Steveston, Vancouver, BC
Had low expectations when we went here for a Sunday lunchtime dimsum but were pleasantly surprise after we left. Food was not bad! (Last time we ate at this location was over 10 years ago, can't even remember if it was the same name or some other incarnation.) Parking was horrible but expectedly so. After one go around the large lot, I ended up parking on the street south of the strip mall where this place is located. Place is big but was packed (always a good sign), with waiting lines out onto the sidewalk. Service was efficient with food carts passing by not too seldom-ly. Teapots never ran low and were attentively refilled with hot water. Chicken feet, seafood chow mein, ham suy ko, shrimp in rice rolls, taro balls, steamed buns, baked buns... everything tasted 'right' and nothing unsatisfactory. Atmosphere was your typical dimsum/Chinese place - noisy but tolerable. Lots of non-Chinese patrons and with little kids too. LIKE!

Came here for dimsum, with expectations way to high! Since its rated a 4 star.
My 2 stars are given mainly because the food is meh. very meh. nothing more than meh. maybe even a little less than meh. I"m so sad that its meh.
I think it is very possible that a few have been kind enough to give stars because the place has traditional carts that you can see your food. Another star for large seating areas, a star for little or no wait time, and another for ample parking. It was definitely not for the food. What the big hipshibang.. if you can see the food.. and its not good? :(
Everything.. EVERYTHING was mediocre. I would think the only thing worth eating was the Siumai. Everything else was less flavorful than the average dimsum place.
Its a good thing that this place has the other things going for it, if not.. they've got no legs to stand on.
Sorry.. i know i might sound cruel. But Continental Seafood needs to step up its game. Because their dimsum is seriously lacking. boo. I seriously hope their dinner is better - not that that i'm going to go :/ -

Wanna get your "Dim Sum" on but don't know where to go?? Look no further! CSR's got your back!!
With tons of selections such as the typical chicken feet, steamed dumplings, sui mai, spare ribs in black bean sauce, (you hungry yet?) deep fried squid, eggplant tofu, rice noodles, tripe, seseme balls, egg tarts, Its hard not to over do it.
What i love about dim sum is that its quick, cheap and extremely satisfying.
The staff are nice and if you come there enough times, they will remember your usual order and have it for you right away! :).... well for me that is... Another cool thing about this huge restaurant is that night it becomes a night club for your booty shaking pleasure! -

We have been coming here fir dim sum for years. The service is really friendly and we're always acknowledged and welcomed. The variety at dim sum is good, but the quality is always excellent.
Recently, we've been trying takeout dinner from Continental and, honestly, it is the best we've ever had in Richmond. It's hot, super fresh, and always with little extras like crisp snow peas in wonton soup and exceptionally fresh seafood.
It is on the pricey side comparatively, but worth it. Parking is usually a nightmare as it is around any decent restaurant in Richmond. I'd appreciate an updated takeout menu as theirs is four years old; the prices irrelevant. -

Came by during a week day for dinner w family. It has a big open dinning room.
I observed that they had a separated entrance for take-out of BBQ items.
We did order a combo appertizer plate of 3 kinds which included BBQ pork, duck and chicken. Taste preet good.
We also had couple hot pots which were fish with sea cucumber, Chinese mushrooms, also delicious.
The service was very good since they were not busy at all.
The manager was veryfriendly and gave good advice when ordering and gave us a 10% discount off the menu so that we could come again to patronize them.
We left at just about past 9 pm when they started having live music and dancing. Next time we should spare more time to stay and enjoy the
live band playing different kind of songs....... -

Have been here many times...
During lunch parking is annoying. Typical for Richmond, the lot is too small for the businesses in the center so they limit parking to to a particular business, or to 15, 30, & 60 minutes!
Today for dim sum. Everything was good, but not outstanding or unusual. They will prepare items to order if you ask. Service was attentive & friendly.
4 times a week they have a live band, dancing, & sing alongs. $25 for dinner & dance, $20 for just dance. We have done the dinner dance in the past & had fun. -

Har Gow.. Sui Mai. Dan Tat. And a plethora of other dishes, served steaming or sizzling straight off a cart. How this space in a strip mall manages to fill up isn't a shocker but it's definitely impressive. This is my default dim sum spot and has been for years. I've brought dim sum virgins and veterans and have witnessed the mmmms and yummms fall from their dumpling filled lips.
As for me -- it's the cart service and variety of dishes that draws me close and holds me tight. The seafood tastes fresh, the rice noodles are just as good hot with soy as they are cold the next day and they have deep fried taro root dumplings, mini dan tats (egg tarts) and this crazy bean curd dish that blows my mind. Plus you don't need to know English or Chinese to order - just point and nod! But it does help to go with a group (more selection) and with someone who is fluent in Chinese. (Thanks mom!)
I've been to a couple of weddings and have been told that they even host some live music and dancing in the evenings that bring out the amateur professionals who carry their ballroom dancing shoes in from the street rather than wearing them. That's serious!Listed in: A Halfer's Guide to Asian…, Vancouver Dim Sum Dining

I came to Continental for my family's Chinese New Year dinner so we ordered a set menu.
Their cold appetizer plate was very sub-par to other restaurants I have been to. This was the first time I couldn't finish my spicy jellyfish because the seasoning tasted off and the pieces were too thick and rubbery.
I enjoyed the ying yang sticky rice, which had white rice and black rice, but the black rice on it's own had too many beans; you need to mix the two for it to taste good.
The lobster steamed with garlic sauce was pretty decent, and the steamed fish with soy sauce was alright as well. However, the servers didn't open the fish when they served it as they usually do.
The service was pretty good, but several times, we found our "clean" dishes after a plate change weren't exactly clean, and we had to get new ones.
After 9 pm on Wednesdays, the restaurant turns into a nightclub, with a live band and ballroom dancing, complete with disco ball!
All in all, the food is decent, but nothing special. The restaurant is good for large groups because it's a really large restaurant, however, parking is a problem because there are limited spots with no time limit, since the restaurant is located in a strip mall. -

4 Dim Sum virgins from the states headed up to Richmond for a delicious Dim Sum lunch on Sunday. We loved the carts, we got a table right away, we ate like little piggies and it was $80 for 4 people, which isn't bad. I particularly loved the BBQ pork sweet buns, and the little clear shrimp dumplings. Also good green beans and sesame balls. I will for sure be going back up there for lunch next time we head up to Vancouver. Fast service, though not every server speaks excellent English, but that is easily overcome. I highly recommend it to Dim Sum first timers.

I was missing the old school dim sum carts and heard this is one of the few places that still uses them, so we stopped in for dim sum. The location is away from the No. 3 Road hub so parking isn't a problem.
Wow, this place takes me back! It reminds me of the dim sum places I would go to with my family growing up. Cantonese style cuisine. Service is excellent for a Chinese restaurant and the servers speak English quite well, which is definitely a plus.
Because of the carts, you do need to be patient... when the food comes around, it's decent quality - about 3.5 stars overall. Good mix of things on the cart and they can special order things for you if you haven't seen it coming around for awhile.
Prices were a bit steeper than I expected given the out-of-the way location (most are $3.50 to $4.50 an item). Overall food quality is 3.5 stars but the service and useable bathrooms bumps it up for a 4 for me. -

Dim Sum again. This time again, with Parental Units, One Grandparental unit and a Snibling.
The beef ribs had a couple of mentions. Parental unit #1 quoted it was tough. but for me, all the pieces that I had were not. Chewy yes, but not tough.
We tried something new. It looked like Siu mai, but it wasn't. It was the beef ball stuff, but in a Siu mai wrapper. Interesting.
Again, Parental unit thought it was doughy, like a meaty wet bagel with peas in it. I thought the texture was somewhat soft in comparison to a regular Siu Mai, but if you compared it to a Beef ball, Then it was just right. Only smaller, and instead of 3 bigger beef balls, you get 4 little ones.
Hmmm... what else did we have that was different this time around....? Oh yes. it was the..BEEEEEEPPPP...
"We interupt this transmission with an emergency broadcast signal" BEEEEEEEPPP!!!
Heck, Dim Sum on a cart, Still can't beat that, unless you're tucked away in a corner near the bathroom and nobody comes around to get you fresh food on a cart.
We never got around to the Har Gow. No worries, we were stuffed to the gills regardless, and I had alot of green veggies and a tid bit of meat. So for me, I was happy as a dumpling.

I think that newspaper reviews would describe the Continental Seafood Restaurant as unassuming. Yeah, I wouldn't have been assuming that the small, strip mall shopping center housed a ginormous Dim Sum restaurant.
The Dim Sum was good with lots of choices. There were the old standbys of sesame buns and bbq pork buns and then some things that I still have no idea what it was that I ate. I think that's what I really like about dim sum, there is a lot of "I don't know what that is, I'll try it!"
Dim sum is often hit or miss, when you are not Chinese. This one was a hit. Warning: it is a little south of the touristy parts of Vancouver. -
Review from Vincci L.
Dim sum the way it should be!! This place is one of the few places left in Richmond to have ladies pushing around dim sum carts, coming up to your table, and presenting to you a myriad of dim sum choices. You will have around 10 seconds to decide what you want, and then they proceed to the next table. Be decisive! You can also order what you don't see in the carts. Before you know it, your table will be filled with various dim sum goodies.
This is a large restaurant, with a big space in the middle. It's perfect for dim sum, because dim sum is meant to be noisy, and a family and friends event. It's also great for large groups, as they have many large tables (8+ people.)
Selection of dim sum is standard-the shrimp dumplings (har gow), pork dumplings (siu mai), various kinds of congee, rice rolls, BBQ pork buns, all sorts of deep fried foods (try the deep fried shrimp wontons, served with mayo!), and desserts. They even have my favourite sweet milky yolk bun-a mixutre of egg yolk, sweetened, all steamed inside a slightly sweet bun. Be careful when you bite into it though, hot filling can sometimes ooze out and burn the tongue.
Pick your choice of tea, and the tea is charged per head. I always get the jasmine tea because I like it's fragrant flavour. Service is relatively good here, at least for a Chinese restaurant. Tea is constantly refilled, and plates are changed periodically.
Always a great place for a dum sum fix, and a great experience everytime!Listed in: Lunching in Richmond, Dim Sum Fun!

Richmond, BC
I've been coming here forever it seems-at least 20 years. I've tried several other dim sum restaurants in the lower mainland, and while there are other very good ones out there, sometimes the prices seem out of proportion to the serving. So the Continental is my old standby when it comes to dim sum.
I like that most of the cart servers can converse in English, which is rare in many dim sum restaurants. This means that they don't avoid tables where non-Chinese speakers are sitting and you get to try all the dishes you like and avoid those that you don't.
The food is tasty, the portions ample and the prices are reasonable. I've ordered various noodle dishes off the menu a few times and the large servings are always fresh and delicious. Constantly filled water glasses and teapots are always welcome.
The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is that if you go later, the regularity of the service and quality/heat/freshness of the dishes seems to lessen, probably because they are so busy.
The best time to go, particularly on Sunday is between 10:30-11:30 as the lineups start after that. Considering the huge area of the restaurant, the lineups speak volumes about its popularity. -

Unexpectedly we can still see this old traditional type of Dim Sum restaurant, which all kinds of Dim Sum are placed in a cart/dolly controlled by Dim Sun servers, "driving" thru the aisles among the tables in the restaurant, yelling (softly) the names of the Dim Sum, then dispense it on the table up to customers request. This old fashion can rarely be seen here in Vancouver nowadays.
There is a wide range of Dim Sum varieties, both food quality and taste are good, price is about and a little bit above average (not on the cheap side). All servers are in very polite manner, which is definitely a bonus among most Chinese restaurants. :b -

Totally agree that with all the comments that this is "dim sum the way it should be." Carts are totally the way to go. The food was fresh and warm, and the BBQ Pork Buns were exquisite. The meal was totally satisfying. The service, however, was lacking. The place was not especially busy, but we had to wave down the carts on more than one occasion. They would skip our table or turn around before they got to us. We had an empty table several times! Otherwise a great dim sum experience. Next time we'll ask for a high-traffic table.

We found this restaurant from the Chinese newspaper. Never been to this part of Richmond before. There is nothing spectacular about this restaurant, but if you looking for good solid Chinese food, this is the place. Not disappointing, but not great, great.

This place was fantastic! The food was very fresh, the Congee was excellent, and everything was displayed via push carts. We arrived at approx 12:45PM and although it was crowded, we got seated right away. Food was so good too. For everything we ordered, it was only approx $30 for everything. I will defiantly go back again soon.

Vacationed in Vancouver first week of September and had no idea where to go for Chinese food! Didn't really want to pick a place out of the tourist brochure, but didn't really have any other choice. Glad we gave Continental Seafood a try! I'm Chinese-American and everyone says the best dim sum in North America is in Vancouver. Was quite pleased with the quality of dim sum, better and fresher than NYC Chinatown dim sum! We came here one day for dim sum, and another night to try the famous Dungeness crab. The crab to me was ok but the sauce and the noodles that they add to it was SO good. We only tried one other place for Chinese seafood dinner (Sea Harbor) and that was okay to me. Continental seems really good, it is in a strip mall and further away from the other Chinese places in Richmond (where the majority of Chinese restaurants tend to be, don't bother with their crappy, run-down Chinatown!). Would definitely recommend to others visiting or who live in the area!
Oh and if you go to dinner here, they actually have a karaoke night! Entertaining. Quite a few older Chinese people sing and dance while you have your dinner. -

my uncle introduced to me to this place and ever since, i've been hooked on their dim sum. compared to other dim sum places around the area, the prices are a lot cheaper and you still get great quality dim sum. it is the only place i take my family and friends whenever we want dim sum in vancouver. the service is ok, it's a chinese place....parking is plenty for it is located in a strip mall and i never had to wait in line, maybe because i'm always the first one there when it opens. i've never been there for dinner, i imagine it's probably good. the dining room is huge, complete with a huge stage and dance floor, the interior is bright and pretty fancy looking, perfect for chinese weddings
