Fantastic store! If I was more creative and art savvy, this would easily be one of my favourite stores in town! Colours Art and Framing is an artist's dream! Upon entrance, you will see shelf after shelf of paints, canvases and any type of tool and accessories one may need to create art. Shelves are densely stocked with paints, brushes, crayons, pencils, graphite, charcoal, calligraphy tools and paper. My husband, who loves to draw, was ecstatic as he saw all the products. I noticed that while some products are really inexpensive, others come with hefty price tags. Many pencils, crayon and graphite are made in Germany, which ought to explain the high price.
At the back of the store, there are numerous shelves with canvases in many different sizes. Logically, the bigger the canvas, the more is costs. You can purchase premade canvas or custom order one which will be stretched right here in the store.
For art dummies such as myself, there are books and DVDs on art techniques.
Although I didn't purchase anything this time, I will come back to shop here for my husband. Actually, I was so impressed with this store's selection that I think I will ask my husband to teach me how to draw, or will teach myself with the help of one of the books sold right here at Colours Art and Framing. -

When I need art supplies or framing, I head to Colours first. The service is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the selection is incredible. This is a large store filled with paints, brushes, canvasses, pens, pencils, sketchbooks, paper, and other art and craft supplies. There is always some sort of sale going on, and in general I find the prices to be lower than other art stores. I can always find canvasses in just about any size here. I also come here for some basic framing and mounting needs, like having my photos dry-mounted for exhibits. The turnaround time is usually fast and the prices, again, are lower than in other places. Colours caters to students, with a lot of supplies that most University-level art students should need and discounts if you show your student ID. Just stepping into this store will get your creative juices flowing.

I had a beautiful watercolour framed here and was aghast at the lack of artistically inclined personnel that work at this custom framing shop: my point of going to this store was to get expertise on colour and frames which would enhance my watercolour the best. I should have just walked out because I had that 'gut feeling' that something was not right when I asked the girl who served me what her opinion was for the best colour matting and frame to use for my watercolour. She was completely dense and clueless when it came to offering advice for what colours and textures would be best for my picture. So, I had to rely on my own instinct about choosing colours and the frame. The cost of the frame and matte was really expensive, over $250 and I feel that I could have gone to Walmart and bought a frame and matte surrounder from them and done the job equally for 1/10th of the price of this custom frame job.
So, the moral of the story with this service: you better know your stuff when you walk in the door because you will not get expertise from the staff.
