10am is the earliest I have ever attended a dim sum.  If anyone who has ever gone and eaten dim sum during prime time (11:00-1:30), you know how chaotic it usually is.  It is hard to grade the food when the kitchen is doing everything they can to churn out enough hot and ready food for everyone sitting and to those who are waiting.  I guess people have gotten used to the atmosphere of a busy restaurant though I still want to make sure the food is still good.

Having dim sum before the storm immediately adds one extra star to any dim sum place because the food comes out faster and I think tastier.  I have eaten here during the busiest hours and I can say that the waiters are fighting a losing battle because they can never keep up with the demand.  Time for the managers to add a few more staff or two.

Finally came back for dim sum - joined the family for weekly dim sum lunch or as I like to call it, 'Grandparents Interrogate/Pressure Johnson About Giving Them A Great-Grandkid Funtime'.  But I will not buckle and I will not falter.  I'm more stubborn than Picard in a Cardassian interrogation room with... FOUR... LIGHTS!  ... and if  you got that reference, you're an uber-dork... and we need to hang out and debate TNG vs. DS9.

Anyways - the food was perfectly alright and nothing much to report other than the beef rice rolls (a.k.a. 'cheong fun' -- non-Cantonese speakers, be careful with this one - reverse the order and you're calling someone a moron).  Rather than having the beef filling wrapped inside the rice noodle, the beef is pressed/steamed to bond it to strips of rice noodle.  I guess you can call this a 'deconstructed' beef rice roll if you want to be a douche about it.  Anyways - interesting method - but I didn't think it added or subtracted anything from a solid cheong fun that had a good parsley finish on the beef.  However, my aunties and uncles really liked it as it was really "whaat" (no - it's not an urban way to register surprise -- it means slippery/smooth).  So - we have a "whaat" and "haung" (good aroma) 'cheong fun' -- both core criterias met and we have a good dim sum rice roll.

And I'm serious about the hang out offer for TNG fans - especially if you're a female (Cantonese is an asset) and are of birthing age.  'Come Along', girl -- if things goes well, I'll put a baby inside you.  So we can quell the Chinese parent baby-nagging until our child is old enough to play the piano.

... and my aunties wonder their 'successful', 'handsome', online food reviewing, Star Trek-referencing, shitty-pickup-line-spewing and shitty-pun-cracking nephew is unmarried...

I came here during the week under different circumstances (Grandfather's funeral meal after the service), and because of the odd times of eating, our meal was booked for 4PM. It was a full on feast of foods, starting with your cold plate of meats, and plate after plate of food I ate was each prepared quite well. My experience with the restaurant is from dim sum, and another dinner a year or two back where I found the taste bland. I come back years later and I do not find it bland, yet more pure, and no dizzying effects from any "Magically Sprinkled Goodness" (MSG).

A recap of my meal, which was pletiful and beyond filling. First dish was the typical Chinese cold cut dish, wish some jelly squid on one side, two types of pork strips on the other end of the plate, and some freshly hot honey garlic spareribs. I have noticed from going to weddings that this now is the normal layout, and each of the items on the plate carried not much flavor, and yet none of them, especially the honey garlic spareribs were overpowering where if you went back to any other item on the plate, took away from the experience. We had two big saucy crabs at our table, deep fried quickly first, then sauce poured right over the thing, not to drench it, and oddly enough I liked it. The chicken at the table was juicy throughout, you can tell this thing was free range chicken that was roasted, and they didn't overkill it, as the thing was perfectly brown right to the tips of this bird, than lightly showered with those colorful shrimp chips for the kids that crunch down like styrofoam in your mouth! The Shark's fin soup was not overly thick with corn starch, and it went down smooth to the point I was looking for another bowl of it (maybe it is knowing that moving along in the future I won't be getting it as the ban is coming?) The greens were plentiful at the table, not overly shiny from the reflection of the lights is a good sign it wasn't drenched in oil, but I guess there is a downside that it won't slide down your throat with ease? With the amount of servers working at this hour, where usually the restaurant is closed during the two times of lunch to dinner, I was impressed how these two servers (controlling 9 full tables) was able to keep up with the water for the tea, the changing of the plates, and sometimes the seperation of dishes to individuals.

I do not remember all the dishes, so you are not getting a list and an individual grade for each, but I will say that the meal was solid. Would I come back to this place, certainly, I just didn't realize I never wrote a review. The name always gets me "Come Along" until someone tells me the Chinese name, then I know where the heck this place is. There is minimal parking in the back, but there are spots on Kingsway, usually more on the opposite side of the road where you have to play 'Frogger' and dodge cars to get back onto the side of the road where the restaurant is!

I've gone there for dinner and for dim sum.  It's one of the more decent places along the Kingsway corridor for Chinese food: the decor is clean and service is prompt regardless of how busy they get.  Parking is limited to a few spots in the rear and street parking, so that's the biggest downside.
Their dim sum is not pushed around on carts but ordered from a menu.  Some people prefer this way because the food will be cooked to order, but on the other hand, you can't actually see what you've picked from the menu until it arrives to your table.

My family used to frequent the Grand Honour sister restaurants at the intersection of 41st and Granville (the main seafood restaurant and the hot pot spot across the street). Then we stopped when the personnel changed. I can't believe it took us four years to figure out that the chef opened his own place on Kingsway, along with some of the other managers/servers. It was like a happy reunion to taste some of our favorite dishes again.

As others have commented, the service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The few times I've been for dinner, the place was not full.

The YANGCHOW FRIED RICE is a revelation here. Somebody tell me what they do to make the beaten egg the way it is. Order it and you'll see what I mean. It's like fine silky shreds. I can't figure it out. Delicious.

SWEET AND SOUR PORK was less impressive. The meat was too fatty, the batter not light enough.

ROASTED SQUAB was moist and juicy on the night we had it.

PEA SHOOTS were tender and perfectly cooked, topped with large slices of braised mushrooms.

WINTERMELON SOUP was pretty good, though it could have used a little more Chinese ham to deepen the flavor.

One dish that is one of my favorites is some kind of CRISPY TOFU SKIN WITH BRAISED LETTUCE. I don't know its actual name, so just describe it to the waiter. Perfect balance of textures and flavor. The tofu soaks up the thickened stock so that it softens up while retaining the perfect amount of bite.

Dim sum is fairly priced and generously portioned.

    * Old and new - poorly combined *

    I love dim  sum.

I think back to the "good old days" when dim sum meant waiting with anticipation for the cart ladies to push the latest offerings past you and display their hidden treasures.  The only problem with the cart system was that frequently items would be either over-steamed, already getting cold, or just have been held too long.

So the newer check box system which seems to be almost everywhere nowadays generally provides fresher product that is at the right temperature and done to the right level.  It does sacrifice the nostalgic joy of seeing what each cart would reveal.

I'm normally ok with giving up on the nostalgia to get a better meal.  But at this spot I gave up on the nostalgia but still got items that suffered from the old symptoms of a cart having been pushed around too long - they took the worst of each system and combined it with slightly sloppy presentation - all in all not a good combination!

    Details of the meal:

    - Shrimp and scallop dumplings.  The seafood was very fresh.  But unfortunately this had been extremely over-steamed so that the scallops were rubbery.  It was a shame, as it could have been wonderful.  The presentation was kind of sloppy on this one too, with the small fish eggs running down and falling off the top of the scallops.  Disappointing overall.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Shrimp and scallop rice roll.  Once again the seafood was fresh.  But this one also had been over-steamed to the point that the roll was falling apart and couldn't be lifted out of the awkwardly stacked presentation.  Trying to lift any piece of it lifted the whole clump of three rolls as they had melded together.  Once separating them you just had mush.  Sad.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Hargow.  These were the best dish of the meal.  There was a generous amount of very fresh shrimp in a nice delicate wrapper.  They were steamed to the proper level (thank you!) and overall were very pleasant.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Sticky fried rice with Chinese sausage. There was no wok hei, and instead the dish was just oily and slightly mushy. Not a skillful job unfortunately. The sliced egg garnish was a nice touch.  But the lack of wok hei and the oiliness just didn't add up to a good dish.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    - Stir-fried green beans with pork.  This was the worst dish by far.  The beans were overcooked, overly salty, and there was no hint of wok hei. This is normally one of my favourite dishes, when made correctly.  But here was an utter fail.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

Overall considering the number of better dim sum options available not too far away, this place just doesn't warrant a repeat visit.  I won't be going back.

We came back here for dinner coz it closer to my parents-in-law house.  We found the food quality was poorer than before.

Squab - it looked like over cooked and dark.
Sweet and sour pork - it was good and sweet but no sour.
Scallop, eggplant and tofu pot - very hot and tasty but oily.
Prawn and fish pok with veggie - ok but the veggie quite chewie.

Great Chinese restaurant near my house. The restaurant is nice and clean, the service was good and attentive, and the food was fairly good and not that expensive and the serving sizes are large, great for a big group of people. We went there for a couple birthday's and on a game night which the CANUCKS won!!!! Woooowhoooooo!

Not your typical game night venue, but it worked. I only wished they turned off the Asian music in the background and turned on the volume of the television, but then it would cease to become a respectable Chinese restaurant I guess......

Good food, great value. What more could u ask for?

They have a variety of food for dinner at $13.80 each.  Dim sum is pretty good.

Parking is a problem as their lots is tiny but there are parking on the streets and the side streets.  Watch where you park on the side streets however, some of them are residents only.

I finally "Come Along " to this restaurant for dim sum.

Actually I accidentally came here thinking that it was this other restaurant but it has changed vastly, and I am glad I tried it as it is a really good dim sum place. The decor is more upscale, and the service was really good this day. Pricey yes it can be especially if you eat like me. Average price $4/ per items. Get there before 11AM and you get a 20% discount I found out later.

I liked everything we ordered here. Nine items is a lot here for two people as the dim sum is giant size. The Jasmine tea we ordered was really good. The jumbo Prawn Har gau was delicious, and so was the sui mai. Beef balls were good too. The first time I saw and tasted Shark Fin dumpling served in a soup and it was exquisite, tasty, yet delicate. Outstanding.
The laubak goa / Radish Cake with XO sauce was Bamb! tasty, and a huge portion too. It seem to be a very popular dish here and I can say that nobody in Vancouver does it better. The other item that was awesome was their congee cooked and served in a clay/stone pot. The other items were tasty too. All patrons were Chinese here but the waiter we had, spoke good English. I can't wait to try their other unique items. It seems I will make this my regular dim sum place.

have had regular dinner meals plus dim sum.  Both were really good.  Recommend the fried calamari (at chinese restaurants), best I've had in years.  A little pricier than most east side chinese restaurants, but well worth it.  Didn't really like the congie, too much ginger.  But all the standards were excellent.
