.  Yes, it is worth the wait for the coffee they brew !!

Pooching around Yaletown in need of a coffee, I could decide between Starbucks or Blenz or Starbucks or Blenz. Oh decisions, decisions.

How fortunate then that I happened upon Coo Coo, such a favourite among Van Yelpers. I like my coffee shops to have a little more flavour in their decor but this is a very cute place. I tried a medium blend coffee and slice of chocolate marble cake. The coffee was fantastic and as other Yelpers commented, they really seem to care about what they make. When I complimented them on it, them seemed really pleased. I love coffee owners with passion about what they produce.

I'm coming back to try the sandwiches everyone is talking about.

So in the last couple weeks I frequented my typical neighbourhood hang, Coo Coo Coffee again.

While the service and hot chocolate was always great as usual I'm also happy to report that it seems like the quality of their pastries has improved. They are really fresh and nice now, maybe the owner had a word with the bakery... whatever it was, it helped significantly.

Unfortunately the weather does not really allow to make use of the nice little patio right now but the small location has a special charm as well.

    Stay coo coo ! ;-)

    Cheers

I actually plan my whole day around stopping here for an espresso con panna. My entire cognitive map of Vancouver is skewed towards Davie and Richards.

Their chocolate whipped cream is next level. i don't know how they do it, but it's always perfect. It's almost like a mousse.

The staff are really friendly and efficient and always remember what i order.

Let me be honest...I hate coffee. I really do and after Starbucks came into my life, I equate coffee with hot swamp water: bitter, putrid...basically a hot mess in a cup.

But Coo Coo became that pool boy in my relationship starved coffee life: gentle, caring and so...invigorating. It was breakfast time and why lie, I was hung over. I needed food and any food would do. It was early in the morning and everything was closed. I walked around, desperate for breakfast.  Coo Coo's was open and our love affair began.

I had their breakfast sandwich with ham, cloud soft egg flavored with thyme on crisp focaccia with a bastard orange juice. The owner of the establishment then asked if I would like coffee...and since this place had so many stars on yelp, I was like fine; it's gonna be nasty anyway.

I got a decaf, which is notoriously nasty and to my surprise, I was converted. He told me how he roasts the beans, where he buys them from and how it won't serve anything but the best. I was impressed and my mocha cappuccino made me ready for the day. I salute you, Coo Coo and I shall certainly return for your java.

And my fellow tea drinkers out there: get the pear green tea. It's a party in your mouth like no other.

My favourite coffee shop in town. Period. It lifts my spirits when I didn't even know it needed lifting.
I've hunted high and low for a more flavourful americano, and have not found it. Trust me, I've tried. These smiling ladies and gents make the most caring and richest espresso shots in the city, and I've often found myself going out of my way to make a stop here. The little patio is great for a sunny day and I love the eclectic selection of jazz and pop.

Decided to go for a wander around Vancouver and back through the old neighbourhood (Davie/Yaletown).  Blenz and Starbucks (the Crips and the Bloods of the Vancouver coffee fight) are now set up on seemingly every corner selling the black crack, and looks like JJ Bean are now trying to hone in on their territory as well.  If I had to choose between the 3, JJ Bean is the one, but in this area the quiet Coo Coo Coffee has luckily set up shop.

It used to be some sort of Illy coffee shop, but has changed and seemingly for the better.  So far the best latte I've had in Vancouver (yes better than Artigiano's).  Decent service, and some fine grinds to back it up.  Don't waste time on the gangfight in the neighborhood, Coo Coo brings the goods.

This is one of the best soy lattes I have ever had.  In fact, it's so good that I felt compelled to share my thoughts with you right now as I sip.  It's creamy and coffee-y and not too much of that sometimes abrasive soy taste that you might get if you chose the competitor up the street.

Plus, the space and the staff are delightful!  Perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up!

I am very picky about my coffee, and the espresso drinks they serve here are hands down the best in the city.  The beans they use taste amazing. Not bitter or bland. As a bonus the service is impeccable.  If you like Starbucks and Artigiano, you won't like it at Coo Coo.

I just wanted to add that I have lived in Italy on and off for some years. I know a good espresso when I see/taste one. That being said I've also had crappy espresso in Italy.  What Coo Coo delivers is an amazing cup of luxury. It has all the qualities a good espresso should have. The  thick crema, colour, slight mocha taste.  mmmmm how could anyone doubt?

Nice little coffee shop that reminded me of my fave back in German, complete with the light jazz on in the background :) I ordered a small latte, which was very creamy and delicious! It took a little while being made, but the lady apologized and all was well, plus it was worth it! Fantastic name for a coffee shop too, not one I'll forget!

I may be coo coo for coco puffs, but I'm just meh for Coo Coo Coffee.

To give some context to my review, let me say first of all that last fall I went to Italy, the land of amazing caffeinated beverages, and since then, I've been on the hunt for an espresso beverage that comes close to matching the flavour and quality of Italian espresso.  I'm not naive enough to think that I'm ever going to find coffee that meets or beats Italian coffee, but I sincerely hope I can find a shop that will make a passable effort.

With that in mind, my overall impression of Coo Coo Coffee was that even though it's a little cramped for my liking, it is still a quaint little coffee shop, nice decor, and friendly staff.  I liked their environmentally friendly efforts (such as bio-degradable straws made of corn), and community feel.  They've got a nice patio and I could be tempted to set myself up there for an afternoon of chatting or people watching.

However, the first star was lost because of their lack of promptness in preparing my beverage.  It seemed to take 2-3 times longer to prepare my cappuccino than anywhere else I've ever been.  Since it was taking so long, I was starting to anticipate an amazing drink, yet I was somewhat disappointed when I received my beverage.

On the positive side, the milk was steamed to perfection--it was so light and smooth and tasty that I could have just drunk a cup of foam.

On the negative side, and this cost them another star, the espresso itself had what I've come to find as the typical flavour found in North America -- something somewhat bitter and sour -- a flavour that I am not fond of, that no amount of sugar will conceal, and that is definitely not Italian.

In short, Coo Coo's espresso is no better than Starbucks', so unfortunately my hunt for a good espresso beverage continues.

I will, however, come back to try out a brew coffee, because it looks like they've got a different process for doing that...

This may just be the best coffee shop in Vancouver! Mike serves up a deeply rich, aromatic, naturally foamy Americano that seems to have hints of cocoa in it's coffee beans. This came on a recommendation from fellow Yelper Ramon V. He is right on! My coffee snob alter-ego thanks you.

this place isn't much of a secret but i somehow never have to wait very long.  as others have said, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and their coffee and food are awesome and cheap.

whatever it is they do, they really nail the perfect ratio of milk to coffee and the perfect temperature in their lattes.  i was a bit surprised to find they missed the mark hard with their iced ones, but the hot lattes and everything else are good enough i can pretty comfortably write this off.

check out the breakfast sandwiches too - they're not huge, but they are delicious and cheap.

I've lived in Europe for over 2 years, and coming back to Vancouver coffee was extremely disheartening for me... until a friend of mind recommended Coo Coo Coffee :) This place has, as far as I've experienced, the best espresso-based coffees in town. There isn't much place to sit, but it's nicely designed and cozy without being pretentious - an achievement in itself for Yaletown. All the staff are friendly and they have some simple but flavourful paninis at lunch too. A nice stop amid the bland and mediocre coffee-houses in Vancouver
